Pros: Power! Almost no sanding. Cons: Not a 20 inch.
Summary: What does a planer do and what wont it do?
Education:
The primary purpose of a planer it to reduce thickness of stock. So if I have 1 inch stock and the plan calls for ¾ stock then the planer is the tool to do it for me. Also...

Pros: adequate with softwoods,
compact as far as space goes,
small projects only Cons: knife material too soft,
motor not strong enough
Summary: I bought the model T1300 for small cabinet shop use. After three years of use, I will have to say this is a hobby machine at beat, not a production model by any means. The first one I had at less than 40 board feet run, the rubber just peeled off the ...

Pros: Ease of setup, ease of knife changing, easy to read controls. Cons: knives are to this planer like bread is to a toaster
Summary: I purchased this planer based on the reviews I read all over the internet. It seemed to be a top rated small thickness planer. I was impressed with the thoughtfulness of the features and the overall look of the tool. I had a bunch of church pews given ...

Pros: Sturdy and stable. A top quality professional package. Cons: Not really portable if you need mobility.
Summary: Home Depot in Nova Scotia recently dropped their price from $599 Canadian to $499. I opened a Home Depot account, and for my first purchase, got a further 10% off, making the price $449 Canadian (approx $360 U.S, current exchange rate - note normal U.S. ...

Pros: Does a great job with all species of dried wood Cons: Very heavy for a portable and can't sharpen bladesand dust collector not durable
Summary: I read all the reviews and played with it in The Home Depot when you could do that sorta thing. I went to see the other brands in places like Woodcraft and Klingspore. And think I made a very good decision. I bought the Ridgid 13" planer to replace a ...

Pros: Sturdy, reliable, accurate Cons: Heavy, blades only found at Home Depot (when in stock)
Summary: Of all of the planers I researched this seemed to be the best value in the sub-$400 range. The Ridgid is well made and comes with a sturdy stand. This is a heavy unit but how often do you really need to move it? Several nice advantages are the extra...

Pros: Well built, great warranty, no snipe Cons: Dust collection OK (not great).
Summary: I purchased the Ridgid planer about two weeks ago from Home Depot. The planer is pretty much fully assembled; I spent more time putting together the included stand. After carefully reading the manual and setting up the infeed and outfeed tables, I planed...

Pros: Good dust collection, no snipe Cons: Can't think of any!
Summary: My wife picked this planer for me on her own, and she could not have done any better! The guys at Home Depot must have liked her, cuz she got the stand for free (or maybe everyone does!)
This planer comes with extra knives, for a total of...

Pros: Wonderful Tool Cons: The only thing I can think of is that its a heavy machine
Summary: I bought the ridgid planer after reading some reviews of it, as well as seeing it rated #1 by a woodworking magazine.
There was almost no assembly to this planer. Some of the best features are a powerful motor, snipe-reduction because of...

Pros: Well built, Easy to Use, Thoughtful features Cons: None so far
Summary: I reashearched surface planers for about a month or two and I had narrowed my choices down to the Ridgid TP1300, The Delta 22-560, The Craftsman 21713, and the DeWalt DW733. (The Makita was a bit out of my price range)After "Playing" with them over and...

Pros: To many to mention Cons: Mentioning any would be nit-picking
Summary: Update... After 5 months of use and hundreds of BF I have only one issue with the TP1300, chip removal. I have a big shop vac and cyclone lid for a trash can and the combo will not keep up. Pine is especially bad as the shavings tend to be longer and jam...

Pros: The features of this planer are appealing if the machinery itself were viable. Cons: I have had to return it twice. I have no confidence in this model.
Summary: I received two of these planers, each of which was defective. The return policy with HD online is cumbersome. In sum, I would not try this product again.

Pros: Clean cutting Cons: Won't feed properly and throws some chips out the front with the vac on.
Summary: I have been using my Ridgid planer for about 9 months and in July I could not get cedar to feed through the machine- I had to push and pull it through. I thought the wood might have been too oily and forgot about. Last week I sent some 5/8" red oak
