Pros: Well, it's the Roots; something HAS to be good Cons: Pretentious; Hard to listen to; and it's the first Roots album that I can't recommend
Summary: Expectations are a funny thing in music. It goes hand in hand with hype-nitis in many ways. If you're an artist who is consistently loved, consistently played, consistently praised and you drop something less than stellar, you get lambasted by those who ... read more

Pros: Fela Kuti lives! Cons: So does the N. word.
Summary: Two years ago, Americans elected the world’s most mild-mannered black man to be their president. While many regarded this as a pivotal moment in our history, ushering in the so-called post-racial era – a notion as mythical and wonderful ... read more

Pros: Lyricism and production, hip-hop at its rawest Cons: Lack of diversity, mediocre hooks, sounds more like a ?uestlove album
Summary: Rap I’ve always thought that one of the biggest differences between rap and other forms of music was the difficulty in finding an artist that consistently churned out great albums for 5-10 years. Looking through my collection now, I see ... read more

Pros: "The Show" is great, "Rising Down" and "Criminal" are OK. Cons: Production ideas don't sound completely fleshed out, bad second half.

Pros: How many artists out there are still relevant and revolutionary some 10 albums later? Cons: Well, let's just say it's not always a happy listen.
Summary: It is what it is, because of what it was, I did what I did 'cos it does what it does. Me and the Roots have had a colorful history, and by colorful, I obviously mean boring and completely uneventful. I dove headfirst into Phrenology, ... read more

Pros: It's The Roots doing what The Roots do best. Cons: Not quite their best work. Feels a little incomplete.
Summary: Though I wouldn't call this their best work, The Roots continue to show why they remain a great group. Though they've won Grammy's and made album after album of quality music with intelligent lyrics, Philly's finest are still underrated in a world where ... read more
