Pros: Boils water quickly, great for raman noodles, nice for melting chocolate too! Cons: Not kid friendly, potential of steam burns of you aren’t careful.
I am an iced tea junkie and there isn't a day that goes by that I am not making a pot or two of it. Most of the time I use my coffee maker or iced tea maker for the job but when I want a spot of hot tea before it cools off I grab my Rival Hot Pot ...
Pros: Fast, easy, stays hot, large capacity Cons: No indicator light, lid is flimsy, can boil out or boil dry
I'm a big tea drinker. We have a plethora of coffee makers, which I am slowly but surely reviewing. My husband is the big coffee drinker, though; for the most part I prefer tea. In addition, I heat water for soups and hot cereals for my kids on almost...
You are losing your first born like putting Moses in the cradle and sending him down the river. That is the overwhelming feeling when you send your first born into the wilderness. A.K.A. off to college. It is quite a scene. Everyone is crying and your...
Pros: quick, nice size Cons: short cord, no indicator light
We bought this Rival Hot Pot for the office. We often like to serve coffee and tea to visitors and our staff often makes instant noodles for lunch. Its great for instant coffee, tea and noodles. Before the Hot Pot we would brew a pot of coffee, pour it...
Pros: very cheap/light/fast Cons: keep an eye on it!
I bought one of these pots for the office last year. There were times I wanted tea instead of coffee and those little immersion things are clumsy to use.
I'd never used one of these before and was amazed at the speed of heating. It's much...
Pros: It travels. It boils VERY quickly. Cons: Only two settings. Warm and boil.
NOTE: After some SH instead of VH ratings and a comment containing a suggestion, I have updated this epinion. It now includes directions for use at the end.
Some relatives of mine bought me this hot pot as a gift for graduation from high...
Pros: This is good for snacks and light meals. Heats up water very quickly! Cons: A little difficult to wash. The lid IS flimsy.
I'm a college student and I find the Rival Hot Pot to be pretty useful. It's great for heating up canned soups and boiling water for "cup noodles", and, like everyone else has said, for coffee and tea.
Pros: Wonderful, cost-effective hot water! It IS faster than a microwave! Cons: Automatic shut-off would be a welcome improvement!
I love this little hot pot - they claim on the package that it heats water 60% faster than a microwave and I believe they're right. For once, I've purchased a product which actually does live up to it's claims! My 9-year old son can even use the pot...
Pros: convenient and easy to use Cons: no on/off button
Coming to Charlottesville, VA for college was not a two-hour drive from northern VA for me, as it was for most of the students here. Leaving from Bangkok and having to cross the Pacific Ocean and stopping in LA and Washington D.C. before I was able to...
Pros: None Cons: No auto switch off when the water is boiling
Ok it is fast and it is cheap. But still to expensive for the lacking safety.
1. You cannot switch it on/off separately. You can only switch in on/off with the plug. This is not very convenient and it may be even dangerous when you have wet fingers from refilling.
2. But the biggest disadvantage is the missing auto switch. This pot does NOT stop boiling once reached the max temperature. It does NOT switch off.
I don't want to know what could happen if you forget it and it boils dry. Somehow I feel that this is one of the ways house fires start.
We replaced this pot pretty fast with a cordless one that has an auto switch that switches the pot off once the temperature is reached.
No I would not recommend this pot.
Pros: Fast and easy Cons: No off switch. (melting?)
My roommate had one of these things and it looked pretty cool, so I bought one. ("stovetop" ramen is way better than the kind in cups) His is a black plastic color, and has a weird plastic smell when he uses it because the hotplate appears to be melting the plastic a bit (there is no smoke or anything). I have a white one and don't have this problem. I'm guessing his was just a defective one with the hotplate placed wrong.
This works well for cooking noodles, as well as heating water for hot beverages. Especially for only $10.
