I was doing my normal surfing for freebies and coupons when I came across a $20 off for first customers at Ourhouse.com. I quickly wrote down the code and headed to the website. Ourhouse.com is a hardware store that carries a little bit of everything....
Pros: Good idea and marketing. Cons: Dangerous sharp edges and metal shavings - just the thing it's supposed to stop.
Being a 3rd shifter and weekend insomniac, I often find myself flipping through the channels at night looking for something to watch. One such night I spotten an infomercial advertising "Safety Can" - a new hand-held can opener that opens cans on the...
Pros: knife sharpener in the back Cons: makes metal slivers, will not open all cans
After 10 years of using a hand can opener, I decided it was time to move on up in the world and put an electric can opener on my Christmas Wish List for 1998. I did some looking and found the Rival SafeTech Can Opener which was promptly put on my...
Pros: Safe edges (when it works) Cons: Doesn't open all cans, have to position cans perfectly, shaves sharp metal pieces off of some cans
After noticing that our old can opener wasn't working very well, we decided to get a new one. We chose this Rival SafeTech can opener mainly because of the tall height, as well as its main selling point, the safe edges. We quickly found out what a...
Pros: safety, knife sharpener Cons: difficult to use
After my manual can opener broke unexpectedly, I noticed that the electric openers didn't cost that much more. I purchased the Rival Safe Tech opener, with high expectations - especially because I have a young child in the home. I had seen it...
Pros: No more missing fingers Cons: Dosn't always open cans
If you’ve ever fished a sharp, saw-edged lid blindly from out of a murky can of beans, every moment fearing the bite and ultimate blood bath produced by the jagged edged lid, you’ll appreciate the “Edge” can opener. Using “SAFETech cutting technology,...
Pros: smooth edges for a little while Cons: can't always get the lid off the can
I am on my second Rival Safe Tech can opener and I am now looking for a different brand with the same idea. For the first 50 cans or so this works great. Stage two is that the can may be 'opened' but another tool is needed to really get the lid off the...
Why, oh why didn't I check Epinions first? Everything everyone else says here is true. I bought the Rival for the safety and the name. All I got was a bunch of mangled cans and lots of metal shavings. This has got to be the worst can opener I have...
Yes! It's true. I'm at the top of the chump list again. A manufacturer puts a worthless product in a pretty box and I go out and buy it. It's people like me who make the American dream possible -- for others!
Pros: Works Good At First Cons: Doesn't Work After A While
Well, I bought this can opener about a year ago when I moved into my new home. I purchased it at Wal-Mart at a very reasonable price. I thought that the price matched how good the product would be. I was wrong. At first, the appliance worked fine. I...
My old under the counter can opener broke and I purchased the Rival Safe Tech can opener thinking it would be safer, with no sharp edges. It just doesn't work!! When you try to open a can, even letting it go around several more times it just will not...
Pros: It was a really bright white which matched my other appliances ... Cons: See review, They allow enough space here to repeat the utter uselessness of this product.
I'll keep this short and simple. I bought this can opener years ago (before checking on epinions.com) thinking that I was buying into "new" technology. However, I now realize that the cave men probably had better can opening capabilities with a blunt ...
Honey, stop banging that can on the counter! by powermuffin ,Mar 08 '04
Pros: You have that avant guard feeling of being the first to buy new technology. Cons: Life hurts... this can opener hurts back.
Not only does this opener leave little metal shavings that will become trapped in the skin of your fingers, but lifting a lid sealed with industrial strength glue is an excercise in frustration.
You know how some people go through a terrible situation and say "we'll laugh about this someday." Well, I am still not laughing about that can of chocolate syrup whose lid would not come off, even after running it through this can opener and banging it on the counter like I was trying to kill the devil himself.
I have since found that using a bottle opener to pry the lid off works fairly well.
This can opener will open only the smaller to medium sized cans. If you occasionally buy the very large cans for making big batches of sauce or whatever... forget it.
