Pros: Large, hefty iron with two steam settings and 400 holes. Cons: Perhaps too large and heavy for some. Price of admission is high.
I've owned Rowenta home appliances for more than 25 years and am a big fan. Since virtually all my garments require pressing, I have felt the need to purchase the best iron available, whatever the cost. Rowenta has been leading the pack for so long I ...

Pros: Even heat, durability. Glides across fabric with little effort. Excellent steam output. No distilled water Cons: Weight, the iron can get heavy. So much steam you need to fill reservoir often.
I recently purchased the Rowenta DZ9080 Iron with Auto shut-off when my Black and Decker became too scratched to use. I have never been happier. I iron almost everything I wear. In fact my husband used to tease me that I even ironed his underwear ...

Pros: When it worked: great temperature range; strong steam; large body Cons: Lasts only six months...then splat!
I spent the crazy money for a, what I thought, was a top-of-the-line iron (DZ9080). The first one basically quit one day. The heating element would not even brown toast. That caused a rain shower on my clothes. I exchanged it for ...

Rowenta DZ9080 - Spews
by wise920 ,Mar 22 '08
Pros: Heavy, sturdy Cons: Spits out particles when steam starts.
Both my neighbor and I have the Rowenta DZ9080. Both of us have had problems with particles (maybe hard water?) spewing out onto clothing when steaming. Sometimes stains the clothing. The instructions clearly state to use TAP water, not distilled. Not sure what we are doing wrong, but I'm disappointed considering the cost of the iron. My cheap Black & Decker worked better than this!

Very disappointed.
by pattycake720 ,Aug 22 '09
Pros: Nonstick sole plate, number of steam holes. Cons: Leaks like a sieve from the heel rest.
I have owned many Rowenta irons and have given both my daughters Rowentas. In the past I have been very happy with the performance, and must say that the sole plate and steam holes on the DZ9080 are great . However, like many other reviewers, the DZ9080 is a big disappointment. In the upright position, water drains from the heel plate literally emptying the iron into the ironing board cover and pad over a short period of time. I will not replace this iron with another of its kind.

Very Disappointing
by scw521 ,May 13 '09
Pros: Good steam, when it works. Cons: Extremely inconsistent performance. Spits water and heats unevenly.
I have owned Rowenta products for many years. They used to be absolutely wonderful and reliable. However, within the past 5 years I have had nothing but problems. The DZ9080 is the second Advancer I have purchased, and has similar problems to the one it replaced barely six months ago. It heats inconsistently, is sometimes too hot and other times not hot enough. It spits and/or leaks water even though I empty the water tank after each use. Sometimes it spits out sediment along with the water (I use bottled spring water since our tap water is full of iron and minerals). I have contacted Customer Service to express my disappointment but they basically say "tough luck". The store from which I purchased the iron will not take it back, saying that my complaints are "obviously manufacturing issues." I shall not buy another Rowenta.

Watch out for newer ones!
by adampsc ,Jan 06 '08
Pros: Excellent when the work Cons: Poor quality control recently
I have had Rowenta irons for about 20 years and they are generally the best you can get. However, I bought a new Advancer and it would not auto shutoff. I exchanged it and the next had the same problem and also would not stop heating (it got extremely hot)! I tried a Rowenta Focus and it stopped auto-shutting after the third use and never vertically steamed. I have contact Rowenta and they are looking into it. But, be careful about the auto shut off - that can cause serious problems. It's too bad that the QC has gotten so bad.

Extremely Dissapointed -Angry
by vhald2 ,Aug 31 '09
Pros: When it did work it worked well. Cons: Will never buy another Rowenta, and will tell my experiences to the local quilt guilds.
I bought this iron on Jan. 20, 2009, within 4 months it stopped working, would not heat. Sent it in for repairs, 4 weeks later I got it back. Now leaking severely. Sent it back for additional repairs, deemed unfixable, 7 weeks later I finally got a replacement. Have used for 1 week, last night it overheated, now it won't heat at all. Paid a lot of money for a doorstop. At this point I just want my money back.
