Pros: slim design, on casters that lock if needed, paper bin window, Auto Start and Reverse Cons: noisy and heavy, price is a consideration
I've been using this Royal Shredder (Model # VF1012mx) for the past seven months. Two other people also use this machine, and it sees light to moderate use. Description This is a nice looking cross-cut shredder. It is a light gray ...

Pros: Price Cons: Customer service, and quality of product.
I purchased this Royal VF1012mx Crosscut Paper Shredder from Sams Club in November of 2005. February 2006 and the machine gears broke down. I brought it to one of Royals authorized service centers for repair. The repair shop ordered parts the next ...

It lasted about six months.
by audiomagnate ,Apr 04 '06
Pros: Powerful, and it eats CDs like popcorn. Cons: It died after only six months.
This is the first shredder I've owned. It started out very strong, and really impressed me with the way it could shred CDs. I use it mainly to shred credit card and mortgage solicitations, but I also use it as my home based business shredder. It has a relatively small bin, and the clear part of the front of the bin is invisible unless your lying on the floor, so you have to pull out the bin out fairly often and check to make sure it's not getting too full. If it does get too full you'll get shreds all over the floor when it's time to empty the bin.
In general, I liked this shredder. I paid only $53.27 including tax at Sam's Club, and it was a workhorse for almost six months. Unfortunately, it bit the bullet shredding a credit card solicitation this morning so it's going back to Sam's. It's not just a jam, I found a big chunk of one of the shredding disks in the bin, and it's making a horrible noise.

Junk
by bofors ,Sep 07 '06
Pros: Reverse gear, CD shredder, overheat circuit breaker with LED. Cons: Jams, overheats, messy and likely to break.
My Royal VF1012MX shredder just stop working, I had it for about six months. It sounds like some plastic gear has stripped because the cutters no longer spin and the shredder makes a grinding sound. I doubt I am going to bother fixing it.
When working this shredder would have problems on the 12 sheet loads that it is supposed to be able to handle. This might be acceptable for very light use, but certainly for shredding sessions of a few hundred sheets which do perhaps twice a month.
The shredder blades seem to accumulate an excess of paper shred and spill on floor why emptying the waste. I have to use a vacuum to clean up after it.

Royal VF1012mx Shredder
by jcis1st ,Mar 15 '07
Pros: None. Cons: Not worth the price paid. Cheaply built.
Given to me as Christmas present 2005. I keep bills for about 1.5 years then shred. On 2nd use while shredding 6 pages of phone bill shredder jammed and made high pitch sound indicating gears were slipping and would no longer turn shredder assembly. On closer inspection I discovered 1st sprocket connecting directly to motor spindle had smoothed off teeth of nylon sprocket approximately 2 inches. Unrepairable without complete sprocket replacement.

Just stopped working... Royal VF1012mx Shredder
by timtracey ,Jul 27 '09
Pros: Worked OK - until it just died. Cons: Short useful lifespan.
We used the Royal VF1012mx Shredder for light duty household shredding for one year. We only needed to empty the basket once per month.
It just stopped working. Motor makes noise but no gears turn.
Spent two hours puling out paper scraps, but still broken. Time to trash it.

Not a good Disc Shredder!
by xhardwarex ,Jun 28 '06
Pros: I honestly don't see one. Cons: Very Unreliable
I bought this at Sam's Club 2 weeks ago for $50. I got almost 150 discs shredded with this and now each time I put a disc in, it stops and I have to reverse the disc out. When shredding discs I realise you shouldn't continuously feed discs to the machine. So after it shreds a disc I wait for the motor to stop spinning, I put the next disc in and start all over. Even this was not satisfactory care as I already have to return the machine. I would not recommend this product at all. There is no reason this should have a problem so soon. Also to keep in mind, I would say 1 out of 5 discs from the beginning would get stuck. You have to turn it off and back on again and it would shred the rest of the disc. Now it's at the point where if you turn it off and back on, it doesn't recognize anything in the shredder so it doesn't spin the motor. Only thing to do is reverse the disc back out.
