Got a Home Repair Job? I Know the Drill...

by mjfrombuffalo , Feb 12 '03
Pros: Great for every-day drilling needs
Cons: Not for small hands
I admit, I'm not one of those stereotypical females. I fought tooth and nail to NOT have a bridal shower, and so when I found out I was having a "surprise" shower whether I liked it or not, I didn't ask for fru-fru stuff. I wanted tools. Luckily for...

Ambulances Look Out!

by bdolcourt , Oct 17 '00
Pros: Solid construction with great ease of use
Cons: Case could have better design
Last December, I was working for an ambulance company. Every year, they have huge blow out for the employees (it is cheaper than giving raises). Since my girlfriend, now fiancée, was out of town and I didn’t feel like showing up alone, I decided to work...

Good drill for a good price

by scotte1218 , Feb 19 '01
Pros: ease of use, comes with nice case, relatively inexpensive, light weight
Cons: battery life, bubble level is pretty much useless, could use a little more torque
About 2 years ago I had purchased a boat. All of you out there who own a boat know it requires a lot of upkeep. And I mean a lot. I had a recurring problem with mine. The serpentine belt kept breaking for some strange reason. Replacing the belt was not a...

good tool, lousy chuck

by Pabear , Nov 24 '00
Pros: Great tool
Cons: keyless chuck
Ok, I've had my Ryobi HP1201 for more than a year now. I bought it at Home Depot, at a very good price. The battery charge lasts through quite a lot of rigorous drilling, such as driving long drywall screws into wood.
It came with two battery packs,...

Lots of bang for the buck

by book75 , Apr 27 '00
Pros: inexpensive
Cons: slow battery charger
I bought this drill a few months ago to have around my apartment at school. I have a shop at my mom's house which contains a large collection of power tools, but I did not want to bring my expensive DeWalt with me since I figured I would only be doing...

Super quality!!

by studmuffin , Oct 06 '00
Pros: nicely balanced, good quality
Cons: battery life not great
I got this drill two years ago, and it is just great for any drill job i need to get done. The batteries have a fair life, and I love the keyless chuck. The only bad thing about this drill is that it drains the batteries a huge amount when drilling holes...

Tough Drill

by tomket , Dec 18 '00
Pros: Durable , Easy use ,
Cons: Not much use for the level
I received my HP1201k as a birthday gift about 2 years ago. It has got me though many projects from building bird houses to building walls. This is one tough drill, I can not remember how many times it has fallen off the ladder and still goes on. The...

Death to chargers
by xaminmo ,Apr 17 '05
Pros: Powerful, balanced, affordable.
Cons: Chargers are fragile and hard to replace.
I have a variety of releases of this drill. I have the one with the level bubble in top and screw magnet in bottom and I have 2 different ones with the speed select on top and no magnetic screw holder. The drills work great. They are powerful and well balanced.

The chargers are sensitive. They tend to burn-out without notice. I had two melt the bottom, one crack through the top from heat, and one just simply go dark. Chargers are hard to come by except off of eBay. They range about $25 after shipping. If it turns out your battery was dead, the charger will self destruct without notice. The auto-shut-off is a zener diode to a load resistor, so when it's fully charged, it just dumps the current, converts it to heat, which eventually warps the board inside, cracks the plastic, etc.
