Pros: Fast, incredibly versatile, very automatic mode or completely manual mode. Very wide range of resolutions. Cons: Comes with complicated imaging editing software that isn't necessarily compatible with std. computer packages.
I hate to buy anything related to computers or new technology... ever since I paid $2,000 for a Sperry luggable with dual floppy drives, 512K RAM, and ran at 4.7 MHZ (I think).
All you have to do is wait a few months, new machines come out,...
Pros: An idiot can use it. Powerful software, USB and SCSI Cons: None
I caught the Epson bug when I bought a Stylus 980 Printer. My experience with Epson to date has been nothing but joy. For the last few years, I have been using a STORM easyPhoto Drive to scan photos for emails. After getting married, I wanted to be...
Pros: High resolution, good color, decent scanning speed, easy to use. Cons: Somewhat flaky software, limited negative scanning area.
I purchased an Epson 1640SU in early March 2001, for $350, including shipping and handling. After using it for a week, my experiences have been quite good:
Installation was simple -- I unpacked it, plugged it in, installed the drivers, and...
Pros: High DPI number. Dual Connection: USB and SCSI Cons: Offers no SCSI connection parts like a cable and card. A USB cable is included.
OVERVIEW:
What can you say about a scanner? This one is fast, very fast. It has a high DPI resolution for a retail/consumer scanner. The TWAIN software is easy to install, and it comes bundled with some nice packages including Text Bridge OCR...
Pros: Super Fly High Quality Resolution
Super Cheap Cons: NO CONS!!!!!!!!
This is it folks.
I have found the scanner of my dreams.
If you've read my previous epinion about the Agfa DuoSuck and note the date, you will see that it has taken me 12months to find what I have been looking for. I have refused to settle! I...
Pros: So simple to use, but so flexible for the serious user... Cons: Gets pretty hot at times, not ideal for 35mm scans.
It all started out innocently enough - I was off to the computer shop with a friend to buy a CD burner and somehow came home with a scanner! For some years now, I'd sought an affordable and convenient way to scan my 120 and 4x5 inch transparencies and...
Pros: Extremely user friendly, on/off button to extend the scanner lights life. Cons: The first one had dirt under the glass
If you used an HP 4P, HP 6300, and a HP photo scanner over the past 3-4 years, and then tried an Epson 1640SU Photo. You would throw stones at all the others. The software is dead easy to use and let you add any application or(program) you want to scan...
Pros: Easy to use, excellent scan quality, good software. Has both USB or SCSI connections. Cons: Haven't come across any.
I have used many different flatbed scanners (including Apple, LaCie, HP Deskscan & a Microtek 4700-bad experience, I won’t even go there!) and this is by far my favorite, for performance, features, and ease-of-use. It offers 1600x3200 resolution with up...
I have owned a $600 SCSI scanner for several years and thought it was too good to replace. A year ago I did replace it with a Canon scanner, which immediately broke and I received zero service and support from Canon (the broken, and expensive, scanner is...
Pros: Powerful scanner - 42bit; easy to use Cons: Software is weak
This scanner is powerful - 42 bit color
Price is good.
Easy to use.
The underlying scanning software is good - Twain 5
The OCR that comes with it seems pretty good - Textbridge 8
The other parts of the software is weak...
Pros: 1600 x 3200 DPI, 42 bit color Cons: No SCSI stuff, OCR software
This scanner is GREAT! It's a professional quality scanner for the home user at a low price. If only I had an Epson printer to go along with it, I would be a printing maniac. I have made so many scans and they all come out clear. I would'nt call this...
worst scanner ever (other than other Epsons!) by buzzsmith ,May 07 '06
Pros: while it worked, it was a nice scanner. Cons: It quickly becomes a useless piece of excrement.
This is my 4th Epson scanner. I have tried to remain loyal to this brand, because they have been pioneering multiple grayscale printing for large format photography, which I hope to do, in the near future. However, this is my 3rd scanner from Epson that has developed the exact same problem. After about a year, it will start a scan (or a preview) and then just stop. My computer (a Macintosh) shows that it is waiting for the scanner to continue, but it never does. The Epson support people recommend reloading the driver (which I've done over 20 times in the last week for this scanner). This never seems to work. Rebooting, changing the USB cable, changing the USB port, using a different application for scanning have all been tried.
For all the trouble, the scanner just gave me a great feeling of joy. Have you ever seen the movie, "Office Space?" I just did to this scanner what they did to their malfunctioning copier and I have to admit, seeing it fly into tiny pieces made my day a little brighter!
