Pros: 17" monitor that works, very little picture distortion, and it's cheap. Cons: Some Moire effects.
Having using the old EV700s like the one pictured here in ePinions, I was ready to write my review. However, the EV700 keeps evolving! The second gen recieved the knob-dial controls hidden under the door instead of push buttons. Then, the third gen...
Pros: hasn't needed to be replaced Cons: attracts dust
I have a year old Dell computer. It's cute. It's grey. It sits under my desk and I could swear it smiles at me. It's a good thing that it can't see what's sitting on top of the desk. And what's on top of the desk? A Gateway EV700 monitor, circa 1997. I ...
Pros: Great entry level monitor, easy adjust controls, online support. Cons: This thing is freakin' huge ... and heavy!
I have been dealing with the computer from hell but I shouldn't say that too loudly or it might up and die on me again. I had a Dell monitor but got rid of it when I moved thinking that I'd just buy a new one. The Mag Innovision monitor ...
Pros: Excellent durability, Quality design, Vivid colors, Sharp resolution, Excellent bang for the buck Cons: Clunky startup
Originally, this EV700 came with my gateway computer back in 1997. I still own the same monitor, along with the same old clunky 400mhz computer. The monitor itself is made with superior quality, being used constantly and still working like new.

Putting together computers for people allows me the opportunity to check out different products, now and again.
Recently, a friend asked me to obtain a Gateway 2000 EV 700 monitor for him. I had gotten him one last year, and he liked it and...
Pros: Large viewable area, good clarity,no strain on eves Cons: None that I can Find
I recently purchased a Gateway computer and decided to upgrade to the ev-700,I am sure glad I did.The benefits far outway the small increase in cost.It gives you a high resoltion performance and operates in a variety of video modes. The On screen controls...
Pros: Picture quality is great, it's durable Cons: Very heavy and unbalanced, making it hard to carry.
This is a nice, basic CRT monitor. Beige in color, with a screen that's pretty curved. Pretty large and chunky. Mine didn't come with the stand in the picture because I bought it used, so it just sits flat on my desk. Rather than buttons, this CRT ...
Pros: It worked well for a year and a half Cons: It crashed after just a year and a half
I got this monitor as standard with a computer that I ordered from Gateway at the middle of 2000. At first, the monitor worked really well. The resolution was great, the video display was wonderful, and I was very happy.
Pros: Good quality, big picture, low price Cons: bad video cable
I have been using this monitor for over a year now and I am pretty happy with it. I bought it used on ebay and I think it was a pretty good deal. Weight didn't seem to be a problem for me but maybe im in a little bit better shape than some of the other...
I love my new EV700. I have owned it for 2 months now and I just can't believe what a difference two inches makes on a screen. I just love how it doesn't seem like I am straining as much.
I am also very fond of how the menu and select buttons are...
I swapped for this monitor, to avoid having to move with it. I really liked my old KDS. I hate this EV700. It only supports 800x600 and 1024x768. Whenever I play video, .mpegs, .mov etc... the display gets twitchy and the video trails and mouse movement trails, badly. It's noisy, I get hum from my speakers when scrolling the display. Ok, my speakers are crappy, but combined with a crappy monitor, it sounds really crappy. It will not support AGP. The monitor is always getting out of alignment, it'll pincushion and the whole viewable area will drift over time.
Pros: Crisp picture quality
Advanced menu structure
Cons: Non-detachable VGA cable
Quite bulky at the rear
(applies for some first/second generation models)
Features:
17-inch (diag.) LG picture tube
Rotary control (on some models)
I have a second hand, second generation EV700 I have used for nearly two years now. I came across it when a friend gave it to me, since he was upgrading to an LCD-type monitor.
I'm impressed with the controls, a wheel behind the flip-door. The monitor's menu has many options to adjust, making a satisfactory picture.
The only drawback is the picture is it has started to dim, because of my friend put many hours on it; which isn't a real issue, I have since replaced it last week. It is now relegated to the basement machine. Also, like many monitors, the VGA cable is wired to the monitor; which is a design quirk, in my opinion.
Since the late 1990's design monitors are prevalent in second-hand shops, they can fetch a good value at a satisfactory price.
