Shuttle AK31 Motherboard

Pros: Great price and very fast. Accepts more memory than competetors.
Cons: On-board sound not the best.

I have to say I am surprised more people haven't reviewed this motherboard as it seems to be a very popular upgrade board. A mainboard is best if you can't tell it is really there and it doesn't require any special setup. I learned my lesson a long time...

Very Stable board with more Ram slots than most in its class. This was the first Shuttle board I ever bought and it was a definite winner. In fact, I'm still using it today as I'm writing this review with it. It's not a flashy board, but it's very dependable. When this board was made, there were SEVERAL problems with MANY motherboard and graphics card manufacturers using DEFECTIVE capacitors that would either bulge or just burn out. This would cause items to fail or work erratically. My board never had this problem and apparently, this board seems to have been made with quality capacitors. Unlike the AK32 & AK32a models.

It's never given my any trouble, very easy to use and is really fast. Great for PC games, and it can hold 4gigs of DDR.

My first and only DIY(Do it yourself)PC,I have a T-bird 1.4Gz with 512 MB PC2100 DDR Ram, runs fantastic,supposed to be a good overclocker(I haven't tried that though).I play Quake 3 Arena,Team Arena,runs smooth as silk. I love it!
