An amazing, feature laden unit for the price!

by pepper99 , Nov 02 '02
Pros: Excellent value for money, Great features for this level of router.
Cons: No power switch, Connections on front of unit.
There simply isn't a better deal on the market right now the the SMR 7004ABR if your looking for a middle-ground router for use with home or small office networking, or high-speed internet sharing. Initial thoughts: The unit is compact, and has a ...

Quit teasing me! Does it work or not?

by CreamChief , Dec 19 '01
Pros: Built in print server, 24 hour tech support
Cons: Cannot maintain PPPoE connection, misleading tech support, complicated firewall configuration
Had I read a review like this one that I am writing I would have saved myself the days of troubleshooting. For countless hours over several days, after an exchange of one defective router, through three firmware revisions, I just gave up. The...

Router Has At Least 2 Different HW Revisions

by ckskinner , Apr 06 '05
Pros: Hardware Rev.1 units works fine. Simpler than DLINK to setup firewall.
Cons: Rev.2-plus Hardware-Accelerated SPI units don't work.
The hardware revision is the key to its ability to maintaining a good connection. Rev.1=Part No. 750.xxxx, Rev.2=Part No. 751.xxxx. Product at end of cycle?=No Warranty. As an interim situation for when my initial 2001 vintage SMC7004abr died of old ...

Dial-up Connections an Afterthought

by kwschumm , Feb 12 '03
Pros: Inexpensive, flexible
Cons: Unreliable dial-up connections, frequent lock-ups, poor tech support
As a software engineer who works at home, I needed a router to serve the half-dozen or so PCs I use during software development. I live in the boonies where there is no broadband availability so I needed a router that would support dial-up connections....

Darn Worth It!

by tizme , Oct 18 '02
Pros: Print Server & price.
Cons: No on/off switch and port cables visible.
First, if you don't know the first thing about networking ...any router might seem intimidating. Routers allow more than one PC to share resources. In this case, of the many choices, this is one of the easiest ways to go. The 7004ABR is meant for the...

Finally, a router that works!

by fizbeam , Sep 02 '02
Pros: Great price, built in print server, very reliable.
Cons: Can be hard to find a supplier.
After throwing my Linksys out the window in frustration, I searched around for something better. I tried DLink, I tried NetGear, and finally settled on this unit.

The Barricade is extremely easy to install and set up. Configuration options...

BUY IT.

by ito_ttsom , Nov 29 '02
Pros: Works perfectly and worked the first time...
Cons: Ports on front of router. No ON/OFF switch.
It installed perfectly, but if you have a problem, you better be tech savvy enough to figure it out on your own.

I did have one tech question, and you can just forget being able to actually talk to a real live person...(2 hours hold time, and...

Don't put too much faith in the warranty...

by jim_policke , Dec 05 '02
Pros: Easy setup, browser-based control panel.
Cons: SMC may not honor your warranty.
I installed one of these 15 months ago. The setup was fast and easy. A convenient feature is the printer port built in, so you can send a document to your printer from any PC you own; the printer no lon ger has to be connected to a system and shared,...

Average unit

by fge2 , Apr 25 '02
Pros: Easy to set up
Cons: Sometimes lags and needs to be reset
This thing, although easy to set up, has had more than a few problems.

Set up is easy. Just type the router's IP address into internet explorer, type in the internet info, and you're done.

I have had more than a few problems with...
