Pros: excellent display, battery life, dvd w/ tv out, great price, excellent reputation Cons: sound system leaves a little be desired (as does most laptop sound systems)
Toshiba has a long standing history of producing excellent laptops that are durable and reliable and withstand the constant poundings most laptops undergo.
My objective was to find a laptop in the lower end of the price range ($1500 or less)...
Pros: Excellent multi-media/game machine for the price. Cons: Poor sound, DVD software very buggy.
I bought this one as a refurb after my first (2800-S201) was broken in an accident. This model has an uglier case than the 2800 series and the sound is nowhere near as good. The WINDVD software included with the laptop was excellent unless you updated...
Works well with OpenSuse Linux 10.3 by suhubaman ,Jun 30 '08
Pros: Sensitive Keyboard, Great Display, Screen Folds down to table, Okay Sound, DVD player and Buttons. Cons: None Yet!
I bought this laptop at a garage sale for 30 dollars and put Linux (OpenSuse 10.3) on the drive and have been highly pleased. The graphics are clear and precise. The programs run pretty smoothly. Some of the applications are just a tad slower than the newer laptops, but, for a 2002 machine, I was amazed at the performance. The sound was okay compared to most laptops and the keyboard is wide and very sensitive. This laptop is 6 years old and works better than most purchased in the last 2 years. If Toshiba can build a newer upgrade to this model, I would buy it TODAY!
