My husband and I purchased this mattress in October of 2002 the inserts(or bladders)have failed 4 TIMES since then. The last fail date was 10/27/03. The bladders are constructed of a cheap thin plastic material and somehow they keep getting small holes in them and I end up sleeping on a deflated mattress. I had surgery in Feb.2003 and found out I was pregnant in March. Since that time the product has failed 3 times. The owner does not care and has no customer service skills. They have waited at least 10 days to ship out replacements each time. I am suffering and can't sleep at night. I have made a BIG mistake.

I never had any sleep problems. I didn't think so anyway. But then I tried the SAM mattress and slept better than I ever had before. It is a really great mattress. It is an air mattress with several cylinders. This means that all the different cylinders adjust to your weight instead of just sinking into the middle like on a regular air mattress. Also there is no pump or anything like that on this mattress. It automatically refills and then automatically adjusts when you lay down on it. It supports you and relieves pressure points. I only bought a new mattress because I was moving and didn't think my old one was worth bringing for the trip. I wish I had gotten the SAM mattress earlier. I wake up every morning feeling a lot better than I had before. I really feel like I am getting a full night of deep sleep.

I bought my SAM Mattress before reading epinions. I have been fairly happy with the mattress. It is adjustable and my wife and I are fairly comfortable sleeping. It is not a life changing "never have any pain, best night's sleep", but it is comfortable and adjustable.

After having the king size SAM for about a year, my side lost the ability to hold air and became very soft. I was a little worried about what I read regarding customer service.
I called the 800 number, told them I had a problem, and they transferred me to "Sharkey". He took my info, asked me in detail what the problem was and said a new complete insert will be shipped. I live about 200 miles away and the new one arrived in 2 days. They also included a self paid return shipping label. A very pleasant experience.

The main reason I purchased was to avoid the sagging that usually occurs in spring mattresses after 2-3 years.

They talked me into this bed when i called about there temperpedic bed , hope it would help with back pain .Made back hurt worse, nothing but problems returning had to wait 30 days to return, cost 150 to mail back. Charged us for free pillows and will not refund. When we call to resolve the issue we get put on hold and they never pick up, called 12 times and they will not talk to us about refund. Before trying i suggest getting every thing they promise on paper and a detailed receipt of what your being charged.

The sales information is impressive, and the mattress, when the technology works, gives good support. However, my experience has been that the valves are unreliable. Within a year's time, my husband's side of the bed developed a a deep permanent trench. The instructions from Comfort Direct were to bounce on the bottom tube to fix the problem. It didn't work, and a new air chamber was sent. His side was fixed but within six months, my side developed the same problem. After several calls, a new air chamber was sent for my side. Unfortunately, this new air chamber has also failed. Paying $1200 for a mattress that lasts only three years is a poor value. My back is hurting, and we are now shopping for a more traditional mattress from a local supplier.

As a shift worker, sleep is of utmost importance. Sleeping during the day is difficult as it is and when you toss and turn on a bad mattress, it makes it almost impossible to get the amount of restful sleep I need. I purchased the SAM from comfort direct and I love it! I sleep more soundly, and when I wake up I am not sore or aching. This mattress is so wonderful, I have recommended it to all my friends and co-workers. Thanks comfort direct for making an incredible product. You have a customer for life!

A couple months ago I commented on the customer service I rec'd from this company. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. I have since received my bed and been sleeping on it for about 6 months. For the first 60 days or so, I really didn't see that big of a difference. But around 90 days my back pain had subsided immensly. I have gone through 4 mattresses in 4 years trying to find one to help my pain. I love the quality and comfort of this bed. The lambswool top is so comfortable. I love being able to adjust the firmness of the bed as well. I would highly recommend this bed to anyone with back and neck pain. Just remember to give it the 90 days.

I bought a SAM mattress and it arrived with dirt on the bottom UNDER the plastic it was sealed in. Kevin Dyevich dismissed it as nothing. It also had dirt on the pad covers INSIDE the mattress components. There was noise from the left side chambers. I called and requested a 'return authorization' for a refund. Kevin refused. Claimed the website said you couldn't return it for 30 days. When you ask about a return he screams and curses and gets totally obnoxious, just like the other epinion reviews say. What a SCAM. This guy's 90 day trial is a joke. He won't give you the authorization to return it. I've never seen such shoddy business practices. And Kevin is the owner. There's no one else to talk to. BUYER BEWARE...this is not worth the trouble. There are other better business bureau complaints on him.

Have had the piece of junk for 4 years now and have hated it everyday. It is very loud due to the cheap plastics involved. The control valve on the side is just for show and hardly works. The wool topper is OK and will soon be a dog bed. The only good thing to come out of this mattress is scraps that I use to make the dog bed. Kevin does make it hard to return and does use bully tactics. I feel the positive reviews are only ones written by he or family under different names. The websites for this bed are full of lies, do not believe a word. It's all hype! I cannot see how anyone likes this bed. Do not waist your cash! Go find a nice inter spring or latex or even a Select comfort. I have had them all and so far Latex has been the most comfortable.

I have been shopping for an adjustable bed and read these reviews prior to making a purchase. I saw the tremendous difference in the ratings. I went to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and entered their info, it's free and a good reliable source for any company. IF YOU DO THIS THE TRUTH WILL BE KNOWN. I am looking elsewhere.

I didn't like the mattress. The company offered to make adjustments, but when I refused to alter the mattress, they began playing games. The bottom line is that they will not allow you to return the mattress. Don't buy a mattress before trying it, and don't buy from a small, two-bit operation like this.

I did NOT like this mattress for the following reasons:

1. It smelled. Even after many days sitting out in the open air, it reeked.

2. The air inside when exhausted as you roll over, smells like mildew.

3. It does NOT reduce pressure points as stated

4. If two twins are placed together and one side is tightened up or made harder, it curves the side of the mattress so there is a "hole" between the two mattresses.

I purchased a king sized SAT matress and the tubes seem to be deflating.  I have been sleeping in a sink hole for quite some time.  I was so thankful that I purchased a matress that came with a warranty, until I found out that it was worthless!  When you have a problem, they make you go through a lengthy troubleshooting process.  If you continue to have problems, they make you pay for a replacement part.  They claim that they will test the part for a defect and IF it is found to be defective, they will refund your money for the part, but you are still responsible for the freight charge.  There is no guarantee that they will ever refund your money, regardless of how defective you tell them it is.  In order to speak to a customer service representative, you have to leave a voicemail.  I have left three voicemail messages that have not been returned.  If there is no defect in the matress, it seems to be great.  Good luck if you get a defective one because you will never get any customer service!!!

The SAT bed has been a wonderful purchase for both my wife and myself. For several years we have both been waking up with chronic pains in our joints and backs. Specifically my wife was waking to extreme shoulder pain every morning. I was waking to lower and middle back pain that took several hours to go away and due to the pain through the night we would wake tired.

We researched several different options for new mattresses and found the SAT bed to be our choice. Since purchasing the SAT bed and sleeping on the mattress for almost 2 months our chronic pain in the mornings has gone away and we wake refreshed each morning. Recently we slept in a hotel with a regular mattress. Once again the pain returned to my lower and middle back and I could not wait to get back home to our SAT bed. I highly recommend the SAT bed to anyone who has any back pain or anyone who
wants to get a great night sleep and sleep through the entire night.

Arthritis, spinal degeneration, tossing and turning, major back pain in the morning...we needed help. We found the mattress while researching ways to decrease back pain. The bed was very comfortable and did indeed lessen tossing and turning and back pain in the morning. However, due to the off-gassing, which did not help my husband's asthma condition, it did not work out for us. I was in contact with customer service and immediately had resolution without any attitude that so often accompanies returns. We kept the bed for about 40 days in hopes of getting used to the off-gassing, but my husband's increased number of asthma attacks did not go away. We concluded that he must have been allergic to one of the chemicals in the bed. We did not have any trouble returning the bed for a full refund minus shipping. We wound up going with an organic-pedic mattress from Lifekind, a company that we found on the web, and are sleeping like babies now. But all in all, the SAT bed was indeed comfortable and lived up to its claims.

I have sleep on this bed for 2 years and my back and body are worst off know than ever. I wake up every morning felling I have spent the night fighting a bear and I have this bed. My wife sleeps in the guest bedroom because of this bed she has been in there for over a year. We spend so much money of this bed we can't afford another but I am so tired of it I am going to take money from our retirement account to buy another bed. That is how I came across this site. I am checking out what others have to say before I buy.

It has false information about how comfortable it is.
It seems Kevin has his own game.
The SAM is now the SAT and separated itself from Kevin and the SAM

I highly recommend this bed.  I bought the SAM over 5 years ago, even after reading the bad reviews here and on other sites.  I didn't have any real problems w/Kevin but I admit he wasn't helpful when I initially had questions.  (Glad to see he's gone)  We got the memory foam topper.

It took awhile to get the bed adjusted and to finally get a good night's sleep but since then it's been wonderful.  I am a gardener and woodworker w/arthritis and often fall into bed aching and sore.  I always wake up refreshed and pain-free without medicine.

A few months ago I contacted the company because my bed wasn't springing back in the mornings.  The woman on the phone was VERY helpful providing a checklist of things to try and asking for a picture of the baffles.  Within a week I had new baffles on my doorstep at no charge to me.  I'd say that's standing by the warrantee.

We used to go through a cheap mattress every couple years and still be achy all the time.  This is quite a bargain in my mind.

See my DJR700 review in 2006. I had purchased a queen and loved it. I then got married in 2007 and gave the queen to my parents and purchased a King SAM mattress. My parents love the bed. When we go on vacation we really feel the difference of sleeping on other beds.  Sore and stiff. When we come back home to the SAM mattress we actually say Ahhhh  what a big difference.  I believe they still give a few month trial.  So just keep the box and ship it back. But you wont. I was apprehensive but it is a great mattress.

I ordered the mattress after seeing the website and then talking (twice) with a very nice person named Jorge who took time to answer all of my questions. I was a little nervous about buying something so expensive without seeing it, but was assured I could try it for 90 days and return it if not satisfied. THEN I found this website and read all the negative opinions. If the mattress hadn't already been shipped, I probably would have canceled my order after reading the reviews. NOW I'm glad I didn't see them before, because I'm very satisfied with the mattress so far. I've only had it about three weeks, but have been feeling so rested and pain free, especially my neck. I can't speak to the durability since it's been such a short time, but I carefully inspected the mattress and it seems to be well made. I am expecting this to be the last mattress I buy, so hope the 20 year guarantee is valid.

My husband and I purchased this bed more than two years ago, we love it, we had one problem about a year later and the company sent us a replacement part immediately. I told my brother about the mattress and after much research he and his wife also purchased the mattress. We all love it. I live with back paid and numbness in my hip and since this mattress I have no more pain. My sister-in-law has also had really bad back pain and she too has gotten better rest than ever before. We highly recommend the mattress and we have had absolutely no customer service problems just the opposite we got great customer service.

After researching for new mattresses all over the web I eventually found Comfort Direct. Their website was pretty informative so I called for a price quote. I spoke with Brian. He answered my questions and assured me there would not be a problem getting the mattress out to me. I decided to order and he told me it would take about 10 days to ship. I received the order after about 12 days. A few days after I received the mattress Brian called to check and see how I was liking it. He helped me to troubleshoot a few adjustments with the dial and he explained a few things to me. I've heard that some people have had bad experiences but I didn't have any problems. Maybe this company has restaffed and has been able to upgrade their customer service because overall I am pleased with my purchase.

In October 2005 I purchased a SAM mattress, found it didn't meet our needs, and returned it after acquiring the required RA# and using their shipper. Never received refund. It is now October 2006 and I'm still trying. The company's leadership is dishonest. In April of 2006,the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General Division of Consumer Affairs filed suit against the company and its president for fraud. I encourage anyone else who has had trouble with the company to file an official complaint. To see the press release, Google "Comfort Direct Suit" and it's the first hit. Please don't make the same mistake I did. It's just not worth it.

I have had this bed for 6 yrs.  I love it.  My wife and I noticed that the foundation was "sagging" in the middle.  After taking some photos and some phone calls....Ryan helped us replace the foundation FREE.  That is a company that stands behind their product.

From the comments I have read regarding a SAM bed the reviews are possitive on the bed but this Kevin or Ken person who takes the orders is negative.    I don't think anyone in their right mind should judge the quality of a bed by the personality of the order taker on the end of the phone.   I have slept on this bed at the Hilton Garden Inn and its the best sleep I have had in years.  I conduct bus tours and all my passengers rant and rave about the beds.   So If you like it buy it!   But don't judge the bed by attitude of Kevin or Ken or Barbie or who ever is on the other line! lol.

I had been experiencing severe back pain for over a year. The Orthopedic doctor ordered me to 2 MRIs which revealed degenerative discs in l2 ,l3, l4 and schmortl's nodule at T3. The doctor offered no solutions. A second Orthopedic doctor prescribed physical therapy. The stretching and exercises helped manage the pain but did not help the constant aches and pains in the center of my back. I tried everything you could think of to get rid of some pain.
I couldn't do anything without pain like sit, walk, stand and worst of all sleep .... I was in need for a cure.

I Noticed a major decrease in the pain in my back by the 3rd night sleeping with the amazing SAM. Within about a week to 12 days my constant pain was completely gone. I went to bed like a king. I don't understand why some people are giving this amazing mattress bad reviews. Me and my wife are large people (Heavy) and we were demanding on what we wanted from a new mattress. My wife has bad back problems and has seen the top doctors. Doctors only can do a operation, but she doesn't want it done. For 20 years of waking up in the morning with back and shoulder pains , me and my wife have spent most of our nights getting up and going to the bathroom several times a night, as well not getting a good sleep. The first morning after we bought our SAM mattress, my wife woke up with out the major pain, only in the first night. She was a totally different person the next day. I am an easy going person, but i thought i was getting a quality mattress when i bought mine from Comfort Direct. My back kills me every morning and i have no way of getting my money back. They simply refuse! The center of my bed is 3 inches lower than the ends. According to Mr. Kevin Dyevich the owner that my problem. Comfort direct does not honor their guarantee! If you don't believe me i guarantee you will after you buy one. I had the mattress 3 months before this problem started. I also only weigh 175 pounds. Somebody needs to stop this company. Kevin is getting rich with an inferior product. I am seeking legal help and in contact with the better business bureau which is a pain but someone has to stop comfort direct.

I recently purchased a bed and base from the company who makes this sam bed. I got it for my quadriplegic son. Not only did the bed come damaged i found out after I put my son on the bed and it broke apart with him on it and he could not be touched for a few days. the owner did not want to take back the bed and has yet to refund my money. so beware buyers. This owner is a jerk and a scam artist who has no regard for handicapped people. Remember Chris Reeves died of bed sores and this sam mattress was his mattress.

I am EXTREMELY happy with my SAT mattress. It has work wonders for both me and my wife. I thought by adding a good review it may help other people with their choice of selecting mattresses. I do understand that all products are not for everyone, but it is in our human nature to let everyone else know when we are NOT happy.

Usually satisfied customer disappears, thus I thought putting in a GOOD review may help the cause. I promised my sales rep, Brian, that I would be active in letting other potential customers know that it has indeed help me!

You'd want someone involved in a product with health-care value to be ... well, caring. As suggested in other reviews, the main guy (Kevin) seems to be a grasping businessman. His way of interacting with me was consistent with the return problems that people have described; but I have not bought the product and do not know of return problems from personal experience. (My answers to "ease of use" and such are not meaningful.)

This may be a very small company; and maybe VSS Sleep Systems is just another name.

I'd contact some of the organizations listed on the Web site and see (a) if they really did use and recommend the beds (and which ones, specifically); and (b) if the needs they mention (spina bifida, for example) are at all related to your own. If you buy and have trouble on returns, do not hesitate to contact the Better Business Bureau and perhaps the Attorney General in New Jersey.

You take action because folks come to this mattress with health concerns, and it is harmful to society in all sorts of ways if a company is exploiting those concerns.

I have had this bed for 3 yrs now, just kept forgetting to write a review. My wife and I had tried all the other beds in the showrooms (Temperpedic, Select Comfort, Intellibed, Duxiana, and spring mattresses) None felt quite right, then I found Sat beds online, I phoned and they gave me even more information than was online. Very nice person that I talked to. Can't remember his name. Anyway the bed has been great to sleep on for 3 years and everything is still looking good even the side foam panels, which I was worried about. I did not like the wool pad on top, made me way too hot, so we got a 2 inch memory foam mattress pad on top.  Works great. I love this bed and recommend it to anyone who will listen.

I purchased my mattress from David Tilly at WCW Inc. not comfort direct? The sales appears to be handled by a new company. David spent about one and half hours with me and is the only person that seemed to care about me in the bedding world. I like the mattress's ability to make my arms not fall asleep and that I can change it from soft to firm. The mattress does work different from a sleep number bed which is why I tried it. The only thing that I did not like about it is the fear from the other comments made me feel uneasy. But fortunately I did not have to worry about any return policy or lack thereof. I bought it Back February 08'.

OMG! so good to come here and find others that have had to deal with "Kevin!" and his SAT mattress. He is horrible. Customer Service? He is like a used car saleman that has sold you a clunker. (no offense to anyone who sells used cars.)
I did some research on the internet. Found him and his store in NJ. I contacted him. Bought or rather financed the mattress. Received it. Hate it. Still have the hip and backache. Sending it back next week, well within the 90 day trial period. (It's been 3 weeks today.) I've called him numerous times, sent him several emails. Nothing. Finally got him on the phone because he answered it! He is very rude! I would not recomend this type of mattress. And I would not recomend Sleep Back and Beyond due to their poor customer service.

Did anyone else see the claim that this mattress was eligible for reimbursement for durable medical equipment from Medicare on Comfort Direct's website?  They claimed they were submitting my claim for me and now it seems it is not even eligible.  Have been fighting this since Dec. 2007.

I am in the middle of trying to discuss with Kevin, owner and only one to talk to, a problem with the topper pad. At first he said they don't sell visco foam, because it is no good, but when he realized that they had sold me visco memory foam, he stated rudely that I must have insisted against their recommendation. As soon as he realized that I may be a problem, he put me on hold repeatedly, hung up on me, and then refused to answer the phone. I think I'm having a problem with one of the air cylinders also, but could never get to that discussion. I am trying all the customer service numbers and email, but am being ignored. I have actually gotten two other people to buy this bed, one person's experience with Kevin was awful.

I will follow up and let this site know if Kevin came through satisfactorily or if I went to an attorney.

the sat bed is something that can only be described as magic! I am not just saying that either. it is magic. when I am horny it reaches up and gives me a hand job. when I am hungry it gets up and makes me a pot pie.

I just ordered a SAT mattress this weekend. Having read all the post here on peoples dealings with warranty issues. I asked about Kevin who appeared to be the source of much of the contention. It appears that the company has stopped using Kevin and has taken the sales back into their (WCW Inc) control. I believe this happened around January '08. Warranty and return issues should no longer be a problem. Only time will tell but from what I have read here very few people did not like the mattress itself. Rather most complaints were about personnel issues. I spoke with Ryan and he answered all my questions and did a very professional job.

Mattress is very expensive in my eyes but the technology sound great and should have not sagging problems over time. If I do I know how to get it fixed.

Will report back after I get the mattress and try it for awhile.

Wanted to comment on the Kevin issue since it was the primary reason for complaints in many of the older post here. It almost scared me off. Glad I asked about it.
