Protecting children from water related injuries or death was firmly placed in my mind as a young child on vacation. While at a campground in Cody Wyoming, I had the unfortunate experience of watching my father and several men attempt to resuscitate a...
Pros: No false alarm from wind, horn in house and loud, easily transportable, reliable Cons: Uneven quality of bracelets, will only protect your kids (not the neighbor's)

Poor customer service.

Cons: Somewhat expensive (but worth every penny).
I feel compelled to give credit where credit is due as another reviewer seems to be having problems with the Turtle Pool Alarm and their dogs. Having moved to So. California last winter to a hillside home with a fairly large in ground pool, we ...
Pros: fits well on their small necks and doesn't cause any discomfort Cons: . One of the turtles has died after 2 years and can't be fixed
As we winter in Florida and our house has a swimming pool I was concerned about the safety of my 4 toy dogs. I have 2 toy poodles and 2 maltese. After researching for a pool alarm on the internet I found the turtle pool alarm and bought a base station and 4 turtles. I had to buy narrow band collars to put the turtles on. My dogs wear the alarms comfortably and we did have one incident where my maltese Misty actually did fall in the pool and had we not heard the alarm and reacted quickly she would have drowned. So I feel it was money well spent. My only complaint is there have been times when the alarm has gone off for no reason and so when it goes off our first reaction is not to look in the pool but to shut the alarm off.
We purchased the Safety Turtle and four wristbands from Terrapin. They were a wonderful company to deal with and, when it turned out our base station was defective, they sent us another one immediately. We have a houseboat on a large lake so safety is the number one priority for us and, with four grandsons between the ages of one and four, we look for ANYTHING that will keep these little ones safe and secure. We tested the Turtles all around the boat and found that the alarms work everywhere near the water (we were worried because of all the steel and aluminum in the boat). (Note: If you have a baby, try strapping it on their ankle.) The units are very sensitive ... one time the alarm sounded and everyone immediately sprang into action. Luckily, it turned out that the two older boys had found some water pistols and were dousing each other soundly. While it was a 'heart-stopping' moment, everyone feels better now knowing how well the Turtles work.
