Pros: Large steam trays, three heaters, three timers & low water alarm.
Cons: Takes up large counter space area & water scale build up.
The Salton / Richard Simmons Steam Heat Steamer is much more than a rice only steamer - it's a food steamer. The three steam trays hold nice size quantities of food. It's the only steamer I've seen to actually steams each chamber completely separated from the other (water catch chambers are separated also) so flavors won't intermingle. Each chamber it's own steamer & timer and programmed so they finish at the same time. In my opinion it's the best steamer I've seen.
The cons I listed are from other consumer complaints, but these problems don't bother me at all. It is very large. I don't mind big appliances & I use it often so it stays on my kitchen counter. The steamer heating caps have a water scale build up problem like all these types do. I wrap cleaning rags around the caps secured with rubber bands & pour undiluted white vinegar over them. I let them soak overnight and the scale wipes right off.
Salton should make this steamer again. It's the best steamer I've owned & it can't be replaced when it finally stops functioning.
