Pros: great food, great fun Cons: somewhat pricey
New York City offers many places to go for great food and fun, but Sammy’s Roumanian Steak House is a unique dining experience that (almost) everyone should try at least once! The food is fabulous, the service is great, and the atmosphere is fun, fun,...

Pros: None worth going back for. Cons: Extraordinarily overpriced, loud, mostly mediocre food.
I went to Sammy's because a friend requested it for his birthday. This turned out to be the most overpriced restaurant I have ever encountered. The prix fixe meal was quoted as $55 to the party host (already over priced) but ended up being $77 per ...

Pros: Loud fun, an unusual evening, change of pace, tasty Roumanian fare & egg creams Cons: Not for everyone; not cheap; inconvenient location
Sammy's is one of the last remaining places that says "lower east side", reminiscent of the days when pickles in barrels were more common and Jews were the immigrant group populating the area. It's certainly not for a quick bite, but when you're in the...

Pros: A memorable, outrageous evening Cons: Not for the uptight.
Ok, everybody who ever misses their early college days, needs a place for a bachelor party, or has a juvenile streak in them has to go here once. Totally unique, and behavior otherwise frowned upon in polite society is actively encouraged here. ...

Pros: Great service, food and entertainment. You'll talk about it to all your friends. Cons: Pricey. (You're having so much fun, the bill creeps up without you knowing it)
When I first walked into the joint, I thought I was at an AA meeting--plain, boxy room with low ceilings and florescent lights, packed with tables. But it quickly became clear that this place was anything but ordinary. The entertainment is infectious, ...

A really fun time
by brooklynborn ,Dec 19 '04
Pros: Good food, good entertainment makes for a good time. Cons: A bit out of the way.
This is a place to have a fun meal. Great for celebrating an occasion, like we just did. Two birthdays. Like the commercial used to say "you don't have to be Jewish to love it". The food is excellent, at least by my standards. The large tenderloin is really large, easily enough for 2 people. It's one of the best steaks I've ever had in NY, better than those expensive steakhouses in mid-town. All the appetizers and sides are great, although I have had better stuffed cabbage. The chopped liver with onions and radish is great. BTW, for non-beef eaters, the chicken was very good, and the fish brought to the next table looked very good. The entertainment was excellent and just right for the crowd. My daughter said it was the best birthday dinner she ever had, and we've been to some pretty good places.
