Small, sleek Samsung portable DVD player is awesome, considering its size!

by alexdg1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 30 '05
Pros: Easy to use and assemble (battery pack), fantastic audio-visual playback, portable
Cons: Battery charge lasts only 2 hours
I have to be honest -- I never planned on owning a portable DVD player with its own screen, partly because I have a perfectly good Samsung 5-disc player connected to my 27" Samsung TV set, partly because one from a reputable brand costs a bit more than ...

A solid performer for the money

by jasono , May 05 '05
Pros: Good, solid screen and sound for a good price.
Cons: Some reliabilty issues. Lacking ease and features you might expect.
1/14/06 Update - I have been without a functioning player for the past week because the dvd drive stopped spinning. Emails to Samsung have gone unanswered for a week so in a fit of desperation I pushed the slider arm that houses the laser lens into its ...

Good video, marginal audio

by savitale , Jul 25 '06
Pros: Screen quality, Screen size, Price
Cons: Low volume, No battery charge indicator, Long recharge time
Other reviews have gone into details about the specifications and features of the unit, so I will confine my comments to my observations. Background I purchased the Samsung DVD-L70 for use during air travel. I wanted something that would be ...

The best for under $200

by malaugh , May 08 '05
Pros: Excellent Picture Quality. Slim and Light. Plays DVD-Rs. MP3s and picture disks.
Cons: No brightness or contrast adjustments. Battery takes a long time to charge, Fiddly Menus.
This is the best of the Sub-$200 players. The picture quality is miles ahead of the competition. It will play all all my disks from my DVD recorder. as well as my MP3s and picture disks (although the picture quality is poor when viewing pictures). ...

Poor sound quality
by btroth ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: warranty, screen resolution
Cons: volume, battery life
I bought this player based on Samsung reputation and 12 month warranty versus other players that had only 90 day warranties. I liked the quality of the unit, ease of use, and screen resolution. However the sound was too weak. The speakers on the unit were not too bad, but I could hardly hear the DVD with the headphones while on the road. It would be even worse while traveling by plane. I tried several different headphones but the unit just didn't have enough volume. Also, the unit would just shut off for no apparent reason.

Expensive and Unreliable
by yellowb ,Jul 13 '07
Pros: Looks sleek.
Cons: Not recommended to play during roadtrips.
I purchased this DVD player to use on road trips and on the side in my room.
The DVD player worked great in my room on my desk.

The video quality is decent. I have seen better.
The menu is also decent.
The look of the player is sleek and very nice.
And the build of the player seems sturdy (except it does not look like it would work if you dropped it).

When I used this in a car, the DVD player would lock up after a bump or two, and then the DVD would just stop (sometimes going back to play). Otherwise you will need to power off and repower the DVD player.

Overall I would not recommend this player since you can get something much cheaper for the same quality.

Lightweight SO BE VERY CAREFUL
by faiye ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: truly an amazingly sharp screen with adequate sound quality. Highly portable
Cons: Too portable for words, one of the lightest in the market. Made of plastic
Ive used the L75 version. The only difference is the battery life. L75 has 4 hours.

This type of Samsung portable DVD is great for commuters. the video quality is sooooo unbelievably sharp and I did enjoy watching my videos. the size and quality is great.

Actually--its quite light that I broke it. I normally take the battery off, hence making the screen body part lighter. Then it slipped off---so gone is my video.

Its just made of hard plastic so its gone with the wind. Thats the only peeves. Maybe i should try to repair it again.

PS. also read the manual. It took me a month or two to find out how to fast forward. You fast forward by pressing a particular button approx 3 seconds.

Ok unit, annoying features
by claytonpam ,Dec 18 '05
Pros: great picture good ergonomics
Cons: can't handle much movement no brightness and contrast controls
The screen quality on this unit is excellent however there are no brightness and contrast controls. Also it is very temperamental when traveling in a car. It desperately needs some anti-shock mechanism. My unit would stop playing often due to what I would judge to be normal use. It's not like it needs a 30-sec. anti-skip mechanism or anything. I've read many other complaints about the same thing. I guess I can only add my testimony to theirs. I can't figure out why there isn't a great unit on the market. The technologies that go into these are not new.

A total piece of garbage!
by vinteron ,Jul 03 '06
Pros: Screen size, battery life.
Cons: Every thing else. Worst consumer product I've ever owned. Will not buy from Samsung again.
I bought this portable DVD player because it had a longer than typical battery life and had a decent size screen. In retrospect, those are the only two decent qualities about this Korean-made piece of junk. Pixels will DIE for no obvious reason on the LCD display. Samsung will be impossible to get in touch with to get said problem fixed. The DVD skips like crazy when you're using it on the road and hit even a minor bump. Sound quality is worthless. Also, the screen size will not automatically OR manually adjust, so what you're left with is either squatty hobbits or lanky aliens in every movie you watch. It seems that not one singe DVD I inserted had normal proportions to the image when viewing. I suppose you get what you pay for, but with this product, you're basically paying for garbage.
