Pros: Upconverts-and-accepts true 1080p HDTV signals. Accepts USB cards. Awesome Color. See Review Body. Cons: I honestly can't think of any cons for this HDTV; it is an incredible television.
I recently purchased the Samsung HL-S5087W DLP HDTV, and I think its performance is amazingly wonderful. I had been comparing this HDTV to a couple other models, such as the Sony KDS-R50XBR1 LCOS HDTV and a couple others using HDTV technologies such as ...
Pros: Exceptional picture, sleek looks, pretty easy to set up. Cons: Typical TV sound. Fixed volume audio out.
Our 32" Sony finally died after 13 years, so time for a new television. Thought I might as well go with HDTV. After reading lots of reviews and gaining some understanding of the different technologies (DLP, LCD, plasma) we went to the stores to look at ...
Pros: Unbeatable HDTV image of any DLP in this screen size range. Cons: Audio of a $20 portable radio, no PIP, no cablecard slot.
As a DLP addict, the 5087W is my 3rd generation Samsung so I compared this rendition to my 5086W and 4663W predecessors. Samsung 50" 5087W occupies almost exact same space as the 46" 4663W. However, much of the 4663W base was devoted to a sound system ...
Pros: 1080p capability. Exceptional picture quality. Lightweight. No glare. Easy to setup Cons: Bulb replacement every 3-5 years
My son is in the business. No, not the TV selling business. The video production business. When he came home for a visit he pointed out that my Television sets were old technology and not giving me the kind of picture I could get with one of the new HDTV ...
Pros: 1080P, bright screen, lots of inputs/outputs
Cons: The speakers on the set sound like tin cans. No PIP available
I just picked up the HL-S5087W, and am I ever impressed. The picture quality is incredible in comparison to any other set that I have looked at. I had been looking for a TV for sometime, and thought I would wait for a 1080P set to be somewhat future ...
Pros: Has the best picture quality on the market Cons: No Picture-in-picture
Picture Quality: I can only describe the picture quality as WONDERFUL! When comparing the TVs in the store and looking at the same video being displayed on each set, the Samsung had a clearer and brighter picture than anything else. It even had a ...
Pros: Beautiful Picture! Cons: Original defective right out of the box. Time consuming and lengthy warranty return process.
Update: The Samsung HL-S5087W replacement was delivered as Samsung promised. The picture is stunning and no gray spots appear in the screen. With my digital camera plugged into the easy access side panel, I was able to view my snapshots with ...
Pros: Picture. Picture. Picture Cons: Custom picture settings a little confusing.
This is my first HDTV. I bought this model after reading so many great reviews about it.
Even HD over the air provides a jaw dropping picture on a good Hi Def channel. Public TV HD is fantastic. Standard cable in 4:3 picture mode is not bad either, but a lot depends on the channel.
DVD's are great - get a good player if you can. I'm using an upconvert player and well recorded movies are simply amazing.
TV sound is not bad if you adjust it with the built in TV sound equalizer.
Picture is nice and bright even in bright conditions.
Pros: Outstanding picture, 2 HDMI inputs, 1080P upconverting, excellent menu layout, small footprint for screen size. Cons: Sound isn't as good as the Sony it replaced (minor point).
I compared and shopped for months before deciding on this one. As most shoppers know there isn't much content available in 1080P yet (some gaming systems and Blue Ray/Hi-Def DVD) and you can get a 720P set for less but the picture quality on this set is absolutely stunning. I find myself watching almost anything broadcast in high definition just to enjoy the picture quality. The clarity, color balance and especially the contrast ratio are as good as any plasma I've seen. Samsung's 50" 720 P DLP has a 2,500:1 contrast ratio and this set is 10,000:1. I know the manufacturers use some questionable techniques to evaluate contrast but I'm assuming Samsung used the same measurement scale for both so this should be a valid comparison. The sound quality isn't great but I use my amplifier/home theater a lot so it doesn't matter much to me.
Buy this TV! You won't regret it. I bought mine from Vanns (also great), got it in 2 days, perfect condition. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Pros: 1080P, great picture, great casing, inputs abound Cons: repairs, repairs, repairs
I've had it for just under 5 months. The lamp went in under a month and had to be replaced. For the first few months I owned it, I had it hooked up to surround sound system so didn't notice but when I used the internal speakers, it spit out static no matter which component or connection was attached. And finally, last week my color wheel started rumbling - sounds like the TV is going to explode so I'm in the process of returning it. I know that's what the warranty is for but I've had this thing for five months and have been unable to watch it for three weeks of that time.
