I purchased two of the 16 pc. sets of Sango Nova Brown dishes and love them. I was replacing a set of StudioNova dishes, which chipped almost every time I used them. The Sango dishes are heavier, and seem more durable than some I have had, and yet, not bulky like cheap dishes. The color pattern is a little different on each plate, bowl, cup, saucer, etc., and each is really beautiful. We are very happy with the set and are now looking for the coordinating serving pieces!

I, too, am writing to voice my displeasure with the Sango Nova Brown dinnerware. Like a couple of others who have posted before me, I have experienced random cracking of the dinner plates. None have been dropped or handled roughly; simply used, rinsed, put in the dishwasher and then stacked in the cabinet. Four of my eight dinner plates have cracked down the middle. None have actually broken apart but you can see the crack on both sides of the plates. The salad plates, soup bowls and coffee mugs are all fine. It's a real shame because I love the pattern but as of today, I'm going to retire these because of my concern for some sort of bacterial illness borne by the tiny cracks.

I have written Sango (they're in INDONESIA!) via e-amil to see what sort of response I get. Taking these back to the retailer is out of the question since I bought them nearly a year ago and have long lost the receipt. If Sango actually does write me back with a solution, I'll update this review at that time.

I got two sets of these in the green for my birthday about two years ago. I came to this site to see if I was the only one with spontaneously breaking dishes. So far I have lost three plates and one more I see a visible crack in. All the plates have cracked perfectly down the middle during normal use. I am very disappointed with the quality and will not buy sango again as it looks as though this is not an isolated incident.

Pros: pretty plates, we never tire of the pattern, food looks good on them
Cons: dinnerplates break for no reason, get HOT in microwave

We bought 2 sets of these dishes, and the dinnerplates cracked right down the middle for no apparent reason. Several times, we thought we heard the plates "ping" before cracking. I have called Sango and left a message. I hope they will be responsive.
Of 8 dinnerplates, we have 2 left. We are eating on pie plates and brownie pans until this is solved.(How sad is that?) I hesitate to replace them with new dishes, because at this point we have all the serveware and bowls, etc. matching. Yes, they do get HOT in the microwave! I will write back to let you know if they respond.

This set is absolutely beautiful. We bought two 16 piece sets and 3 plates a cup and a bowl were broken in the box. Either we had just some bad luck or this set will break easily. However, I love the look and will keep it (getting replacements from the store we bought them from). It is perfect for both casual and formal dining.

Pros: Responsive customer service, replaced my broken plates at no charge and with no quibbling.
Cons: I wish the plates wouldn't break in the first place, but I love the pattern.

I posted earlier about my unhappiness with my spontaneously cracking plates. Well, after a focused Internet search, I finally got the contact information for the domestic Sango branch that is responsible for the Nova pattern.

Customer service was VERY responsive and sent me replacement plates for the ones that had broken - at no charge. The representative said that when they had first heard of this happening, they investigated the manufacturing process. They found that occassionally a batch will not be fired properly and this is what causes the hairline cracks down the center of the plates.

She apoligized for any inconvenience this caused me and told me that I should contact them immediately if any additional plates break so Sango can send me replacements.

I'd rather not have to deal with breaking plates, but it is nice they are responsive with replacing them. I just wish it was easier to find their customer service in the first place. I think most people gave up before reaching customer service...

Pros: The look
Cons: The dangers of oils oozing from the cracks in the enamel.

This product is terrible! I bought it because I liked the looked and thought it would be good for everyday use. All the dishes have permanent stains from being run through the dishwasher, the glossy enamel has cracked, and I see oil oozing from these cracks when the plates come out of the hot dishwasher or from being warmed in the oven. No food borne illnesses yet, but they are no longer in my cupboard. Who knows what's living in these cracks that hold oil/grease? Thank goodness I'm not heavily invested with pieces - no more Sango for me!...Watch out! Look carefully, and you will see these cracks - heck, you may even hear them ping!

We had these functional and stylish dishes on our wedding registry, and were happy when we received a full set for our new home. 2 years in into our marriage our relationship is stronger, but the plates are falling apart like Britney Spears first wedding. Like another review on this website, one time my wife plated a hot meal and was walking it to the table and the plate popped in two right in her hand. Again, like other reviews here, they ping and chip and break frequently. Considering the price, and considering I grew up eating off the same plates for 19 years in my parents home, it's frustrating and eye-opening to see how bad a product these plates are.

Cons: break easily, get freakishly hot in microwave despite saying they're safe

We got these dishes as wedding presents and now the ones that haven't broken are sitting in the cabinets unused. My husband was using a mug the other day and the handle broke clean off. Fortunately, it had cold cottage cheese in it and not a steaming hot beverage, as he could have been hurt. We have had 2 dessert bowls shatter under normal use, and quite a few mugs' handles have broken off. Plates have chipped with gentle use, and any piece we put in the microwave for even 30 seconds becomes scalding hot -- too hot to even touch with bare hands. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone!

My wife and I loved the neutral tones of this dinner ware, and bought the complete set (& accessories) plus some. However over time 6 of the small plates, 3 of the large plates, and 2 of the bowls have not survived (8 place setting). The kicker here is that we have only had these plates for 2 years. Even more, these breaks have come due to hot meals or other temperature issues. The plates claim to be microwavable and dishwasher safe, however this doesn't seem to be the case.

In one instance, we served spaghetti one night and when we plated the meal on one of the large plates, it cracked in half!!! Out of the 11 items that have cracked and broken, we can only claim one as to be our faults.

We may have just received a bad manufactured batch, but I don't think that this is the case. You be the judge.
