Pros: Smooth, refreshing, no adjuncts Cons: Too light bodied for some beer enthusiasts
Beers like Budweiser, Miller, and Coors get a bad rap among craft beer enthusiasts. They crowd the shelves and take up space that could be used for more microbrews, some say. They hold an inordinate amount of the beer market, say others. And they just...

Pros: versatile, won't offend the palates of most beer drinkers Cons: bland taste dominated by carbonation
I was surprised when I went to my local beer distributor recently and came across the same sampler pack of Saranac beer from The Matt Brewing Company that Id found about a month before at a smaller supermarket. This is probably an indicator that ...

Pros: N/A Cons: Cheap stuff from a decent brewery
Saranac beers are produced by the Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY. The brewery also produces a wide range of contract brews. Dating back to the 1880s, like many other traditional American breweries it was founded by a German immigrant. My only...

Pros: Taste Cons: Hard to find
Seldomly you find a beer that tastes so good you forget your drinking beer. Saranac is certainly one of those beers. Personally I prefer a good Lager over any other type of beer and this particular beer rates quite high to what I have had.

Pros: amber color, yeast smell, malt flavor Cons: poor carbonation
Here is a great beer that novice drinkers of microbrews should start with. Very easy to drink with no real bad aftertastes like the "Lawnmower beers" have (e.g. Budweiser, Coors, Miller, etc.). This beer starts with a very pungent, yet...

Pros: Wonderful taste. Cons: Harder to find.
I used to be into very dark beers. Heavy, thick, and dark like the moon on a moonless night.
For some inexplicable reason, though probably a concussion, my tastes changed. Dark beers no longer had the same attraction. It was at this time that I...
