All American Beer

by Bruguru Bruguru is a Lead on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Dec 06 '00
Pros: Smooth, refreshing, no adjuncts
Cons: Too light bodied for some beer enthusiasts
Beers like Budweiser, Miller, and Coors get a bad rap among craft beer enthusiasts. They crowd the shelves and take up space that could be used for more microbrews, some say. They hold an inordinate amount of the beer market, say others. And they just...

Saranac Traditional Lager - Just Your Average American Lager

by AliventiAsylum Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jun 25 '05
Pros: versatile, won't offend the palates of most beer drinkers
Cons: bland taste dominated by carbonation
I was surprised when I went to my local beer distributor recently and came across the same sampler pack of Saranac beer from The Matt Brewing Company that I’d found about a month before at a smaller supermarket. This is probably an indicator that ...

Traditonal, Bland, and Boring

by andaryl Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 07 '03
Pros: N/A
Cons: Cheap stuff from a decent brewery
Saranac beers are produced by the Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY. The brewery also produces a wide range of contract brews. Dating back to the 1880’s, like many other traditional American breweries it was founded by a German immigrant. My only...

Twelve Saranac Beers of Xmas #10 - Traditional Lager

by martytdx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 30 '03
Pros: Decent lager with consistent taste
Cons: Not the best, not the worst - nothing distinctive
"On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love was getting a little tired of the giving thing, and said "Get your own darn beer." • about SARANAC • Saranac beers are brewed by the Matt Brewing Company, a ...

A Higher Rung on the Ladder

by fuche_bu Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 25 '00
Pros: a clean, crisp, thirst quenching beer
Cons: a bit on the light side for the beer geek
I have dedicated a generous portion of my life to the pursuit of good beer. Let me correct myself. I am really on a quest for great beer. I am always hoping to try something new that will set my palate on fire. The hope springs eternal that some...

Don't just feel good, get drunk!

by Hotrodtele , Aug 30 '00
Pros: Taste
Cons: Hard to find
Seldomly you find a beer that tastes so good you forget your drinking beer. Saranac is certainly one of those beers. Personally I prefer a good Lager over any other type of beer and this particular beer rates quite high to what I have had.

Great for beginning beer tasters

by stewtowser , Aug 20 '00
Pros: amber color, yeast smell, malt flavor
Cons: poor carbonation
Here is a great beer that novice drinkers of microbrews should start with. Very easy to drink with no real bad aftertastes like the "Lawnmower beers" have (e.g. Budweiser, Coors, Miller, etc.). This beer starts with a very pungent, yet...

for the hop head

by Scott_A_R , Dec 14 '00
Pros: Wonderful taste.
Cons: Harder to find.
I used to be into very dark beers. Heavy, thick, and dark like the moon on a moonless night.
For some inexplicable reason, though probably a concussion, my tastes changed. Dark beers no longer had the same attraction. It was at this time that I...
