Pros: Very Affordable, Light weight, Attractive styling Cons: Some components need upgrading.
My girlfriend and I recently decided to take on a sport together so we thought I should get a Mountain Bike to accompany her on rides around the various trails available. Our first thought was a local specialty bike shop but I know about the current ...
Pros: Durable, long lasting, multipurpose, and fun to ride. Cons: It's a bit heavy and cheap componets like grips and pedals will need replaced.
I received my Sidewinder about 4 years ago for about $180. I've read plenty of reviews about this bike saying what a crappy cheap piece of garbage it is, but I've really enjoyed this bike. It's a tad heavy but that's because it's got a steel frame. Also ...
Pros: Front Suspension, good parts, minimum repairs, rides nice Cons: not a good trail bike, a bit heavy
I once owned a women's schwinn sidewinder 2.6 FS, and I have to say that compared to all of the other department store bikes that I've bought, it was a really great bike. It was lighter than the other bikes, and it was really comfortable. I even did a 50 ...
Pros: Cheap, strong frame, non-2.6FS (more dark grey) looks cool, easy to maintain/upgrade parts. Cons: heavy frame (stock 42 lbs), most components plastic, cheap parts, replace most parts
This review is written from the perspective of an avid off-road cyclist. I have the non-2.6FS version but there was no page for it, plus the pic on this page is the pic of my bike which is not the 2.6FS. This bike is an ok bike. It's not great and it's ...
Pros: I like the style of the bicycle, and its beefy construction. Cons: Concerns: Seat, plastic gear-guard
I currently reside in Longmont, CO, and work in Boulder, a 12 mile commute. I am definitely NOT looking for a 25 mile round trip bicycle, but one that I can commute to the RTD bus stop(s) near my home. I was in a Wal-Mart this evening, and saw what ...
Pros: Price Cons: Not very rugged. Spokes break and tires warp at will.
I just went on line to try to find a replacement rear wheel for my Sidewinder and I noticed a review by another cyclist who had the same problem I have. I thought it was just me. I am somewhat happy to see that it is not me. But on the other side, I am ...
Having put 600 miles on mine since I purchased it last month, I can only recommend this bike for short commutes and leisurely, casual rides. A 'mountain bike' by design, perhaps, but low-grade parts added on to a very heavy frame cancels out applying ...
My wife bought us a pair of the Sidewinders for Christmas back in 2005. I grew up believing in the Schwinn quality, and thought it would be a good bike. Don't believe it. You get what you pay for. I hardly rode the bike the first year, and in season, ...
Schwinn Sidewinder 2.6fs 26" ATB by gc208b ,Sep 16 '03
Pros: Oversized steel frame, Shimano components, SRAM Grip Shifters, RST Front Suspension, Wheels, Crank, Gear ratio. Cons: The seat is small and uncomfortable.
I like the oversized steel frame look and the high quality paint job. I like how the frame is stiff and strong. Good weld points too.
Great price, good quality! by rickster85 ,Aug 23 '04
Pros: Cheap, quality, hill climbing, speed, shifting, handling Cons: Seat is narrow, the handle grips like to slide off just a little bit
Well I'm a college student that needs this bike everyday and I guarantee nobody will be putting this bike through as much as I will be doing. So far its held up great. I will be getting a different seat as the one that comes with it is narrow and too firm. Other than that, it shifts great, brakes great, goes up hills awesome, and has a decent ride considering the seat.
There will be a few things I get for it. First is a set of chrome fenders because I cannot have my clothes get when should I have to drive through a puddle. Also I will probably get some sort of speedometer to track my miles. And finally a better, wider, softer seat for the long rides to my car.
I would definitely recommend the bike to anyone. The quality is a LOT better than the other bikes at Wal-mart. Even the more expensive ones.
Pros: Smooth shifting, looks good, good price, front shock, good brand Cons: SEAT SUCKS
Maybe I'm being a bit premature here, but so far I really like this bike. I've taken it on 3 10-mile rides and had only one problem- the seat. It's very uncomfortable, and I have no idea who did the testing on it, but they must have been severely and repeatedly spanked as a child to find that thing even bearable. So I replaced that and now it's great. It shifts smoothly, brakes quickly, and gets me to where I need to go. Plus it looks pretty good, and the price was right. All in all, 4 out of 5 stars, the one removed being for the $20 extra I had to spend on the seat, but really, another 20 dollars on top of the great price is not too pricey still. So scratch the 4- I'm giving it 5 out of 5 stars. I'm taking it on another 10-miler tonight, so I'll let you know if I change my mind.
Pros: Very reliable Cons: The only cons I have is the pedals and kick stand
I bought this bicycle from WalMart about 7 years ago.Never a problem with the quality or performance. The only thing I've replaced is 1 tire and maybe 3 tubes.Maybe that's because of the perventative maintanince I performed on it,but that goes with anything.I think I paid about $130 for it in 2001.After about 10,000 miles on it it still runs almost like a new broken in bicycle.I'll probably have to replace the crank on it soon.No spoke problems,no rust problems,no shifting or braking problems.Very few flats(all on rear wheel)Extremlly easy bicycle to maintain and work on.Looking forward to upgrading to a Le Tour GS within the next year or so.Highly recommend for a affordable bike
Pros: Quick release front wheel, very cool looking, has features not usually found at this price. Cons: The plastic chainwheel probably wont last.
I have the women's version (and it is a very cool purple :-) This bike rides great! It seems to be well built and was put together properly. I bought it because I have short legs (29" inseam) and this frame was the only bike I found that fit me at this price--otherwise I would have to spend over $200 at a bike store. The components are quality (Shimano gears) except for the crankset. I expect I will be replacing that but other than that, its a wonderful bike for the price!
