Pros: Inexpensive; huge storage; quiet; cool; simple Cons: My computer will not boot if the drive is attached.
My wife is a major Photoshop junkie and I've recently gotten interested in making HD videos, and both of these demand lots of storage space. To give us some digital elbow room, we recently got a Seagate FreeAgent Desk ST31500FDA 1.5 TB external ...
Pros: Inexpensive, easy set up and operation Cons: The mixed nature of the reviews cannot safely be completely ignored.
Unlike the human mind, computer memory is pretty much unlimited in its capacity. A large external back-up drive makes it possible to store everything, safely, ‘outside the box' ... Just in case. The Seagate Free Agent is a very good option. ...

Pros: Attractive price, nice looking. That's about all I can think of. Cons: Not compatible with MAC. Worked a week. Lousy "live chat"
Bought mine at onsale at a nationally known membership buying store. While the price was attractive, there was nothing in the store or the Seagate package would indicate that it was not Mac compatible. Luckily, I still have some PCs in the house that run ...
Backup software is NOT compatible with x64 bit O/S!!! by nymsreviewer ,Apr 15 '09
Pros: Great price, attractive case, and simple to hook-up out-of-the-box. Cons: EXTREMELY slow on Windows Vista x64. Seagate's backup software is NOT x64 bit compatible.
Purchased my Seagate FreeAgent 1.5TB USB last night and it's all boxed up and will be returned to the store tonight.
First, it was EXTREMELY slow. I'd be better off uploading and downloading backups online.
I have Win Vista x64 O/S and found that Seagate's backup software package is not compatible with x64 bit systems. Note: no warning of this caveat listed on the packaging. I checked online at the Seagate site to find they don't have a x64-bit compatible version. Are you kidding me??? Is Seagate planning to lag technology?
Bottom-line. Bye-bye Seagate. I'll go back to sticking with only Western Digital drives which haven't given me any problems whatsoever. I've had problems with: Maxtor, SimpleTech, and now Seagate harddrives. Have never experienced issues with any of my three current WD harddrives.
If you don't plan on jumping the technology bandwagon (x64 O/S), then maybe this is an acceptable drive. I cannot comment on performance using an older x32 bit technology system.
