Pros: Fairly easy to use and effective Cons: Not foolproof and requires some instruction
Panic set in as we moved into our new house. We moved in with a 5 year old son - who could easily move between levels in our house with safety. Here I was pregnant with our second child and worried about how I would keep a smaller child safe from ...
Pros: They definitely work. Cons: Difficult for arthritics to open.
I never really thought about doorknob covers until one mother told me a story about her child locking himself in a room. Young children know how to get themselves into trouble, but not how to get out of trouble. So, I decided, along with all the ...
Pros: They give the appearance of caring parenting and baby-proofing to any would-be Safety Nazis. Cons: My six-year-old let the ignorant Safety Nazi out of the house (not really a con…).
Safety 1st isn’t the end-all-be-all in home safety products, in my opinion, but it sure goes a long way in giving the pretense of child-proofing to anyone making a home study. Long story short: For almost a year, I had a knockdown drag-out with ...
Pros: My son probably built some synapes during his 15 minute struggle with these covers Cons: They don't work
Bud-Bud is a typical little brother, I guess. He spends his day following his big sisters doing everything in his power to annoy them. To try to give them some privacy, I put a Safety 1st Secure Grip Door Knob Covers on the door knob to their ...
Pros: Deterrent, Faster than unlocking with a key, Can keep younger ones out of danger. Cons: Child will figure out, Not effective on all doors, Hard for some adults
My inspiration for writing this review came after my two-year-old opened the front door equipped with the Safety 1st Door Knob Cover and let the dog out yesterday while she looked back at me and giggled. Well they worked for awhile anyway. The ...
Pros: affordable, easy to find Cons: flimsy, easy for child to figure out, not effective
Being a concerned parent, and worried about my child letting himself out of the front door, I browsed the child safety aisle and thought I found the perfect item to lay my concern to rest. I purchased the Safety 1st Secure Grip Door Knob Covers, which ...
Pros: Seems to be working. Cons: Pain in the neck.
This round cover comes in 2 pieces which snap together and has grips on either side. While I find them extremely annoying, they seem to be working. Not only for my 2 year old son and 4 year old niece, but they have also thwarted the apartment maintenanc ...
Pros: None Cons: Did not work for our 17 Month Old
It seems that these door knob covers are NOT up to the job. They are meant to open for an adult by squeezing pressure points on either side of the cover. This engages the actual handle via internal rubber pads and turning the cover opens the door....
Pros: None Cons: They don't work - plain and simple.
So I wandered about Babies R Us the other evening in search of a way to keep my toddlers (twin boys, 21 months old) from escaping their bedroom at night. We had a baby gate up but I wanted something easier (and something I wouldn't fall over!). I saw ...
Pros: May work in theory. Cons: Didn't work for our 16 month old.
Once we put it on we decided that it wasn't going to work. All our 16 month old would have to do is pull down on the door handle and it would open right up. Being that we're talking about short people their going to do just that pull down while trying to...
Not the best out there... by saras_mommy ,Nov 08 '03
Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Don't really work, Clunky
I found that these door knob covers were a waste of money to me. We only bought 2.. one for the pantry and one for the bedroom (so daughter cant get out while we are all sleeping)...
She figured them out in less than a week. All she had to do was hang on the door knob and put enough pressure on the cover, and presto, it was opened.
I also found them to be a pain to put on (my husband took over that). They can also be inconvenient when your hands are full and you need to open that particular door to exit a room - they can "parent-proof" in such situations! : )
All in all, these are a good concept, but do not work for our family.
Some adults can't figure them out. by jacintx ,Feb 28 '04
Pros: Working so far. Cons: Annoying and tacky looking.
We have too many of these in our house thanks to my husband the engineer. My son cannot grasp the doorknob with enough strength to open the doors as of yet so they are serving their purpose. There are a lot of adults who also cannot seem to get the doors open either. They certainly don't add to your decor either!
My 2 year old puts his little index finger behind the cover and pulls hard and presto the cover is in 2 on the floor and he is out the front door, in the bathroom, in the closet, where ever he wants to go.
Pros: It kept 2-year-old out of rooms for a while. Cons: Easy for toddler to pull apart.
I can't fully endorse this product...because it only took a short while before my 2-year-old learned how to pop apart the two halves of this door knob lock. Now, I'm looking for different solutions.
Pros: Helps for a short period of time. Depending on how inquisitive your little one is. Cons: My little one can squeeze both sides of the cover and open the door! SCARY!
My 18 month old figured out how to open the door with this product on the door knob. I have tried another brand, and within 2 weeks, he figured that one out too. He often shows his grandparents, who come to visit, how to open the door.I think they should let him try out the products, before they market them. If he can't figure it out.....I'll buy it!
