Pros: No poking springs. No sagging as it gets older. Cons: A little pricey, but worth it!
We bought our first Select Comfort bed over 10 years ago and it is still wonderful. Since then we have purchased 2 more. Will never buy a regular mattress again.
Sleep Number Bed Avoid it due to poor construction by disapointedin ,Jan 20 '09
Pros: The bed functioned ok initally. I wish it was as durable as the people advertise. Cons: Poor customer service and extremely poor construction of the bed.
Initally the bed was OK, then it strated leaking air. When we contacted the store we puchased from we were told to call customer service and that we had to determine where the aid leak was so we could BUY the correct parts. Both my wife and are are near 60 and not in the best of health. The store was quite happy to take our money but not offer any service dispite our pleas. The matress cover ripped and was not covered by warranty.
Sleep Number - Lots of Warranty Required by comt ,Sep 19 '08
Pros: Comfortable bed for 6-12 months before body indentions and repairs are required Cons: Foam pad, pillowtop, and remote control require replacement
I've owned a sleep number bed for about 5 years. I've had to replace the foam pad (poor quality resulted in body indentions in 18 months) and the remote control (LCD display quit working). The pillowtop cover also has severe body indentions and now needs to also be replace. While Sleep Number warrants their product, you pay a pro-rated fee plus shipping. This bed has required about $75 per year to maintain. Who has ever heard of maintenance fees for a bed?!

Pros: Two different settings between soft and firm Cons: Sinks in the middle and zipper breaks, what 20 year warranty
I bought a pillow top Queen size sleep number bed two years ago. Before one year of having it, I figured it is the worst thing I ever invested in. The middle sinks. The zipper breaks(remind you this is only two year old mattress). I called the manufacture to replace the material with the zipper on it, and they told me $645. What happen to the 20 year warranty. It's not like I sat there and pulled at this stupid zipper. All I did is put it together like the directions told me. All was in tack. Over two year period the zipper has come apart. And now they won't replace it unless I give them $645. Trust me, you will loose sleep like I did. Do not buy this bed.
Pros: None Cons: Pain to put together. Customer service jerks you around.
If you want a good mattress save yourself time and money and do not purchase this mattress. The dual chambers they so highly promote are a joke. They don't tell you when you get them that if there is a difference in your sleep #'s that you will slide down in to what my husband calls "the nest." I contacted Select Comfort AT LEAST 10 times. I even called the manager at the store where I bought it from. I got a different answer on how to remedy this situation every time. They refused to refund my money because it was outside of the 30 days. They sent different pieces to help with the comfort level! What a joke. I finally had to call the Better Business Bureau before I got anything resolved. To make a long story short, the bed has been returned and the account credited! I would rather sleep on the floor!
An Big Expensive Mistake by martinezann ,Jan 14 '06
Pros: NONE Cons: The most expensive piece of crap
The purchase of this bed has been the biggest purchase mistake we have ever made. I purchased this bed after hearing all ranting advertisements and decided that it was time we get a very comfortable nights rest. It has been the worst bed I have ever owned. I kept it longer than the 30 day trial to give it a chance and it has never lived up to what it claimed to be. I passionately hate the middle foam piece in the king we got. The side foam pieces are a joke. I recently purchased a memory foam topper for this piece of crap and I tell you I have slept better on the memory foam than I have in the three years that I have had it this mistake
Pros: love to sleep on the bed Cons: pump is trashed it runs on its own
Would not replace faulty pump after 28 months without charging a fee and shipping charges both directions. what a joke. We reported a problem with the pump before the two year warranty was up they have no record of the phone call. The pump will pump up to 80 one day and be at 20 that night. it will pump for no reason at odd times. It needs to be replaced.
Select comfort told us that for 150.00 they would replace it. This was reported before the warranty was up. Now they also tell us that the warranty started form the date purchased not when they delivered it 1 month later. How can the warranty start on something you do not even have yet?
I love the bed but would never consider buying anything from SELECT COMFORT again
Pros: The bed was comfortable until it started losing air. Cons: Select Comfort makes the owner diagnose leakages. Warranty isn't worth anything.
From my point of view if I spend a whole lot of money for a product, I expect the service while the product is under warranty to be excellent. When I bought my bed a year ago I also paid for delivery and setup. Both sides of the king size bed started to lose air. Select Comfort would not send someone, even though I offered to pay, out to service the bed. The bed was under full warranty for two years. I was expected to take the bed apart, and diagnose the problem by filling the mattress and then putting a plug in it. Now of course that means taking the mattress apart. Also I did not have any plugs. Eventually select comfort sent plugs. By then I was fed up and bought another bed. When I took the bed apart to throw the bed out the fastener on one of the tubes broke off. Looked like a cheap piece of plastic. I thought for a premium price they could have offered better service. I will not ever buy a bed from them again.
Helped my low back pain beyond expectation! by muskrat897 ,May 08 '07
Pros: A back saver Cons: A bit pricey, but well worth it!!!!!
I became disabled 5 years ago. I have been confined to a wheelchair ever since. Unfortunately, wheelchair use can cause extreme low back pain. I have gone through epidural injections and the use of oral pain killers. I have had my Sleep Number bed for almost a month and my back, though not totally relieved, felt 90% better from the first night. Yes, it may be over-priced, but for me, it is a lifesaver.
Pros: Loved it at first Cons: Mold 3 times found. Not holding up very well, saggy looking
When we first purchased our bed I was very excited. It was a bit of work for my husband to put together. That said my biggest problem with the bed is the mold. we have had to replace the inside of the bed two times already. And guess what, there is mold in our bed AGAIN. I am sure they will replace the inside for free again, but what happens when the warranty runs out? Our bed is also getting saggy looking. I end up in the middle. We have had our bed I think 5 years now and I am Just a little disappointed with the amount of money we spent that it hasn't held up better.
We are moving on after the latest find of mold. I should also mention that we live in Florida and we do have high humidity.
Don't Waste your Money on these beds by lace3115 ,May 25 '07
Pros: Actually I have no pros. Cons: Very uncomfortable for people with back problems. Hard to get out of.
We bought the queen size sleep number bed. It's like sleeping on a twin mattress because their are two blow up mattresses on the inside of the bed. Much smaller than a actual queen mattress. And as another reviewer said, do not damage your controllers. We had a damaged controller, cost $250 for new controllers+pump(the only way they will sell you a new controller) plus they want you to send back the old pump and controllers so they can refurbish and resell again, again and again! And if you don't send back the pump and controllers that you have already paid for they will charge you another $200 for that!!!! I am very unsatisfied with this product and the service. I received very unhelpful service when I called about the old pump being sent back. Bed is not easy to get out of if you have it on a low number to ease your back pain. Foam pieces move and shift and become distorted over time, making the sides sag.
Sleeping trip through hell by sweetkerry1969 ,Apr 21 '07
Pros: Nothing. Absolutely nothing positive. Cons: Price is insane.
This 5000 bed is an absolute waste of money and a disaster to a new marriage. My husband bought it and slept on it a year before we got married and really liked it -- until he had to share it and the air pockets started to shift around.
I still feel like I am sleeping on one of those little air mattresses at summer camp.
I do have to mention that my lower back is fused due to a bicycle accident. I have a lot of metal rods and pins and cages holding my lower back together. This bed is supposed to be supportive?!? Yeah, right. And twenty years later I still look like I'm 18.
We're selling the whole set at next weekend's yard sale. I'd PAY someone to take it away. What a disaster. And as far as having sex on this bed?!? Let's just say our floor gets a lot more action than the air mattresses.
Not worth the money AT ALL - GLORIFIED AIR MATTRESS by dscarlett ,Mar 15 '09
Pros: NONE Cons: Everything: the cost, the fact that I have to inflate and deflate all the time
I purchased this bed when I was 8 months pregnant - anything would have been better than the mattress I was sleeping on. I have had the bed now for about 18 months and it is a huge pain in the you know what.
I am now single and I have no idea if it is because I don't have someone sleeping next to me, but I roll into the middle at all times. The air is all on the outside edge of the mattress and I sink into the middle of the bed. When I deflate to 35 it goes up to 50 - it is a piece of crap. I am completely disappointed and will be trying to salvage something when trying to sell it on Craigslist.
I absolutely HATE this mattress. I would NEVER purchase this glorified airmattress again!
Pros: They really make some great promises. Sales department is capable of selling. Cons: I don't post comments on the internet but my disappointment could save you some heartache.
Truly dissapointed. They sold it with all the usual promises. That's where it ended. Took eight weeks and three different install crews to get all the parts right to complete the bed. My back hurt from sleeping in my old bed and it continues to date in the sleep number bed. we never received the discounts promised. No "36 months intrest free", No service after the sale, No return calls from sales manager. I dont reccommend this company or the sleep number bed. My wife now sleeps with back pain which she did not have before. Some how they were able to issue credit in my name without authorization. My wifes name was used when we applied for the credit and my name was used as a contact person for delivery. I should have listened to all the clues.
KSTP TV in ST Paul, MN just did an expose on the the growth of mold in these type beds. Select Comfort replied, on air, that "all beds have mold in them". But looking at the air chamber, the foam pads etc as they displayed them would not be how my bed should be.
Select Comfort's recommendation is to use a clorine solution and wipe it up periodically.
