Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 5000 by kyliedog ,Jun 05 '09
Pros: Good concept with the dual comfort areas. Cons: BLACK MOLD Middle lump No pump, no bed too expensive DON'T BUY ONE
My wife talked me into this bed system and frankly it made no difference in my back or knee pain and no difference at all in my sleep. We rarely use the pump and when it failed to work the first time, I tiik the bed apart only to find BLACK MOLD everywhere. I called the company who said they would replace the affected parts only and not the pump. They knew about the MOLD problem but failed to inform us that this was COMMON. I think that that in and of itself is downright dishonest and immoral. I proceeded to read them the riot act and said that they would replace the entire bed and the pump. They finally agreed but we were without a bed for about two weeks. I wish I could return the bed for a full refund. I would never ever by another glorified air mattress again!!!
Pros: None Cons: This mattress is poorly made. Air pump is loud. Leaks slowly over time.
I tried this mattress 3 times mind you... from the lowest priced to their most expensive... all 3 were constructed the same and cheap!
Better off spending the money on a spring mattress, yes people a "spring mattress"... they have come a long way in the last 10 years or so. Me and the wife drove over to Sleepy's and purchased a Serta! I sleep on my back and quess what!! I wake up that why in the morning... go figure! And get this Sleepy's use to carry this junk in which they could no longer look stupid so they told them to hit the road.... The End.
Pros: Great on my back, wife and I love it, so do the animals! Cons: A little too light.
I have had my Sleep Number bed since June of 2000. Eight months previously I had a large tumor removed from my damaged spine. I had been hit by a car. Ever since I have had my bed I have had the best sleep of my life. I definitely recommend this bed and do not be cheap, you are going to sleep on it for awhile.
As another reviewer noted, the store salespeople were very attentive...until I had a problem. Select comfort has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I suffer from extreme back & neck pain, which wasn't relieved by the mattress. I called customer service 3 days prior to the trial period expiration. They sent out some foam pads to try. When I called to report that they hadn't worked, they told me I could no longer return the mattress...it was too late! Incidentally, I found out this happened to a friend, also. Upon calling my sales clerk, she agreed to check into the matter. I've never heard from her. They made their money & their promises are empty. I hope my sale was worth the loss of many , as I have discouraged at least 6 other people from purchasing them. Bad news travels fast. I am in a service business & wouldn't think of treating my clients that way.
Worst purchasing decision I ever made by expressive ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: None. Cons: Lack of comfort, bad technology.
This is the most expensive piece of junk I ever bought. For some reason that I can still not figure out the beds on the showroom are comfortable for the short period of time you spend on them. I bought the queen dual sided bed and have had nothing but back and neck problems since.
This bed has every problem in the book. It looses pressure, has the hammock effect and the gutter effect, you name it. you can't sleep on the side because you roll into the middle and can't sleep in the middle because the pressure is uneven and you need to pump it back to the right pressure every so often.
Please don't buy from these guys. I lost my money but if I can save even one of you from this scam it would be worth writing this review.
It is bad enough that I might just throw it in the trash and write it off as big mistake. Even then I am sure I would feel robbed for a good long time.
Pros: Great for back pain & adjustable firmness for each partner Cons: The foam frame smells bad for the first week
For the past year I have been having backaches every night when sleeping, especially sleeping flat on my back. Doctors said I have a torn disc in my lower back but there's nothing they can do besides giving me medications. I've tried several different mattresses and none worked for me. Finally we gave the Sleep Number 4000 mattress a try... the result is AMAZING. The pain is gone! And the other great thing is that my husband doesn't have to adjust his comfort level to suit mine since he can adjust his own firmness while I have mine.
This is the best mattress we have ever had!! by shermac ,Oct 25 '05
Pros: Nice quality, we sleep all night! Cons: The price is kind of high.
My husband has had back problems for the last few years.
He does carpenter work for a living and that makes his back even worse. He heard an ad on the Paul Harvey show and we called and got the free video. Then the store that sent the video called and wanted to know if we wanted to order a bed. They were very helpful and answered a lot of our questions. So we took the plunge, it is a lot of money, but my husband sleeps all night and feels good in the morning, that is all that matters!! We love this bed and have had no problems with it!! Thanks Select Comfort!
Select Comfort - Best Bed and Customer Support by bt53 ,Oct 26 '05
Pros: Easy to change sheets. Great Customer Support. Great comfort support with two people. Cons: Little pricy expecially if you are only buying one of the mattresses.
Couldn't ask for a better bed. Have owned for 5 years. Have a cal-king and never know that there is someone else with you. Mine is in a platform bed so only the top mattress was purchased. Easy to change and maintain. I unzip mine each year just to fluff up the inside pieces and to make sure everything is still aligned. This year I opened it up to air out everything and noticed a problem. Contacted customer support and they sent me replacement pieces within 5 days. Couldn't ask for a better bed or customer service. I would recommend this bed to anyone. I prefer mine without the fancy toppers and add my own memory foam to the top for added comfort.
Air Pressure Not Consistent by sch7071 ,Mar 10 '09
Pros: Super easy setup, seems to be durable Cons: Sleep number will not stay at what we set it to!
I will make this short and sweet. I am currently in a 30-day trial period with a king size sleep number 5000. When my husband and I get in bed and set our sleep number 45/65 we find that our number slowly rises to 80 or above during the night and we wake up with a backache. Has anyone had that happen? We have it plugged into a surge protector but not sure why it happens. Also, we were told to fill it to 100 when we are not using it but we then find that when we go to set it at night, it seems to have lost air pressure. Not sure what on earth is going on with it. Has anyone else experienced this?
Pros: Dual chambers, adjustable number to your liking. Cons: Sags into a trench when sleeping next spouse, when kidssleepwith you or sitatedge of bed.
It seemed like a great buy and finally a good bed until...6 months later and now, it sags ALL the TIME, you cannot sit on the edges, it is NOT family oriented nor couple. Sure it has dual chambers BUT if you decide to snuggle next to your spouse the air shifts so you find yourselves in a trench. You feel EVERY move your spouse does on their side and finally if you have kids the mattress sags completly..never had a water bed, but it sure feels like one. We end up with lack of sleep, neck and back pains, headaches. By far our most expensive mistake!
Dissatisfaction. Unable to Sleep. by holomakani ,Jun 01 '09
Pros: There are no pros. Cons: The bed does not retain it's "sleep number". The mattress becomes overheated throughout the night.
The bed does not retain it's "sleep number". It fluctuates between a range of 40 to 85 without regard to what number the control is set. It loses it's loft to the extent that it causes interruption in sleep. Although the bed is located in a cool climate the temperature on the bed increases throughout the night, causing more interruption of sleep. Select Comfort was not helpful in resolving these issues. My only option is to deliver the bed to the dump.
Perfect solution for my wife and me by trouttdawg ,Jul 20 '06
Pros: 2 completely separate sleep surfaces. Cons: The price. Seems like their materials' cost might be $300-400 to make this bed.
I was perfectly fine with my 8" memory foam pillow top. It was like sleeping on a cloud, but my wife's idea of a good nights sleep is on a board. Enter the Sleep Number 5000. I am not as comfortable as I was on my memory foam pillow top, but her hole word has changed for the better. If there was one thing I could do differently, I would have held out for the 7000 or 9000. Even though they have thicker pillow tops, you can still make the sleeping surface very firm. Bottom line, it offers a good compromise between 2 sleep surface opinions.
Anyone with at least an IQ of 20 can assemble this thing. Read the directions, you won't have a problem.
Wish the adjustments went 1-100, not 5-100 by 5's
Sleep Number 5000 King Size by atvpitchick ,Apr 13 '06
Pros: Comfort and easy adjustment Cons: None
We purchased this bed in January of this year and COULDN'T be happier. This is the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on, and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. The set up was easy and took us less then an hour (so don't pay them the $$ to set it up). At first the pump they sent out to us was VERY loud, and I called to customer service and they immediately shipped out a replacement with an RMA. Everyone seems to say how poor the customer service is, but just remember, you must treat people how YOU want to be treated, and seeing how so many people are upset with the bed itself, I can see how they would take it out on the customer service rep. The King Size pillow top bed is the way to go! Two thumbs up!
Pros: pretty easy to move, like the dual controls Cons: foam pad went bad, and the pump went bad
We have had some problems with our bed. Now that the pump went out, I had no idea that there was not a full warranty. I can't believe we have to pay for a new pump.
Pros: The bed when it's level is not too bad to sleep on. Cons: Their customer service is as bad as I have ever experienced.
Sleep Company is not a consumer oriented company. I would advise everyone not to buy this product. This company will not provide any service if there is a problem with the bed. My bed tilts to one side because the top slips to the side and is not supported. It has to be set back on the bottom part each morning. The company told me to go to a hardware store and get rug grip and put between the two sections. When I asked them to do that they refused to come and look at the bed. When I asked them to take the bed back within the 30 trial period they wanted $199.00 to do that. When I asked them what they would do if the bed leaked air there was no reply. I would advise everyone not but deal in any way with the company.
