Pros: excellent sound; really comfortable; look nice; relatively inexpensive Cons: will the plastic hold up long-term? is the bass shelved down?
A friend recently invited me into the studio to record some guitar tracks for an Irish music project he was working on. I grabbed my Larrivee LS-05 acoustic guitar and played three tunes for the project, and then did some over-dubs, playing over guitar ...
Pros: Excellent sound quality, construction, and comfort. Price. Noise blocking. Cons: Slightly quirky appearance, ear cups can get a bit warm with extended use.

Pros: Exceptional sound, comfortable, built to last Cons: A bit pricey

Pros: Accurate sound, versatile swiveling/folding feature Cons: Not as "detailed" or "airy" as higher-priced headphones
I've tried various closed-back full-size headphones that cost up to $200 from mass-market brands such as Sony, and I was almost universally disappointed in them. So I went to a Virgin Megastore and plopped down $99.95 plus tax for a pair of Sennheiser HD...
Pros: Great sound, replaceable parts, comfortable to wear, great sound isolation Cons: A little bulky for travel
Let me just start by saying that the Sennheiser HD-280 PRO headphones are absolutely amazing. They will allow you to hear detail and depth in your music that you never knew existed. With that said they may not be exactly what you want. Now on to the ...
Pros: Sealed, comfort, single-cord, great sound. Cons: Sealed headphones sound worse than open.
These are my first dive into the world of hi-fi audio, and let me tell you, what a dive it was. The difference between these (or any quality headphones, I would imagine) and the stock ones bundled with PDCP's is amazing. I strongly recommend to...
Pros: Good noise attenuation, very comfortable, replaceable parts, respected audio manufacturer Cons: Not strong at extreme ends of hi-fi spectrum reproduction.

Pros: Superb sound reproduction, flat response, one-sided coiled cord, closed, comfortable Cons: Style, reveals flaws in source recording, pressure from headphones is rather heavy

Pros: Great sound, lightweight, noise-cancelling, coiled cord, cheap Cons: Big
I bought my HD-280s a while ago after reading great reviews about all the headphones in the Sennheiser line. These cans continue their tradition of incredible sound and great design.
Pros: Needs no expensive amplifier. Inexpensive. Quality/Value. Best at keeping music in, blocking noise out. Cons: Some comfort issues with pressure squeeze on head. Can't hear the telephone ring.
The Sennheiser HD-280 PRO is sometimes referred to as just HD-280. They are the same headphone. The only other headphone in this price range that offers as good price/performance is the Grado SR-60. The Sennheiser HD-280 PRO is my best recommendation ...
Pros: Durable, relatively inexpensive, very effective at sealing against external sounds. Cons: Pretty uncomfortable, tonal balance and imaging are only average.
As other reviewers have written, the HD-280s are probably some of the "sound sealingest" headphones you can find. I've worn ear protectors while shooting that let through more noise than these do. But the downside of this is that these cans really ...
Pros: Sound quality, great pricing, comfort and amazing bass and treble. Cons: Not too good-looking and can get uncomfortable if worn for too long.

Pros: Fine, uncolored, flat-response sound. Comfortable to wear. Cons: Plastic headband component and cord failed. Home quality, NOT professional quality.
I'm a career radio broadcaster and have been in the business for 34 years. I purchase and use my own 'phones on the air, so I take very good care of them. These 280s have been in use for about ten months for four or five hours a day, five days a week. ...
Pros: Rich sound, well cushioned, Cons: In my opinion, extremely ugly and too big to be worn in public
The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones sound amazing for their price. They are a big bit and heavy, and some of my friends have complained that prolonged use of them can put pressure on your head as well as make your ears a little sweaty. They are over the ...

Pros: Awesome sound, great range, very flat response Cons: None

Pros: Accurate, detailed, good deal, tough, comfortable. Cons: Coiled cord, and they fold kind of awkwardly.
I bought these for critical listening, and tweaking that requires absolute accuracy, especially in the low frequencies. These phones achieve that and more. The bass is flat as a frozen pond all the way down. Don't be misguided by reviewers that say...
Pros: Isolation, separation of sound, comfort, durability. Cons: Not the deepest bass(but it is accurate)

Pros: Sound quality excellent. Sound reproduction accurate. Sound amazingly vibrant and warm. Cons: Not easily portable. Reveals flaws in source material. Coiled cord.
I had read all the reviews before I purchased these earphones and I narrowed it down to the Sennheiser HD280 pro and the Sony V6. The Sennheiser HD 280 had a $10 rebate, so I went for those. I listened to them when I bought them, knowing they wouldn't ...
I collected money for some time to buy my first "real headphones". I knew one thing. It must be Sennheiser HD 280 Pro - design is excellent, circumaural earcups are very comfortable to wear. Sound is very clear, huge and with enough bass and...
Pros: Incredible closed sound; noise attenuation; very durable. Cons: Somewhat tight headband; not very attractive overall; not GREAT with MP3/AAC, but still very good.
I've read many reviews that call the Sennheiser HD 280 "The Dollar-For-Dollar Headphone Champ" (or something to that effect) and I can certainly see why so many people feel that way. If you're looking for closed-back headphones, I'm willing to bet that ...
I've used the Sony V6 and the newer 7506 for a total of 10 years, since first getting into pro audio. I'd always liked Sennheiser headphones, but they didn't offer anything for the pro. So last year at the AES show, I noticed that the new 280 was at the...
Pros: Comfortable, and perfect for transcription and jazz Cons: None to speak of

Pros: Great sound, doesn't take much to power them. Blocks a lot of sound. Cons: Alright bass. Not as good as open cans.
When I first received these cans I put them on, after using my Sennheiser 497s and I was disappointed. They just didn't compare to the 497s but I kept reading about having to break them in for at least 30 or 40 hours so I left them playing for about 30...

Great sound, but less than stellar construction by jpport123 ,Nov 02 '07
Pros: Outstanding sound quality and ambient noise dampening abilities. Cons: Very poor headband construction, plastic disintegrated, currently held together with electrical tape.
First off, I must say that I love the sound quality of these headphones. The external dampening of ambient noise is very good and its ability to minimize sound transmission to anyone around you is also very good. The dynamic range of the sound reproduction is also very good. Unfortunately, the headset construction is not as good as the audio quality. The plastic on the headband construction disintegrated after about a year, however I am still listening to them with the headband held together with electrical tape. Not exactly what i imagined when you consider the overall package.
I spent most of my review time with the headphones analytically. Focusing primarily on a frequency response / sensitivity / weight / price point variables before settling on the HD280. Even with the headphone being held together with tape, please notice that I'm still listening to them... The sound quality is that good... Just wish they took the time to make a better headband.
Everything I expected--great sound, good value by jarednc ,Apr 18 '05
Pros: Excellent noise attenuation Cons: heavy
I read a lot of reviews of these headphones before I bought them and I agree with most of them. These headphones are a great value and have good sound. They are not meant for jogging and they're not terribly styling. They are comfortable except when wearing horn-rimmed glasses.
The bass is good (you can't expect speaker quality because some soundwaves are several feet long, which is impossible in any headphone) and there is nothing cheap or hollow about them. Audiophiles seem to think these are good intro headphones. I love live music and these headphones really make my day. No disappointment.
The reason that I bought these over some less expensive headphones with good sound quality is that the noise-attenuation is excellent. You can spend more money on noise-cancelling headphones and sacrifice sound quality.
Pros: Overall Great sound. Noise cancellation. Comfort. Cons: Sweaty ears if worn for a long time. Ugly design, but who cares.
Great Buy. You can listen to them as loud as you want and they won't bother anyone. I use them with an Sandisk MP3 player, not the best source, and they are great.
I am Happy, Roommate is happy by jared81477 ,Jun 07 '06
Pros: Quality build, frequency range, price ($80) but worth more Cons: Only limitations are from its source, none from headphones
Lots of great reviews for these headphones, therefore I probably will not say anything different... I no longer wake anyone else with gaming or music sources. These headphones are manufactured so well, full range, comfortable, and they feel like a pair of headphones I'll have for along time. Not very often one can say that about electronics. It's the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Very nice for gamers and audiophiles by xxbalutxx ,Mar 31 '04
Pros: Great sound at a reasonable price, excellent noise cancelling Cons: Long burn in, sometimes gets uncomfortable on ears
I bought these Sennheisers 3-4 Months ago for 80 bucks off Ebay. These are probably the best headphones at this price you can get. The low frequency, the midrange, and the highs are excellent. At first, I thought these were really bad headphones, they were probably worse sounding than my 5 dollar Sony headphones i bought. The first 5 days of use, the sound began to clear up. After the 50 hour burn though, these headphones have almost tripled in quality. This is also great for high noise environments, I turn my stereo up all the way then put these on, I wont be able to hear nothing but these. These headphones are also pretty comfortable, but you have to get used to it so you can withstand long hours with it. I use these headphones exclusively for Counter-Strike (I use it at least 6 hours a day). Once you used it enough, your head will get used to it and it wont give you headaches after the first time you use it.
Cannot handle high volume. They distort at anything near very loud levels. Very poor bass response. Unexpectedly bad.
Way, way overrated. Returned them the next day.
Pros: Extremely comfortable, rugged and isolated enough for studio situations, true sound, fair price. Cons: Slight wearing along ear cups.
I bought these things about 4 years ago for studio purposes and they work fannn-friggin-tastic! The sound is fair for it's price: they can handle a wide range of frequencies...very true sound) and the isolation is exceptional. Heavy duty cord comes in handy when working around the studio. I've tried top on the line headphones including Sony and BOSE, and these are one of the most comfortable out of them all!! I recommend these headphones to any serious listener. These are too expensive for passive listers, but well worth the $100 in critical situations!! The only problem I've had with these is due a slight wearing along the ear cups. It's not even the cushion part, just the lining. Keep in mind I have had these for years and they have been though quite a bit!! Good luck.
Another vote in favor of these headphones by vpribish ,Sep 30 '03
Pros: great sound, comfortable, sturdy, maintainable, single-side cord Cons: too large for mobile use, grip may be too firm
Many have commented on the value of these headphones, so I'll just write an express review concurring. These are quality headphones, physically big, strong, and comfy for hours of listening. They seal you off well from your environment and replace it with, to this amateur's ears, excellent sound. I like the replaceable, single-side, coiled cord too. Only down-side is for those of us with wide skulls the grip pressure may be too high.
Great price for such great headphones! by edmiceter ,Oct 06 '03
Pros: Sound, Comfortable, good range, good price Cons: not portable
I just bought these headphones recently. At first they are not very comfortable because the ear cups feel real hard. After breaking into them, they are super comfortable. These headphones are pretty big though. That is the only downside to it as I see. Comparing these to some Sony DJ headphones, they provide better bass and overall just better. For a price of %85.00, it sure is worth it!!
Pros: Good at high and low frequencies, good bass, treble, noise cancellation Cons: Nothing that I can think of
Sennheiser HD-280 Pro is an awesome headphone. I researched quite a lot (even listened to many headphones) before buying this. The HD-280 headphone is much better than its sony, panasonic equivalents (even some of the costlier models). Sony has too much bass and the sounds starts to deteriorate in upper frequencies. Panasonic has very weak bass. Comparing this with those systems, I would say it is very stable, and consistent. With hiphop, rap, jazz, it sounds perfect. Wont blow your ears! I especially LOVE the fine distinction in sounds at all frequencies. You can hear ALL instruments used in the music. Drums, etc are very distinct. When you go up in the frequencies, it is very smooth unlike Sony. You can perfectly hear the finer parts of classical music. Plus, the noise cancellation feature is awesome. I no more hear babies crying around me in planes, annoying teenage girls shouting in coffee houses.. :) I just love my HD-280 Pro headphone.
Great closed headphones, somewhat large on the head by jdrew601 ,Oct 07 '03
Pros: 1) Excellent range
2) Great attenuation Cons: 1) Size
The Sennheiser HD-280 Pros are my first pair of semi high quality headphones. I recently have been developing an audiophile ear so I was looking for something that would sound better than my current speakers for music and movies. These were an excellent choice. Attenuate outside noise very well (being a college student living with other college kids this is a must). Excellent range hitting highs I have never heard before and producing bass flawlessly. Comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
They are a little large, but then again I never walk around campus with them on, so that is not a problem. Also, my ears get somewhat warm after a long time on my ears (usually after more than an hour).
NOTE: Do not pay full price for these babies...shop around on the net for a good price, I got mine from buy.com (excellent vendor) for $75.00
