Sennheiser HD202 Headphones - Good Sound without paying an Arm and a Leg

by dkozin dkozin is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Sep 29 '05
Pros: Low price, good sound, comfort, sound insulation, durability
Cons: Size
I recently decided that I needed to upgrade my headphones. I have been using enclosed headphones at home and earbuds for the portable players that I have (CD player and MP3). I have bought the Sennheiser HD202 for home ...

Decent home-studio monitor headphones...DJ with 'em? Uh...No.

by jacobmyers , Feb 24 '05
Pros: Fairly sturdy; decent sound (before and after modification)
Cons: The cord is really thin. They weren't very comfortable 'out of the box'
We have three of these here at BASE921. They were relatively inexpensive (very important) and the sound quality is decent (for $20 closed-back cans, I don't think that they can be beaten). We bought them for monitoring while recording live-in-studio ...

Great DJ headphones

by jarros , Oct 09 '02
Pros: AMAZING sound, VERY comfortable, great price
Cons: The earcup removal design, length in cord
I can't believe how great these headphones are. They have very good bass response and mid/high frequencies are great too. They can block out outside sound very efficiently, and they don't let sound out, either, so you won't bug your coworkers while...

Sound Quality for $20?

by cdbongo , Jun 12 '07
Pros: Long cord, SOUND QUALITY, Comfort, PRICE
Cons: Just a tad on the flimsy side. NO cushion between ears and drivers. (very minor)
Sound Quality for $20? Most would say no, but for the average consumer, I'd say yes. I bought these headphones for a number of reasons. First, my stock ipod headphones broke, and I wanted a pair with better sound quality and more comfort than the ...

Replace Those Weak Headphones That Came With Your Device

by mkuehn , May 31 '05
Pros: Great sound for the price -- excellent. Good brand name. LONG cord.
Cons: Small cup size.
Go out and buy a pair of these to replace the headphones that came with your current music device, and you'll wonder why they bother to include those piece of junk headphones in with the device. I bought these phones to replace my standard Apple iPod ...

great deal on a great name

by bhensel , Apr 14 '03
Pros: unbelievable sound for such a low price!
Cons: bass is too boomy
I needed to replace an old pair that I had used with my computer for years. Being somewhat of an audio nut, I was somewhat reluctant to purchase such a cheap pair of headphones. I have been spoiled by a nice pair of Grados and the headphone amp they...

Decent headphones but not for wearing all day

by idiot22222 , Jul 06 '03
Pros: Decent sound isolation, good sound.
Cons: Could be a little more comfortable - not perfect for listening for a long time.
For the money I paid for these headphones I am happy with them. The sound is probably as good as yo ...

I was skeptical about the price but...

by omghi2u , Mar 01 '03
Pros: good bass, good outside noise blocking, lightweight, long cord, good SQ, comfortable
Cons: small hissing and bad THD at high volumes
These are really good headphones. I don't listen at extremely loud volumes so the distortion is no problem to me. They are probably the best pair of headphones I've ever owned (also most expensive). If you are looking for a replacement from the...

Great quality for the price!
by smearp ,Dec 01 '06
Pros: Comfortable, great sound
Cons: The cable is actually TOO long (I keep rolling over it with my chair)
These are GREAT headphones for the price (approximately $20). I use them with my computer and iPod, and they sound absolutely great. They are quite comfortable, and when I use them to listen to my iPod on the bus, they serve the dual function of drowning out the noise around me. They are not specifically "noise reducing" headphones, but since they completely cover my ears, they serve that dual purpose. They are also great in the winter as pseudo-earmuffs ;)

The only downside to these headphones is that the cable is EXTREMELY long, and I tend to get it tangled up in my chair or roll over the cable as it reaches the floor (with room to spare) when I am listening on my computer. Other than that, these headphones cannot be beat!

great buy
by mastermind0 ,Apr 24 '06
Pros: Great sound, low price, long 10' cord.
Cons: Plug isn't gold-plated. Cord is unusually thin.
After much researching after three of my previous headphones broke, I settled upon the Sennheiser HD 202. What a great choice it was too! For the price these are by far the best headphones I've ever heard. It does take several hours (at least 20) as a break-in period to achieve best sound. Comfort is so-so, it's a pretty snug fit. The cord is very thin and I get the impression that it will be the first thing to break when the time comes. Although these headphones are not perfect, you can't beat the value!

Killer Headphone In This Price Range!
by audio-freak ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: Great Sound Quality, Sennheiser Name, Inexpensive
Cons: Slightly Uncomfortable For Long Listening
Sennheiser is a very well-respected company that makes audiophile qulity products. More leaning towards headphones. And it's no doubt the HD202 showcases not only the company's low end headphones but the low end headphones market in general. The bass and mids are very detail and not increased, and while maybe a little warm sounding for the picky ones, have clear and detailed treble that flow with your music. Very good sound quality and possibly the best headphone you will find for $20. The only issue found is that they could be slightly uncomfortable for long listening, and if you are doing so I would recommend the similar sounding Koss UR21 over these, but a killer headphone for the price!

Great Buy!
by dutley1017 ,Dec 27 '06
Pros: Excellent sound, great price, pretty decent background noise suppression.
Cons: N/A
These headphones are incredible for the price. Excellent frequency response, better than expected noise cancellation properties, and quite comfortable. The leatherette ear pieces are replaceable and don't wither like the cheap foam pads. It also comes with a 1/4" stereo jack plug for use on guitar amps or home stereos. I'd recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to pay a fortune for a great set of headphones.

Disappointing
by fiddlermd ,Oct 16 '06
Pros: decent build quality, good bass response
Cons: VERY uncomfortable, especially if you have a big head. too much bass, not enough highs
I got these based on all the glowing reviews I read, but what I got was less than expected. First off, I have a big head and small ears - for my head, they were VERY uncomfotable. They exert way too much pressure on the head and the ear cups are not big enough to envelop the ear, but rather press on it (double bad for me cause I wear glasses too). However, more importantly, the sound quality has a very boomy dull quality to it. There seems to be quite a peak in the bass and not enough highs.. it sounds like the response has a downward sloping curve to its response. This would probabl work well for rap and some pop, but on other types of music and movies the bass simply drowns out the rest of the frequencies. To be fair, these are fairly inexpensive and the sound OK. I just think many tinny KSC75 koss, and various in-ear things sound better even though they cant reproduce bass as nicely.

Good price, good sound
by cornflaco ,Mar 19 '05
Pros: SOUND, PRICE, ISOLATION, comfort, style, cord length
Cons: cord length??
I bought these headphones for my Creative Zen Touch recently and I am very pleased. The sound out of these affordable headphones is incredible. Very well balanced and sensitive in all ranges. They block out sound VERY well. I had considered buying sound canceling headphones at a much higher price but tried these on a whim. I'm glad I did. I actually would not recommend these if you want to hear anything outside :) you won't hear it.
The design of the headphones is stylish in person, they do not look cheap like many less expensive "entire ear" models. A very functional, serious about music style.
My only slight complaint would be that the cord on these phones is very long (this can also be a plus). Sennheiser did, however, include a clip that you can wind the extra onto which actually makes it rather convenient.

Great value!
by kuro4321 ,Oct 04 '04
Pros: Great for all types of music. Comfortable. Long straight cord. TWO YEAR WARRANTY!!
Cons: Some bass flutter on really low bass music. Frequency response only goes down to 18hz.
Was trying to decide between the 202 and the 212Pro. After listening to both at the store, I bought the 202. It had a better overall balance between highs, mids and bass. The 212Pro's bass sounded good and probably will be better for people who listen mostly to bass music. I listen to trance, rock, pop, hiphop, classical, all types and found the 202 to better fit my needs. With an equalizer (Windows Mediaplayer works fine), you can get punchy, tight bass and crisp highs. Comfortable pads. Nice, long straight cord. I hated my Sony MDRV6's coiled cord.
