Prices are Down, but Sharp's 42LCD is still an LCD and Still Lacks Processing....

by nick1326 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jul 10 '07
Pros: Decent Image Quality in HD. Low Low Prices
Cons: Won't tune to ISF standard, no scaling = SD video is dissapointing
I an world where flat-panel televisions have quickly gone from overpriced En-Vogue technology, to commodity-priced every-day items, Sharp continues to dominate on brand-recognition and solid marketing. While the newest Aquos panels are very affordable ...

Sharp LCD amazing picture as long you are HD.

by vincedog3 , Jul 04 '07
Pros: Great HD picture and internal 1080p processing.
Cons: Need more HDMI connections. Today 4 is the number. Poor Standard Definition performance.
First and foremost let me share I have none of the banding issues others have experienced. The Sharp shows a fantastic picture in HD. For now just using Cable HD, but will get a Sony PS-3 for the Blu-ray and a Toshiba A2 series HD DVD player for the high ...

Problems after 1 year

by my92cents , Jul 18 '08
Pros: Nice on HD channels remember all channels are not HD
Cons: lasted one year needed to be replaced.
I'm writing this review one year after my Sharp Aquos 42" HDTV LCD TV was purchased. 2 months after we purchased it they came out with a newer model that is thinner and has a choice of picture in picture which, with a TV this big is a nice option to ...

Wonderful Viewing Experience

by buckeyeguy , Apr 03 '07
Pros: Picture quality in HDTV mode is excellent
Cons: Picture quality without HDTV may be disappointing
This 42" Sharp Aquos HDTV was our first experience with HDTV. We have had it for 5 months and have thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the picture and features. I don't recall seeing any programming in 1080p yet, but the 1080i programs (and even 480p ...

Not Disappointed

by dandoc , Nov 24 '07
Pros: Perfect High-Def Picture, No visible Lag
Cons: Poor Standard Definition Picture Quality, Poor Sound
I picked the tele up from Costco four months ago and have not regretted it. On the good side of things, it has excellent picture on my dish at 1080i. If I am lucky, santa will deliver a PS3 so I can see if there really is a difference to 1080P. On the ...

Sharp Aquos 42" LCD - a sharp tv!

by julieannbolin , Sep 16 '07
Pros: A beautiful, high quality television; the best of the LCDs.
Cons: This television is a bit more expensive than other brands.
We purchased this television in November 2006 at a price well above what they are selling for today - roughly 2,500. There were less expensive TVs and less known brands available for lower prices (as well as cheaper plasmas) but this television still has ...

Pros: great picture, great color,no loss of pic. at angles, sturdy, great sound.
Cons: it is a little expensive.
We have had this TV for a couple of months now, and we love it. It has an awesome picture. The base is very sturdy, I have 2 small children and they can not tip it over because the stand is so sturdy. Some of the flat screen lcd's loose picture ...

Buyer Beware!

by truthfulcritic , Jun 21 '07
Pros: None.
Cons: Inoperable.
We bought a Sharp Aquos LC-42D62U on May 9, 2007. By May 15 an opaque brown shadow had taken up most of the screen. By May 16, the picture was gone, and in spite of many calls to Sharp “customer service,” the TV has sat unfixed, unreplaced and ...

Black Friday Deals are awesome

by vensik , Jan 13 '08
Pros: Superb picture, Sharp brand name, Good deal
Cons: I wish the base had a little more weight to it.
Honestly, I never appreciated HD until I had it. I was fine watching my 32" tube. The week before black Friday I saw a circuit city deal for this television that was too good to pass up. An $1800 TV for $799. I actually didn't get one of the in stock ...

TERRIBLE WARRANTY AND QUALITY CONTROL- STAY AWAY

by bigjake99 , Oct 26 '09
Pros: None.
Cons: Poor quality control, poor warranty coverage.
STAY AWAY.  I bought this unit from Costco.  In my day I have owned Sony, Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba televisions.  This is my first (and last) Sharp television.  Right out of the box the unit had a burned out pixel.  After ...

Great Value, Best Tv for the Price
by rsw_21 ,Apr 17 '07
Pros: Good price, Good Picture, HD looks amazing, Great looking Tv
Cons: Its a little wider than I thought it would be, banding issuies
I just got this tv this morning. It is GREAT! I bought it from buydig.com and it was a wonderful experience, I highly reccomend them. Plus i only payed 1514.00 for the thing. If I would of bought it from one of the big box stores it would of been at least 1850. I love knowing that I got a great deal. For the price you can't beat this tv. Obviously with any tv you can find minor flaws, but this tv overall is great. I am in the process of fine tuning the picture, but I don't know if i'm doing more good than harm. Maybe I need one of those calibration dvds. The only thing I didn't like about this product is that its a little thicker than I thought it would be. Its nowhere near as thick as a projection but its a little thicker than I thought a normal lcd would be.

Sharp Rules!!!
by ayinde801 ,Oct 04 '07
Pros: Beautiful picture, multiple HDMI inputs, great value!
Cons: Not many, maybe the sound quality.
I did a fair amount of research and comparative shopping before deciding to settle on the 42" Aquos and it's one the better purchases I've ever made. I'm not a tech geek or anything like that but I subscribe to my satellite company's HD service and the Aquos shows every available channel in stunning 1080i (when available), and it also has another HDMI input for my HD DVDs and will output to 1080p.

I'm a pretty simple person. My sporting events are in crisp HD and my action movies are in crisp HD. If I choose to buy a video gamimg system, guess what...they'll be in crisp HD.

The Aquos is light, mountable, the sound is decent and the picture is pristine!!!! What more can you ask for?

Defective design
by lysmykita ,Jan 14 '09
Pros: Nice picture and sound as long as it lasts and then OOOPs sorry.
Cons: Avaoid Sharp at all costs if you value your money.
Purchased 26" Sharp Aquos slightly over 2 years ago.  Product appeared great initially.  Then horizontal bands appeared accross picture.  Took TV to authorized repair facility.  Verdict was that the main board was toast.  A new board would cost as much as a new television and then there would be labour charges extra.  Sharp seems to have a policy to charge atrocious amounts for replacement parts.  Therefore TVs are only good to throw away.  What a shame in this supposedly new era of ecological concern.

For the main board to burn up there has to be a design flaw inherent in the original design.  Have heard of other people having the same problem and no satisfaction from Sharp.

Don't buy Sharp
by mcsnyder ,Jul 15 '08
Pros: good for a time
Cons: unable to repair a 4 year old set
Well it was good for about 4 years and then it went black and the parts from Sharp are $5000 to repair it. Sharp says "well, it's four years old" and I say "it's ONLY four years old" and it can't even be repaired! Think about longevity of these products. Even an extended warranty would be out by now but it is still a relatively new TV. When it was new it cost $3500...before the prices for LCD's came down. This is a terrible thing to do to us. I have called everyone at Sharp that I could reach but they are taking a very hard line and saying that they can't separate the part needed and I will have to pay for a whole new panel.
Don't buy Sharp
