Pros: Price, Longevity, Ride Quality, Looks Cons: Weight, Not as clean as some SRAM components, not as crisp as XT-XTR
Shimano Deore LX, Low Normal: The new standard Shimano has long been the favorite for many cyclists, especially those riding off-road. Until recently, Low Normal (now I will refer to as Rapid Rise) was saved for XTR geeks and those that knew ...
Pros: Relatively Cheap and Accurate, Much better than lower end Shimano Cons: Not the strongest return spring, hesitant under heavy shifting
I'm not a particular fan of the Shiamno line of components, but I have to hand it to them: They really hit the performance-price point with LX. While the performance is not quite up to par with XT, SRAM ESP 9.0 or the benchmark XTR, it is still quite...
Pros: Excellent quality, easy to adjust Cons: Weight
The Shimano Deore LX rear derailleur is a reliable, cost-effective part for any mountain bike. It features parts made of high-quality stainless steel and aluminum, and weighs only 285 grams / 0.628 lbs / 10.05 oz.
Pros: Smooth clean shifts at minimal cost Cons: Not really designed for aggressive use
LX stuff falls into a really strange portion of the market. By Shimanos definition it is their product line aimed at intermediate cyclists. But what does that mean, exactly who is intermediate, and at what? To some intermediate means that they don't...
Pros: Long term dependability. Affordable. sleek design Cons: somewhat heavy, could use tighter internal spring
I like the LX line as a whole generally. Even in my wrenching days when I could buy XTR at wholesale. For those who want good performance w/o selling their car or foregoing 2 months rent, this is a nice upgrade. I am impressed with the durablility of the...
Pros: affordable, decent weight, does it's job, Cons: Slight heavy, spring loses rention after a while, not mean't for abuse or racing.
I am reviewing the shimano lx rear derailleur that came stock on my trek vrx mountain bike. The job of a derailleur is move the chain to the different gears on the cassette to adjust for shifting. The rear derailleur is controlled by the shifter on ...
Pros: Smooth, crisp, clean, quiet shifts. Cons: Can't outlast XT or XTR in the long haul.
If you race or put serious miles on your bike, you know the importance of your bikes performance. You are the first one to notice when your drivetrain starts to shift a little slow or make a little extra noise. Is there anything more frustrating than...
Pros: easy to adjust, shimano quailty Cons: durability
Lx is about midway through shimano's hierarchy of parts. For beginning riders, the lx derailleur is more than adequate and will last a long time. I rode an lx derailleur for a couple of years with no problem at all. When you start to compete and ride...
Pros: Shifts well, stealth looking, Shimano dependability and reputation. Cons: isn't XTR. doesn't look like wood or a flag. not CNC'ed (Love ya Paul!)
If you're going to buy XTR, or XT, rather than LX, you better have a darn good reason. LX in my experience, has all the durability of a tank, and I mean a big strong tank. Let's say a.....well, I don't know about tank manufacturers.
LX: great rear derailleur for its price range by rockyrides ,Sep 26 '05
Pros: Smooth, positive, & quiet shifts up and down; relatively inexpensive. Cons: The greyish color is a little funky.
Just decided to upgrade my nearly new Trek Navigator 200 with the LX rear derailleur. My bike came standard with the Alivio. It upshifted smoothly, but downshifted poorly to put it mildly. My LBS gave me a real good deal on a new (old stock) LX (570), and installed it today. What a difference on the 3 mile ride home! Smooth, positive shifts up and down now. Shimano had expressed some reservation to my LBS about whether my 8 speed chain would function smoothly with the LX, but we decided to go ahead anyway;and I'm glad we did.
Update on LX rear derailleur- decided to put the LX on my '05 Rocky Mountain Soul with rapidfire shifters; it works even better with the rapidfires compared to the gripshifters of my Trek Navigator. I'm real pleased with the smooth, positive, non-dramatic shifting.
