Pros: Nice bang for the buck, great warranty, easy to use software Cons: Software is SLOW, reliability questions on other Simpletech product (160GB)
Ill admit that Ive had bad experiences with external hard drives. I had a Maxtor One Touch which did pretty well for a while. Then, it failed, I think due to a virus, while it was under warranty. Maxtor repaired it and it was working again for ...

First glimpse

Pros: Cheap, nice style, fine stands, plug n play worked! Cons: None right now.
I just got my drive from buy.com. Used a $10 promo and with $20 back, will cost $140. Fired right up when plugged in. Pre-formatted NTFS. If you have a Mac will probably have to re-format. My brother and I share drives and we use FAT32 as compatible with both PC and Mac. This is to stream my music to an airport express on my wireless network in my house downstairs. Looks fine, good stands support well. Left running for two or three days and just barely warm to touch. Really it's only about 230MB as other space is given to formatting function. Overall been happy. Will let know if poops out in future quickly.

SimpleTech Vs. Maxtor External Hard Drives
by kdramr ,Nov 21 '05
Pros: Does the job it is required to do quickly and without a problem. Cons: None so far.
Love this hard drive. I have been using it for over 6 months without a problem. I had a Maxtor external hard drive before this one. It was very problematic. One day it died. Maxtor could not retrieve the data but gave me a new one as it was still under warrantee. I had the same problem with the 2nd one and wound up losing my data once again. I threw it out and will never buy a Maxtor again. This one works like a dream so far.
