Pros: Juki made, high quality, endless bobbin, self threading, reasonably priced Cons: Haven't found any yet
I had a Brother PE 400D and had outgrown its limitations. I did a lot of research on embroidery machines and narrowed it down to the Brother ULT2003, Viking Designer I, and Singer Quantum XL 5000. Then I went to see a demo at a local dealer of the ...

Singer Quantum 5000 is not for Quilters
by aquilter2 ,Jan 12 '05
Pros: Singer has a great straight stitch, Cons: Not impressed with thread cutter.
I purchased the Quantum 5000 in Sept 2003. The dealer assured me it was made for quilters. After 6 hours of demo in the store I purchased the machine and took it home. At the time of purchase I had a commission piece I was working on so did not immediately try some of the promised features. Upon trying basic machine quilting, I was very disappointed to find this machine does not meet basic standards for a quilter. When using the stippling technique, it breaks thread every 2-3 inches and generally leaves a mess. I returned to the dealer and explained my problem. He gave supposedly fixed the problem, I tried in in the store, then went home, only to find the problem still exists. Back to the dealer, more tinkering, still unable to stipple. At the present time, I have purchased a Janome made for quilters and couldn't be happier. No more thread breaking, stipples wonderfully, instruction book written in quilter language. I also teach quilting and come in contact with numerous ladies. So far, no Singers in my classes.
