Pros: It puts you in the Christmas spirit! Cons: Way too short.

Pros: Nice writing by a good author. Great descriptive passages. Cons: Usual cliche Christmas topic about otherwise distracted people remembering the true meaning of the season.
In the spirit of Charlie Brown and the Grinch, John Grisham's Skipping Christmas is a story about people forgetting about the reasons we celebrate Christmas in the first place.
Luther and Nora Krank have just seen their daughter,...

Pros: A quick, funny story with characters we probably know in our own worlds Cons: A little too quick!
Luther and Nora Krank are a normal couple faced with an empty nest when their daughter goes off to join the Peace Corps. Christmas just won't be the same at their house this year. At least won't be if it is left up to Luther.
Luther is an...

Pros: short Cons: silly, far-fetched, bizarre
I found this holiday novella by John Grisham to be entertaining, but not a must-read. Luther Krank, disgusted by the amount he and his family spent on last Christmas and how little they have to show for it, decides that his family will skip Christmas...

Pros: Easy reading. Something we've all probably considered. Cons: Sometimes unsympathetic characters.
I was given Skipping Christmas to read while at my parents' house over the holidays. My mother hadn't read it yet, but she had seen an excerpt from the book on a website and was interested enough to buy. The idea behind the story is one that I'm sure ...

Pros: Entertaining, Quick read Cons: If you want "the usual" Grisham novel, this isn't it
I just finished this book a few days ago. I liked it much more than I thought I would. :)
"Skipping Christmas" is about Luther & Nora Krank, who have decided to "skip Christmas" (no gifts, no decorating, no tree, etc.) and go on vacation...

Pros: Hits a common feeling we've all wanted to express at some point but don't dare. Cons: none
Although this short book may be quite the derailment from Grisham's serious long novels, his humor and uncanny knowledge of human behavior is again revealed in this story on the reality of Christmas.
There are other reviews that outline much...

Pros: Fast, easy reading with a touching ending. Cons: expensive
Grisham's "Skipping Christmas" was a refreshing and entertaining book to read after a long day of Christmas shopping. My husband is an accountant, so for me this was like reading about my life. However, I am sure many people can identify with the...

Pros: A different direction for John Grisham Cons: Wish it was longer
This book was a great change in reading. It was not your typical John Grishman "lawyer" book. I felt as if the people in the book could be my next door neighbors. The characters were detailed so well. It was light and whimsical. The story line was so...

Pros: Funny, entertaining, easy reading. Cons: None
Skipping Christmas is definitely a great book to read. Luther the main character reminds me of myself. Wouldn't you just love (at least once in a lifetime) to get away from Christmas and all the stress, shopping, cooking and spending? Wouldn't you...

Pros: quick read Enjoyable Very different Cons: Somewhat boring beginning
When I first started reading this book, I was a little disappointed. Then, as I got more into it, it was more pleasing. I read it in one day, on Christmas. Made me think of Christmas in a whole new light. I would recommend it. The characters are...

Pros: Good read, keeps your interest Cons: short story
This is a short story by John Grisham. It is not along his normal line of writing. I was surprised to be able to read the entire book in one afternoon. There was not any of the normal Grisham suspense. I was surprised to see such a short novel...

Pros: Hilarious, easy to read Cons: too short
I normally read Dickens and other Victorian novels and, believe it or not, have never read Grisham. So it was easy for me to accept Skipping Christmas on it's own merit. I thought it refreshingly funny. I think the Kranks have a great marriage. Mrs....

Pros: This is a very enjoyable book with lots of laughs Cons: different from Grishams thrillers
This book has laughs from the begining to the end. It is really worth reading. The story starts with a couple and their twenty three year old daughter at Thanksgiving. The daughter joins the Peace Corps and won't be back until next Christmas. The...

Pros: Written by John Grisham Cons: This is not his best works.
Luther Krank has decided to go against tradition and skip Christmas - he has a hard time talking his wife, Nora, to go along with him.
The previous year the Kranks had spent an appalling amount, over $6,000 on Christmas. This year Luther...
