Pros: Price, looks, picture and sound quality, some TV/receiver control from the menu, MP3 Cons: Limited set of connections, no DVD-A or SACD playback, no WMA playback, limited scan speeds
The Sony DVP-NC615 is a five-disc DVD changer that plays CD-R, CD-RW discs and discs with MP3 audio.
The NC615 looks solid and very stylish. The front panel has buttons for basic functions as well as 5 buttons for direct selection of...
Pros: I like the MP3 ability. Remote buttons can be differentiated by feel. Cons: A bunch. Mine broke after less than a month.
I bought this little beauty at Circuit City for about $180. I'd been eyeing a Panasonic, but a reviewer on this site pointed out the uniformity and tiny-ness of the buttons on the Panasonic remote. I agreed that that could prove annoying, so I paid a...
Pros: Nice price for a 5-disc changer. Sounds an looks great. All your necessary features. Cons: No 5.1 SACD outs, kind of bulky.
Technically solid enough for all but true audiophiles. DVD picture is very good with S-Video. MP3 and CD-R/RW playback are great. Audio CDs sound very good with a monster cable digital coaxial audio output. An optical out would be nice, as would a...
Pros: Quieter than my old Sony changer. MP3 capability Cons: Reliability***, no illumination on the remote.
Always been a fan of Sony, all their stuff seems to be built solidly compared to the others. Wanted to get rid of my DVD player and separate CD changer. Happy and eager to get it going I rushed home with it and set it up. I was completely happy wih it...
Pros: Silver matches Sony Wega, mp3 compatible Cons: Can't shuffle MP3s (see below)
This CD/DVD changer has proven to be a nice addition to my apartment. Not only does it provide a very clear picture when viewing DVDs it also will read burned CDs. It is MP3 compatible and Ive also tested it and it reads burned DVDs as...
Pros: Attractive, good feature set and audio/video specifications. Cons: Failed to read DVDs in trays, physically very deep.
Purchased from The Sony Store Dec. 26th, 2002. Failed to read DVDs in carousel trays only 4 days later. How do I know this? The morning of my purchase, I placed my brand new 4 DVD set of Lord of the Rings into the carousel trays and watched the movie -...
I bought this DVD player in August 2002. The following February (2003), it stopped working. Opening the case revealed that the discs won't spin up when the tray is closed. For a day or so, I was able to get them to spin up by sticking my finger in there...
Pros: Digital Co-ax, good signal. Cons: search speeds, display.
I bought a Sony HT-DDW840 home theater system which I love. A week later, I bought this DVD player. For the same price, there are better units out there.
My beefs with this player are; the display shows 5 discs, even if I only have one in. The...
Pros: Plays multiple discs. Cons: Unreliable, short warranty period, no local customer support.
I owned this unit for exactly 13 months when it stopped recognizing all discs. Optics were clean. When I called Sony I found out the warranty is only 90 days. I also found out the cost to ship, diagnose and repair the unit was almost what it costs new. We originally went with this unit thinking that we were getting a product that was built to last. We ended up buying a $99 dollar Panasonic with almost all the same features as the Sony and the best part is that the replacement was half the price of the Sony.
Pros: Reliable, good sound, good picture quality Cons: Needs more buttons on the player
I purchased this for two reasons: to replace my Sony 5-disc CD player which finally broke after 10 years of use, and to add a DVD player to my "home theater" stack. I had hoped that it's remote control would integrate with my older Sony receiver remote, but it didn't.
So far I've been disappointed with this unit for one reason only: the lousy way it handles switching between shuffle play and normal play. On my old CD changer there were buttons on the unit for shuffle, repeat, normal play. It was easy to walk up and insert a new CD, and play a few tracks, or shuffle all the CDs. This new unit has the worst user interface. You must have your TV set on and use the remote control to navigate through the on screen menus to change between shuffle and normal, and one or all discs. It's a maddening system to use, and confusing to tell whether it is shuffling one or all discs. Oh to have the 10 year old player back!
Other than that it plays everything I've put in it and the sound and picture quality are fine.
