Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S90 Digital Camera - Large Screen and Good Battery Life

by dkozin dkozin is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Nov 29 '05
Pros: Large screen, battery life, features and performance, image quality
Cons: Slow shutdown, noisy ISO 400, uses Memory Stick
Having had a good experience with the S ony Cyber-Shot DSC-S60, I decided to try the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S90. I bought it for $207 - only $20 more than what I paid for the S60. The S90 is pretty similar to the S60, but ...

Sony not for me - again!

by bobbyslav Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 28 '05
Pros: awesome video mode, large display, quick between shots, cool look, plenty of options
Cons: noisy pictures, poor auto mode, memory stick, slow battery charger, size
I’ve been trying to replace my old Fuji camera for a while now, and I can’t seem to find another model to justify spending more money on a digital camera. My main problems with my old camera are its slow response with the flash, low MP resolution, and ...

big disappointment!

by gav6791 , Jun 29 '06
Pros: User friendly, big buttons & good ergonomics, smooth zoom, big 2.5 LCD, viewfinder.
Cons: Washed out pictures in sunlight, USB connection on the bottom, plastic body instead of metal.
The camera I bought was the Sony DSC-S90L, an import model (available through some Canadian suppliers for a little while longer) and came in a medium blue color accented with chrome. I did extensive research before I gave this one a shot - but I was ...

DSC - S90 Good Camera

by kharin , Jan 31 '06
Pros: Good color, real looking shots, good detail, fast operation
Cons: Pictures not sharp, too contrasting ( extreme dark and bright)
Nice shots on LCD but once downloaded on computer, it disappoints a little only because I expected so much more like what I saw on LCD screen. I was thinking my camera was not up to snuff until another reviewer said the same thing, that once downloaded, ...

Good overall camera

by vmazzaluna , Apr 26 '06
Pros: Great features, excellent photo capture quality, good on board menus
Cons: A tad big/bulky, need to buy additional memory to utilize camcorder feature, no camera case
We purchased this camera to replace a Nixon Cool Pix (the blue swivel camera that's in a bunch of early 2000's movies :) ). Anyway, that camera was getting pretty much impossible to get photos that were crisp. As we just had a son in August, we needed a ...

Love it! The best camera ever!

by sbb2003 , Jan 11 '08
Pros: Large LCD screen, picture quality, battery life, video quality, burst mode
Cons: None
This is my first Sony camera. I had Kodak easy share and didn't like it. I polled my family and friends and they all had Sonys. So I decided to go with Sony and I haven't been disappointed! I bought this camera November 2005. At the time it was ...

Good Overall Camera
by chicanese2 ,Mar 25 '07
Pros: Ease of use - point and shoot/ many features
Cons: lens ring comes off easily/ blurry pictures in low light
I have owned this camera for about a year and a half. Overall, it has been easy to use and takes good pictures. It has many features and you will need to spend some serious quality time with the manual in order to use them. My main problem with this camera is that it does not do well in low light. Because the shutter speed is so slow, you simply cannot hold the camera and must find something stable upon which to rest it. Also, be very careful with the lens ring on this camera. Mine fell off while I was on vacation and I had to spend $13 on Ebay to replace it. Without the ring, it took lousy, blurry pictures.

Works great until it breaks, which isn't long.
by daeanaira ,Dec 11 '06
Pros: good pics, mostly easy to use.
Cons: batteries don't last long, broke after 9 months.
I loved the camera. It took great pics. BUT it stopped working after only 9 months. The lens guard would not always open. Even if the guard was open, the screen would show the pics already on the camera, but would turn black when you went to any of the picture modes. The camera would also take pics that were all blacked out.

I sent it in (since it was still under warranty) and it was "fixed". Shortly after the additional 90 day repair warranty was up, it stopped working in the exact same manner. I called Sony, "nothing could be done", unless I wanted to pay for additional repairs. Big surprise.

I would have loved to recommend this camera, because it was great while it worked, but that just wasn't that long.

GREAT Sony camera
by LOVFuji ,May 14 '06
Pros: easy to use size easy to handle
Cons: as with all digitals time between clicking for picture and picture coming up
This digital camera is fantastic! Easy to use even for the technology challenged (like myself). It is so good 3 members of our family own one. It is the only digital in our family. We have in the past owned other digital cameras but this is by far our favorite. Pictures transfer easily and sharply.

The Canon Axx killer.
by gil1908 ,Jun 05 '05
Pros: LCD, Fast operation, Live histogram, Video, manual control.
Cons: USB cable, MS card.
This camera is being compared a lot with the Canon A520 and with the older Canon A series. I think it is a much better camera. The only advantage for the Canon is a 4X zoom and full manual controls.
This camera is compact and fast and it takes great photos. It is a great family camera that can be taken anywhere.

Pros:
- LCD is huge (2.5")
- Camera is much faster in all aspects: startup, af, shutter etc.
- Video mode is excellent.
- Interface is very good.
- There is a live histogram.
- Fast USB connection.

Cons:
- The included charger is very slow, and I don't like how this camera connects to the PC with a weird cable.
- MS cards are expensive and used only by Sony.
- Would be nice if it were a little more compact.

Fell in love with it then it stopped working
by glumgirl ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: Nice-looking, Large LCD
Cons: Poor software and USB connection-stopped downloading pictures to PC after 4th attempt.
I bought this camera after seeing it from a friend of mine who owned one. It looks very slick and the LCD screen is large. I used it for several months. I just returned it today, 3 days shy of the receipt expiration because after 4 downloads to my PC, it stopped automatically and manually downloading. At first I thought it was a problem with my PC.

We tried to download pictures on 3 other computers to no avail. None of the computers recognized any hardware nor the USB cable, nor the camera. I called Sony and they walked me through some steps but they were not able to help me other than to confirm that the camera and USB cable were not being recognized.

Therefore, I could no longer download pictures from this camera to any PC.

I returned this item and will shop for something different-I recommend you purchase a different model-not worth the hassle!

Great Camera
by jenn123444 ,Apr 05 '06
Pros: Small and compact, fits in your pocket. Great pic quality.
Cons: Doesn't allow for detachable lens switching
Purchased this camera as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. We use the camera several times each month. The camera has a 4.1 pixel and the picture quality (both on the LCD screen and the picture print) outs is great. It has a 2.5 LCD screen which is one of the largest I've seen at this time. This camera comes with a package of rechargeable batteries which is so convenient. This is a great little camera for indoor and outdoor pic's. Video mode works great. We've often asked strangers to take pictures of us and they have no problems using the camera with just a little instruction on our part.
