Pros: Compact, tough stainless steel body, large LCD screen, very good battery life
Cons: No shutter priority or aperture priority modes, images are noticeably over-saturated, redeye issues
With the exception of its five megapixel Real Imaging Processor the DSC W5/DSC W15 is almost identical to its big brother, the very popular (7 megapixel) Sony DSC W7. The Sony DSC W5/DSC W115 was designed to appeal to veteran snap-shooters and family ...

An Incredible Find For The Price

by AtlantaGreg Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 27 '05
Pros: Great image quality. Good AF assist light that WORKS. Price for what you get.
Cons: Awkward hand grip. Limited f-stops in manual mode. Need PRO stick for best movie mode.
Intro: These days, potentially bad cameras are usually reserved to off branded or lesser-known brands you see in office supply stores and on Ebay auctions. We’re at the point in digital camera design that pretty much any camera you buy from a ...

DSC W5 may not be what are you looking for

by micrane , Dec 09 '05
Pros: very good outdoor/bright light performance
Cons: lack of controls, poor low-light performance
Intro I purchased W-5 to complement Sony F-717 which we already own. F717 is large and powerful camera, and I was looking for a camera that can be used to carry around at all times and which would take great outdoor pictures but would not ...

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W5 Digital Camera

by darogers , Aug 23 '06
Pros: Compact, robust, manual & automatic modes, multiple focusing modes
Cons: none
Personally I would love to go back to my totally manual 35mm camera, but the convenience of digital photography is too great. I personally like to have as many manual features at I can get so I’m the one deciding if a picture is how I want it. While I ...

Sony Cyber-Shot = Great Buy

by ziren , Aug 21 '07
Pros: Macro, Fast, Adv. Settings, Quality Prints
Cons: Videos don't have sound.
My first digital camera, a 2 mega pixel Sony Cyber-Shot, was a high school graduation present from my Dad. I loved my camera and, for 2 MP resolution capabilities, it produced great photos. Five years down the road I decided to make an upgrade. I was ...

by phillatio , Sep 04 '06
Pros: Its all good!
Cons: Folks here are Professional WHINERS!
My digital camera is a work tool and lives in a pouch on my hip with my Engineers Field Book, so its got to be small and dependable. the Sony W5 is both. I transitioned up from the P52 Cybercam (a nice workhorse in itself)and have found the W5 to be ...

Nice camera

by humdec , Dec 22 '07
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: None for this price and type.
This was my second digital camera. I bought it the same day my daughter was having a party so there was no time to get familiar with it, much less read the user's guide and then explain it to my wife. I had to give the camera to my wife as soon as I got ...

Sony Cyber-Shot Digital Camera
by nausscb ,May 25 '06
Pros: Internal memory, efficient on batteries, good zoom, lots of functions for specialty pictures
Cons: Lens can get stuck after hard use (10 months), but Sony fixes it under warranty.
I have had 2 of these cameras. They have been great for me thus far. I like Sony's cameras because they are easy to use and understand. The zoom functions are great and the very large (2.5") LCD screen gives the user much to look at on the back of the camera.

Would NOT buy again
by sandkat ,Dec 03 '09
Pros: Has lots of bells and whistles
Cons: Battery eater, complicated, overpriced brand name
I researched online before buying this camera. I felt that it would be a good 'next step up' from the beginner's camera I had before. Not only was it much more complicated and difficult to learn than I was led to believe, it now turns out that its also a tempermental battery eater too. I have had nothing but trouble with it, charged and changed batteries, called Sony for help and was told - "You will have to send it in - $55 minimum repair charge." Heck for that $$ I can buy a cheap replacement and toss it when it gets 'old'.

Don't waste your $$$ on this brand name.

Not a bad camera overall
by russiand ,Jan 03 '07
Pros: Sturdy, well built case. Menu system is simple and intuitive. Great outdoor performance. Viewfinder.
Cons: Photos often blurry indoors! LCD makes quality of shot hard to tell.
I have had this camera for a year and a half now. Overall it is a pretty good camera and outdoors it takes awesome pictures. I have had blurring issues with it on occasion and am not sure if my hands shake or the auto focus function is not working quite right. The bad thing is that when looking at the LCD it is hard to tell whether you took a blurry picture or not. Most of the issues have been when taking pictures indoors. That said I have taken some very beautiful photos with this camera as well. Additionally I had this camera repaired under warranty, because the selector wheel on top was malfunctioning. It would start changing modes on its own. In general I would recommend Casio or Cannon instead of this camera.

nice point and shot
by wladston ,Mar 18 '07
Pros: good resolution, good price
Cons: No manual mode, no battery report in minutes.
Nice camera. Has a intuitive system that explains you what the icons mean.

Good resolution, strong flash. Lacks the manual mode, to adjust exposure time and aperture, but for the average point and shooter it should be a great camera.

I hate having to press a top button in order to view the photos. Also, the system doesn't say how many minutes you have left on the battery, only shows an indicator.

When taking face pictures, the flash sometimes gets too bright for the photo, this is something I don't like about it too.
