Pros: Looks, ease of setup, picture quality, inputs, features Cons: Price, speakers, remote designed for looks, not for functionality
The Sony DAV-C900 is a complete home theater package that includes a 5-disc DVD/CD changer that also plays SACD, four surround speakers with stands, a center speaker and a subwoofer.
Pros: Looks very trick, fairly flexible, good picture, decent sound, PLAYS CDRs (finally) Cons: High priced (coming down though) looks much better than it sounds
I don't want to make this sound completely negative from the get go...Sony makes some great consumer level products, so with that said, I'd like to NOT slughter this product *(like I did to MY Sony 1075 receiver) because you need to look at this product...
Pros: Price, Features, Sound Quality, Subwoofer, Styling, Etc... Cons: Sound Can Get Tinny During Music Or When You Need It Loud
I have had the chance to hear out the Sony DAV-C900 Dream Home Theater system. I have noticed that Sony's new home theater and speaker packages have become more popular. I did not like the previous system because the speakers seemed a little too weak and...
Pros: Looks good. picture quality is great. Plays SACD's. Cons: Mine was broken! No SVCD or MP3 discs. Only average sound quality.
Up until buying the "DVD Dream System" DAV-C900, I was a big fan of Sony products. For just a little more money, you got more features, and better quality/reliability, or so I thought.
If you're new to home theater, or just want to set up a...
Pros: Great appearance, nice clear sound, intuitive use, space saving design, adequate subwoofer Cons: Awful remote, no menus while operating, lack of inputs, not sure looks justify price premium
There's really no mistaking this unit: the brushed metal stands, the long rectangular prisms for sp ...
Pros: SACD capability, 5 disc DVD; DTS + Dobly; CDR+VCD readable! Cons: bass too soft; need to put some lights on the remotes; lack of inputs
The system is packaged in a 35kg box that will fit behind a truck or the first seat of a larger coupe. First of all, it only took 30 minutes to setup this system. The speaker wires are color-coded to the speaker and the receiver. Under the speaker...
Pros: appearance, high quality, bang for the buck, simplicity, ease of use Cons: poor remote, limited expansion options, slow disc changer, limited amplifier controls
Right now, I'm kicking back in my living room enjoying my Sony DAV-C900 DVD Dream Home Theater System. I'm using digital cable to pipe in commercial free audio. I've now owned the C900 for just shy of a year, and this household has been very happy with...
Pros: compact, modern, sleek, all latest techs, great sound Cons: 600 watts total ,Subwoofer almost nonexistant
Being a sony fan, I was happy to see this system at a price I could afford. This system is neat, simple, easy-to-install (except the rear speaker wire, which, in order to run, as with most surround sound systems, you may have to drill holes in your floor...
Pros: Easy setup, looks and sounds great Cons: Slow, crappy remote, little bass
This system is a great entry level home theater system. The wires are color coded and labled making setup a breeze even for the novice. The floor mounted speakers look great and running wire under the carpet is much easier than mounting speakers on the...
Pros: Great Looking, Value, Clarity , Ease of Use, SACD Cons: Lack of Power, Slow Change of Discs
I had been looking to purchase a home theater system to compliment my 36" Sony Vega, and found the perfect match in the DAV-900 after reading a favorable review in a local magazine.
-THE PURCHASE-
I purchased the system from 6ave.com for...
Pros: Easy set-up, uses little space, sounds good, looks great. Cons: Not for audiophiles. Remote control feels fragile. Only works with included speakers, no others.
My wife selected the DAV-C990 without my knowledge, and I was skeptical at first. I assumed that buying a DVD/receiver in one unit was like buying a TV/VCR combo. The price put me off a little as well.
I bought this system because it looked great, and I've had good luck with Sony in the past. A friend of mine also has the same system and seems to be happy with it. That's why I was hugely disappointed when I took it out of the box, and it would...
Pros: The best all in one system for the money Cons: sound fields are ok, but i would rather have 7 band EQ
This system is so easy to setup. Sony did an excellent job packaging this thing. For instance, the surround speakers come with 50 feet of speaker wire each. The C900 is the top of the line dream system, and what hooked me was the speaker stands. Heck, a...
Pros: Very sleek, cool look, easy to set up, easy to use Cons: Not upgradeable
I like the system over all, but there are a couple of things that bother me about it. First and foremost is the fact that I can't add any components to it. I have other equipment (VCR, Video Game Console) that I want to add, but can't. In this aspect,...
Pros: Outstanding Quality, sound, value. Cons: Must have the manual handy
After looking around for a system that contained outstanding quality, sound and value we settled on this unit. While it requires reading the manual and having it handy at all times to make those required adjustments based on what you watch, it is worth...
This Sony DAV-C900 is an amazing piece of work; from the packing job and ease of setup to the crystal clear quality audio heard from it's five speakers. It literally is a "plug and play" operation. The color-coded speaker wires are a dream, and slim...
Pros: 5 CD changer for DVD/CD, flashy looking speakers, 450 watts of speaker power Cons: Speakers are deceptively weak, pricey
Generally, Sony's products are well-worth their inflated prices. However, in this case one cannot be so sure. Sony has once again created a aesthetically attractive product fit for almost every family room. Yet, better systems exists and even some for...
Dream system has been a nightmare by snobrdr314 ,Aug 31 '04
Pros: Nice packaging and sleek design compliment any room Cons: Low powered bass doesn't give much punch, too unpredictable, bad quality control.
Bought this system after seeing it in a home theater in-store setup. I liked how the components looked and was sold by the AV tech that said component pieces couldn't work better then Sony's latest. I'm beginning to think this dream will end in a cold sweat!
When the unit does work it works great. Picture quality is good, and setup of movie sound is simple. I think the remote could have been laid out better, but it does work with other Sony remotes and this is easily upgraded.
Now for the bad news:
Between spells of the DVD freezing up during movies, having to be shutoff and restarted, a remote that sometimes has a mind of it's own, the unit occasionally not recognizing DVD's and a purely underpowered subwoofer. I'd have to call this system average. I think Sony has taken advantage of their good reputation the last few years and turned out some products that perform sub-par on the market.
Sony DAV-C900 is a Nightmare Home Theater System by bnice09 ,Dec 11 '04
Pros: None Cons: DVD FREEZE
I bought this product in June of 2003. It was a Sony so I had some measure of comfort that it would perform like other Sony products I had purchased in the past. It failed at almost every level. It's good looks take a hit when you settle into to listen to it. It lacks power and clarity. The 5 disc carousel is annoying to operate(load one at a time). It was slow to load and skip between discs. You can only watch one DVD at a time I still do not know why this is such an attractive option. Then after the factory warranty expired the DVD player began to freeze up. I have been a lifetime Sony fan but this product fails to meet up to it's reputation. It looks great but will leave you cold. I wish I would have brought this back the first day instead thought I would learn to like it and I am now out about 800.00 Do not buy this.
Pros: Looks good Cons: Very slow in loading discs. Does not play audio CD very well.
The dream system has a great look and feel to it. It goes very well with other Sony products and thats what tricked us into buying it. The sound quality seemed reasonable compared to BOSE. But the DVD player/Receiver simply sucks. It is very slow, takes forever to load a disc. Unluckily for us it does not play any Audio CDs. Sometimes skips them or sometimes just gets stuck. It is supposed to support all formats but none of my MP3 CDs play in it. DVDs are fine. I have sent my player to Sony. Lets see what they do about it.
Pros: everything Cons: I honestly found nothing to dislike about this system
I had the pleasure of living with this system for a time. There is nothing like it anywhere. the sound is pure power. crystal clear digital sound with many options to enhance the experience. I would not let this system get away.
Pros: Pretty Cons: Bad bass, bad remote, not big enough sound. Pricey.
My reviews are based on the overall feelings of past consumers who I have come into contact with regarding their systems. Being in the electronics industry, I am hopefully able to give you an accurate picture of the overall consumer feeling on the products I review:
Aesthetic Appeal: A+
Price: B
Sound: B+
Bass: C
Richness: B+
No airiness or fuzziness: A
Max Volume: A
Overall Sound: B+
Setup: A+
Ease of Use: A+
Notes: There are generally three complaints i get about this system. 1) The bass sucks. 2) The remote is hard to use, and is designed for looks, not for actually working. 3) The price is too high for what you get, and the sound isn't up to snuff. Some good things: It is beautiful to look at, the player works well, and the richness of the sound is pretty nice.
