Pros: Easy to use, good picture for the price. Cons: Low battery life.
The Sony DCR-TRV 350 (from now on called the 350 in this review) is a camcorder you can most certainly rely on for your home footage needs whatever the subject. Maybe you are looking at recording your loved animals, such as Fluffy the kitten, or your ...
Pros: Great camera with loads of features for a low price. Cons: LCD display kills the battery quickly.
Last spring my wife and I collected a very handsome return from Uncle Sam for the previous year and we decided to spend it all on ourselves for a change (as opposed to paying off credit cards, bills and the like). My wife bought herself a Plymouth ...
Pros: 20x optical zoom, plays 8mm analog tapes, fair price, it's digital, good color, reasonable sharpness Cons: No 16:9 steadyshot, heavy and bulky, video not as sharp as some higher Mega-pixel models
I was looking for a new camera to upgrade from my old Sony 8mm analog camcorder, and my primary concern was the quality of video in the 16:9 mode. I also thought that if the camera worked out, it would be convenient to play back my old analog tapes with ...
Pros: 20X Optical Zoom, Analog inputs, passthrough, backward compatible Cons: Battery life, Must use screen to adjust camera settings, Bottom loading and tripod mount
As a parent, I have a collection of tapes that include VHS and 8MM that I wanted to convert to DVD. This camcorder is backward compatible with the 8MM tapes, and the digital passthrough feature makes migrating the VHS tapes a snap. It is also equipped ...
Pros: many features; firewire, usb, s-vid, a/v jacks Cons: poor resolution, barely tv quality
i am used to the sony dsc-85 4Mpixel digital camera and the sharpness of the still photos...this handycam needs to be zoomed up on people to see any details, but just not the same at gross 460Kpix w/ effective 290Kpix. the wide/telephoto button is hard...
Pros: Easy to use, good price Cons: No memory stick or tape included
Also considered Canon zr60. Consumer reports review introduced us to this Sony and we went with their recommendation due to the reliability measures of Sony versus Canon. Hesitated a little over the fact that it was D8 rather than miniDV. Went w/ this ...
Pros: Very Good Video quality. Ability to record MPEGS on Memory Stick, and much more! Cons: Keep your digital camera for the stills. So-So battery life, especially with included battery.
You can't go wrong with a Sony. The features of this digital8 camcorder are awesome. I am very glad I made the decision I did! From Sony's Night Shot Mode, right down to its editing capabilities this camera will meet every need in your book. The only...
Pros: Very inexpensive, good quality, easy to use, feels solid, easy computer connection. Cons: 8mm Tapes hard to find, cameras hard to find new, tripod blocks tape release.
I own two of these models, both as backups for my HD camcorder. I've been shooting broadcast quality footage on both of these cameras for several years without any major issues. The Digital 8mm format is hard to find, but is dirt cheap. I've purchased ...
Pros: Sony brand name Cons: NO Date/Time superimposing available
We thought we'd try this newer Handycam out, as we have had experience with an older Sony Handycam that we were very pleased with. We purchased this one because it was the most advanced model that our old Super-8 tapes were compatible with. BUT, today,...
Pros: Lot's of features. Can playback existing Hi8 recordings. Cons: Noisy. Mediocre picture quality.
Unfortunately I don't have a lot to say about this camcorder. I took it out of the box. Powered it up using the AC power supply. Started recording. Played-back the recording. Heard slight motor noise in the recording. Noticed that picture quality was...
Firewire Broke on third use by dcovey54 ,Apr 15 '05
Pros: easy to use, great battery life, good video quality Cons: Firewire broke on third use
I like my camcorder, it takes good video, but I didn't have a robust enough PC to take advantage of the firewire until 8 months after I bought the camera. Then the third time I used the firewire, it didn't work. I was a real Sony fan, thought they had good quality and most of my electronics are Sony, but my Sony TV went down three weeks later, so either I'm the problem, or Sony isn't as high a quality product as I thought.
Pros: picture quality Cons: Brand new models may be defective
The DV out jack of the camera does not work. I've put a new firewire card and port and bought a new firewire (also known as iLink and IEEE), and it still doesn't work. I'm trying to download the video into Adobe Premiere Elements, which I paid $100 for. The same connections and wire work perfectly well with a friend's Canon camera. I spent 3 hours on the phone with Adobe and they concluded it was the camera. Of course, the warrantee has already run out. Sony repair at an authorized dealer is $269 flat fee.
I bought this camera with the specific interest of downloading video to the computer, and I can't do it because the camera is defective.
Solid performer with advanced features, good price by clwhipper ,Jul 17 '07
Pros: Sony quality, ease of use. No manual even needed for basic use Cons: Battery life a little low but acceptable as for its' use.
I have been using this for a couple of years now and it is a great, solid, easy to use camcorder. Its large array of a/v jacks should keep it useful for years to come. While the HI8
format is less popular than mini DV, it works fine for me.
Really nice for the price. by shagenhoes ,Dec 16 '03
Pros: The LCD display has great clarity, 20x optical zoom!, built in light. Cons: The battery with the camera sucks. The fact that USB streaming is off by default.
The 350 is my first digital camcorder and I really like it. I was going to buy mini dv but when I tried out the 350 and noticed that there is not much difference and the features of the 350 blow away any mini dv at the same price the decision was easy. I am using the camera mainly for movies and the in/out firewire connection is awesome.
You want digital photos? BUY A DIGITAL CAMERA!!! by casper66 ,Feb 16 '04
Pros: Excellent features, Great price, Very nice video quality, low light recording works very well. Cons: Could use a bigger battery and it does not come with a memory stick.
The Sony TRV-350 is an excellent choice. You can't beat all the features for the money. I got mine back before Christmas (2003) and I have not had a single problem with it. I have made and sent videos to my family using the memory card as well as transferred video from tape to the memory stick. This camera pretty much does it all.
Pros: Excellent value, extremely user friendly, lots of features, and it's a Sony. Cons: It's heavy, gave me a sore neck.
I like this camera a lot. I choose it over the JVC miniDV. My camera is one month old and no complaints so far. Well, it's too heavy to carry around my neck for a day. Sony should include a carry case with shoulder strap.
The most Affordable and Quality camcorder out there...this coming from a video fanatic!! by misterb233 ,Oct 28 '03
Pros: super nightshot, manual focus, 20x optical zoom, image stabilization, digital still memory mode, mic input Cons: NONE
I recently purchased the Sony DCR-TRV350 after finally deciding to sell my other Panasonic mini dv camera. The Sony is just loaded with so many more features. I edit and create films on my own time and hope to go into a career on it after highschool. It is extremely easy to use and all of the buttons are positioned in the perfect places unlike some camcorders. The features are just awesome including the super night shot and great manual focus for you advanced users. Along with 20x optical zoom and a mic input its great for you video nuts.
This is a good camera... by bears_dt3000 ,Mar 03 '03
This is a good camera for the non-professional video enthusiast. Easy to use and handle, and offering many features and choices, it's a great way to catch those precious life moments that will stay with us forever. Don't however, expect high resolution, high quality imagery and sound. Still, it's offers enough quality for most of us.
