Sony Handycam® DCR-TRV840 Digital-8 Camcorder

I bought this without doing all of my reasearch, I wanted a digital camera that would take pictures. Well it takes really poor pictures, I even called to see if there was an error on my camcorder. I wish I would have at least gotten the TRV840, or better yet purchased a less expensive camcorder and the P9 Cyber Shot, which is what a Sony customer service rep advised me to do now.

This video camera is easy to use. It however can not take good digital pictures. Even still shots at 4 to 5 feet come out blurred or the color is off. Way off. To take pics in less light you will need a flash....more extras. Even in edit you can not improve the pics enough. For downloading short video it is great! But for next time I will not get the two in one.

Camera performed very well in most situations.Backlight a little tricky to get used to. Sound xclnt when hooked to monitor. Easy to handle, controls convenient. Recommend for all dig-8 users.

Great features and all. Easy to handle and Megapixel means alot. But programming can be hassel. No date stamps when recording.

As I stated before, the camera handles well. The sound is great as long as your subject doesn’t mind speaking up. I captured crickets & other outdoor sounds OK, but not my narration. ;) There are plenty of special effects and programming features. Comes with a remote too. However, it lacks an entire tape counter. It only shows elapsed times of scenes, but not elapsed/remaining on the tape. Also, it doesn’t really find scene breaks as far as I can tell yet. But taking into account all its great features, I have to give this camera a five-star rating. A !!!

High tech junk! I bought the 840 after long deliberation. It is very complicated but worst of all, it has already stopped working. I have treated this thing like an infant and only used two tapes and it has failed to operate. I have a little dribblers basketball game on half of one tape that I not only cannot watch but the machine ate the tape. I'm sorry I wasted my money. I got it off the internet so who knows where to go to have it repaired. Jeff Sloan San Saba, Texas
