Pros: Excellent images, great battery life, fast Lens, start-up/cycle/shutter lag times, night-low light capabilities, and price. Cons: EVF, Sony Memory Stick proprietary storage media, and ergonomics.
In December of last year my friend (who sells and distributes digital and analog photographic equipment) and I discussed doing a comprehensive/comparative test of all five, 5 megapixel digital cameras. We’ve already tested the Nikon D1X, The Nikon...
Pros: Picture quality, features, battery life, use of "standard" Sony parts - MemoryStick, battery, etc Cons: Only 16Mb Memory Stick supplied
Just a short while ago, the digital cameras produced pictures that couldn’t be compared to the regular 35-mm photos. And they cost much more than the film-based cameras. Although the prices are still higher than those of the film-based models, the...
Pros: Crisp, detailed images. Nice 5x Optical Lens. Comparatively affordable. Cons: Ergonomics not for everyone. Electronic View Finder. Storage Medium.
In my second installment covering 5 megapixel digital cameras, the first covering the superb Nikon CoolPix 5000 (See http://www.epinions.com/content_64665063044), I'll now focus my attention, if you'll pardon that pun,...
Pros: Long battery life, 5.0 megapixel, autofocus, nightframe features Cons: Only 16 MB of memory. What were they thinking?
Although I am primarily a photographer that still uses the traditional 35 MM camera, I finally decided to make the bold step and purchase a digital camera. I decided to go with the Sony DSC-F707 because it has just about everything that a digital camera...
Pros: Fast Lens ! Quick Shutter release, good macro capabilities Cons: Size, digital viewfinder, Only comes with a 16MB memory stick.
The Sony DSC-F707 has finally made it's debut in Canada ! For those of you who have read my other reviews, you will know that I already own a Canon G2, but I have been incredibly impressed with the improvements that Sony has been making in their digital...
Pros: Great image quality and lots of options. Fast adjustment of features like shutter speed. Cons: Still getting used to weight distribution. Maybe not a camera for simple vacation photo-takers.
I got my Sony DSC-707 about three months ago. I had a digital camera before, but it was a Kodak DC 120 from 1997 - fantastic for its time, but no longer enough for me because of its lower image quality and the mysterious dust that had started to gather...
Pros: Good quality photos. Good battery life per charge. 5X optical zoom. Cons: Large and bulky, a bit awkward to hold, and well, a bit ugly.
I’ve now owned the Sony DSC-F707 for three months, and have come to like this ugly duckling of the camera world. Having owned several 1 and 2 megapixel cameras over time, I found the need to upgrade to a higher megapixel camera for larger printing...
Pros: Quality Images, Lots of Features, Cons: Sony Proprietary Memory, Occasionally Difficult Manual Focus
Sony's F707 is really for the most part an excellent entry in the 5 megapixel category. The quality of the shots and its versatility make it an easy to recommend camera.
1. Photo quality
At the lower resolutions, the camera takes decent...
Pros: Amazing lens from Carl Ziess! 5 megapixels to work with! A 5X zoom! Cons: Lack of White Balance options. Proprietary memory. Not pocket-able.
This being my fourth digital camera, I've formed opinions about the Sony product line that had me thinking I'd never buy one. First, I don't like the fact that Sony pushes their ideas of what they want the standard to be (memory/batteries). Second,...
Pros: Lens, Image Quality, value for the money! Cons: Aperture priority is limited, very proprietary, no continuous mode and only one focus zone.
I would like to start off by informing you, you're about to read one of the most well balanced reviews you'll ever read. The first question you'll probably ask is, "why is he recommending this camera?" However, if you just hang on till the end you'll...
Pros: 5 Megapixel. 3 shot burst. Manual control. Best Pro-sumer digital camera. Good battery performance. Cons: Largest memory stick is 128MB. Do not come with a case. Lots of accessories.
Well, I've had my DSC-F505v for a couple of years now and we just had our newborn Baby Boy so I was looking for another digital camera that can take burst shots because everytime we take a picture of our Boy, he would smile AFTER the fact.
Pros: High Resolution, Cool Features, More Photo Control Cons: Expensive
I'm writing this camera review assuming you know something about Sony cameras and have already checked out the features of the F707 on the web site. There's really no need for me to repeat camera features and specifications that you can read elsewhere....
Pros: Lots of manual settings, 58mm lens/filters can be used Cons: Somewhat bulky, comes with small memory stick
I purchased my DSC-F707 about a year ago for $930, and till today I still recommend this camera to all my friends. I don't consider this to be a pure "point and shoot camera" (although it could be) or a "professional SLR", it's a little of both. This is...
Pros: Megapixels, video mode, infrared option, too many to list! Cons: Price, and memory cost
I've been searching around for a digital camera for over a month now. I initially wanted to buy this camera, but was hesitant. Then, I had horrible experiences dealing with Best Buy and Broadway Camera (see my reviews on these two companies) and...
Let Me Start off By Saying that I have owned 2 Previous Digital Cameras(Kodak DC-210 Plus and a Sony Mavica FD-90) So I do write this review with some expirence. Ok, I just got this camera at Best Buy for $999 on Sunday Oct. 27 2001. I was headed there...
Pros: 5X zoom, abundant features, vivid colors Cons: Price, only memory stick and blue flash syndrome
I have never been a fan of Sony Digital Cameras for two reasons. One is the fact that it only uses their own proprietary memory stick (costs at least 2-3 times that of compact flash or smart media). Two, its always been over priced for its feature set....
I bought this at a local store for around 800 dollars. After the taxes and warranty it came to about 950 dollars, so just expect that price hike. I was not sure if I should buy it, because after all, it...
Pros: 5 Megapixel, Full Auto, Full Manual Cons: Comes with small memory stick (16 MB) and camera is rather large.
First off, I have been into photography for several decades, starting in High School. I am not a professional, but I have always loved to push the envelope in my photos. I purchased a lower end digital camera a couple of years ago and have managed to...
Pros: Takes great pictures, Takes pictures FAST, AMAZING battery life, and has a great lens! Cons: Somewhat expensive, bulky
I will not bore everyone with the technical details and features on this camera. The other reviewers cover this in detail. I am an amature photographer at best. I have 2 small kids and I want to take good pictures that I can easily get onto my PC....
Pros: Extreme Prints when setup correctly, view finder,Night shot is cool and Battery lasts long. Cons: Time to read and understand the full features of this camera. Worth it.
Sony DSC-F707 and DSC-F717 Bigger picture quality and not a bad price.... Features: *Rebate at sony.com for $100 till 1/31/04 *Rebate Circuit city.com $100 as of 1/2/04* 5-megapixel sensor creates 2,560 x 1,920 images for prints at ...
Pros: Great Pictures! Great battery life. Cons: Read the article for the cons of this camera.
Since you are reading this article, I would like to present information that would help you determine if the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-F707 is the right digital camera for you to purchase.
I listed the features that can be improved upon with this...
Pros: Decent amount of pixels at a good price. LOTS of extras. Cons: Macro capabilites have their problems. Funky shape is not copacetic with shooting or wearing.
I should first start of by saying that I paid a paltry sum for this camera, considering the price it ...
Pros: Two words: Memory Stick! Also, good battery life, incredible picture quality. Cons: Ship with 16Mb MS. Long delay when red-eye reduction turned on
I've used a number of digital cameras, but always went for the 35mm (Canon EOS Elan 7) when quality was an issue. We still use it once in a while, but not very often. We have two small children at home, and my wife was burning through film at a rate of...
Pros: picture quality, vertical swiveling lens, video capture, great Carl Zeiss lens, rugged construction Cons: electronic viewfinder, exposure sensitivity, not simple enough for true "point and shoot."
I have used this camera extensively for about 3.5 years and am now selling it in order to upgrade to an SLR with interchangeable lenses. It has faithfully and flawlessly performed on trips around the world. I've treated it nicely, but it is a very ...
Pros: Good metering, High quality, sharp and very fast 5x optical zoom lens Cons: bad lens distortion (wide angle macros), Maximum size of Memory Stick only 128 MB
I was hot for my new toy and when landed in my hands definitely meet my expectations. Great camera, well equipped with functions and hardware accessories. Don't waste time and let's jump to details:
Pros: Carl Zeiss Lens
many "pro" features
Great price
Night framing/Night Shooting
Extremely flexible
Cons: Proprietary Memory/ small memory size
Proprietary Battery
I have been in photography for about 40 years. Recently, I've been disappointed with the quality of prints I've been getting back from the developer. Because they all use the 1 hour machines and because they do not change out their chemicals often...
Pros: Fast Carl Zeiss lens. Cons: Poor white balance. LCD blanks out with manual settings.
This is an excellent camera from Sony. Sporting a Carl Zeiss lens, zooming from 38-190, being fast (f2.0) and coming in the shape that was started by the 505, this is a promising camera.
In full auto, out of the box, this machine takes sharp...
Pros: Well built, easy to handle, and takes great photos. Cons: Difficult to adjust to low light settings.
I live in a little town in Central Texas. Out here we don't have us a Best Buy or Circuit City. We've got Walmart and Harvey's Mowers. While Harvey thought about handling this fine Sony Camera, he eventually decided not to; which made obtaining it...
Pros: Titanium case, great pictures in auto mode, InfoLithium battery, 5 megapixel resolution Cons: Supplied 16MB Memory Stick a joke, no sticks available above 128MB yet
My first digital camera was the Kodak DC20, an antique by today's standards. Others followed, but I never got the quality I desired. When looking for a new camera I wanted to be able to take great pictures, have Sony quality and innovation and be fully...
Pros: Lens, build quality, many features and beautiful pics Cons: I bit big and heavy for casual photo taking.
I'm very happy with Sony products and their cybershot line is no exception. I had the Sony Cybershot F505-V for about a year and a half before I sold it to get the much upgraded Sony Cybershot F707.
Pros: HUGE resolution 5 megapixel! More zoom than average, easy to use. Cons: Kind of pricey, could maybe use some more zoom.
If you can find a camera with more features with better resolution for anywhere near this price, then you should buy it, otherwise, the 707 is for you. Unless you want to get into the pro-slr category and spend a few thousand, then this camera will do...
Pros: Great pictures, lens, features, best (for now) Cons: Different shape, $$
I have been agonizing about getting a new digital camera for a while now. My previous camera was a Sony Cybershot DSC-S50 (2 Megapixels) and I still love the swiveling screen and nice pictures (see my previous review). Being addicted to Sony products...
Pros: Great pictures, good battery life, price
Cons: Not easy for an amateur to use.
The Sony DSC-F707 Cybershot is one of the new 5 megapixel resolution cameras.
This view is from an amateur's point of view. I find the Sony DSC-F707 a little hard to use. My son-in-law has a Nikon D1X, and except for the battery life, I like...
Pros: Great SLR like performance and quality without all that film Cons: Overcompensated white balance issues in certain types of lighting
Being the network/computer nerd that I am, I love gadgets. But, I am very picky about quality vs. price when it comes to the gadgets I buy. This camera is no exception to that rule. I shopped for months and continually monitored many of the reviews at...
Pros: Great product! Incredible pictures! Very happy with my purchase. Cons: none found so far, working like a dream
Great product! Incredible pictures! Very happy with my purchase. Most superior product out there. Sony did it again!! However for all those camera afficionadoes out there I have a word of advise. I tried to buy this camera through www.bilibi.com. The...
Pros: This camera is fast, easy to use, and has a terrific zoom. Cons: It is a little large to carry.
This Sony camera far exceeds my expectations and far exceeds any other digital camera I have used. I am a high school English teacher/yearbook advisor. We are also doing an interactive CD Rom yearbook for the first time this year. So we needed a...
Pros: Professional features, outstanding quality, excellent battery life Cons: awkward to hold, no b/w mode
I admit it- I'm loyal to the Sony brand. From TVs to computers to stereo equipment, I usually go with Sony. I owned a DSC-P50 2MP digital camera before this one. I liked it so much, I wanted to get a top-of-the-line model to allow me greater flexibility...
Pros: Fast lens, fast startup time. Cons: Proprietary memory stick
With the Carl Zeise lens at the head of this front heavy camera, you have an automatic winner. The pictures are sharp, very little distortion, only when you zoom in to the max.
Memory stick is a negative as they are still stuck at 128MB....
Pros: Excellent pictures; lots of manual controls; 5x optical zoom; decent battery life; 16:9 option. Cons: Shutter delay; useless movie mode; can't use as webcam
I purchased this camera about 30 months ago when my son was one year old. It has seen tremendous use over course of the last two and a half years in several conditions. I and my wife have taken more than 10,000 pictures with this camera. We always ...
Pros: Affordable (eBay). Great step up from basic. Very flexible (read the manual!). Cons: Accessory shoe is not hotshoe. Low nat light noisey.
I've used this camera as a backup for a couple years and have few complaints. Despite the availability of 10MP+ cams now, I'd suggest this one for anyone who wants to enhance his/her knowledge of digital photography. (Great deals on it on eBay, too). ...
I have had many digitals, but this is by far the best (and most expensive). I am no pro, but I take pictures for my company all the time, and I often get asked, "Who, How, Where, Can I get..." It is so easy to use this camera, my 3 year old takes photo's...
Pros: Many Features, Many Options, CONVERSATIONAL PIECE! Cons: Expensive! Slow capturing time (but perhaps with remedy).
I had compared this camera with others available at FUTURE SHOP. The products included CANON, PENTAX. Out of these products I had decided the Sony F707 for the following features:
- night vision (able to see in the dark but capturing
b/w...
Pros: Best lenses, lots of battery, easy use,
good for the price.
Cons: Horrible warranty service plus nightmare of USB interface.
I think the other reviewers have more than underscored the good points of this camera. I would just add that it has less blue fringing at the corners than any other 5 MPixel (that's a good thing).
Pros: Professional quality, more features than you could ever wish for, excellent quality of photos Cons: Not Windows XP friendly, very expensive, very difficult to use
The Sony DSC-F707 is an extremely well built camera with enough features to keep you busy long enough learning how to fully use it until the next big camera breakthrough is invented. At 5.0 Megapixels you get a crystal clear picture, a...
The camera produces magnificent images: sharp and great color (only saturated reds come out too strong). The lens is in part responsible for that: it seems extraordinarily sharp, it opens up to f2.0, and has a wonderful zoom range. Low light...
Pros: Long Battery Life
User friendly features
Cons: Flash produces red-eye
Included memory stick is inadequate
After playing around with my mother's Sony DSC-F707 camera, I found myself ready to replace my Canon G1. It wasn't that the G1 wasn't a good camera, it was that the DSC-F707 was much better for my uses. At 5 megapixels, the image quality of the...
Pros: Incredible image quality. Nightshot! Can be fully manual. Cons: 16MB memory stick that it comes with is useless - go 128MB. Odd to handle.
So I spent days and weeks looking for the best digital camera easily available to consumers. After reading many reviews, spec sheets, and opinions, we chose the Sony F707. It's strange to handle at first but once you get past that, it has everything we...
Pros: Awesome pictures, ease of use and wonderful features. Cons: Comes with a too small memory stick.
I have owned my Sony F707 now for three weeks and I just love it. I expected the pictures to be good, I just did not know how good till I started using it. Do I sound happy, you bet! One of my best purchases. I am also very sad that I wasted $5000 of...
Pros: Excellent picture quality...the Zeiss lens is awesome! Cons: None
I must disagree with the previous reviewer...this is a great camera. Whereas his primary objections were with ergonomics and the memory stick...these are a matter of personal preference. The most important factors to me are ease/speed of use, battery...
Pros: Easy to handle, great funstionality, great resolution Cons: Expensive
This is the hottest camera on the market. While it comes at a hefty price you will save money in the long run. With an additional $150 investment in a photo printer you will never have to go to the film developer again. Thus the big savings. In terms...
Pros: Great quality, balance and color of photos. Zoom is superior. Cons: scroll button hard to press directly in. Zoom button on the side of lens.
We have had the camera for about 2 years now and are very happy with the quality of the prints. We have taken over 7000 pictures already and printed 8x11 prints that have come out professional quality.
Professional Quality & Features at Home Consumer Price by ken579 ,Jan 24 '04
Pros: Awesome features. Great pictures for a great price. Professional controls. Cons: 90 day parts & labor warranty. Possible reliability issues.
I've had many great pictures with my Sony-FD707 over two years. Features are numerous, and the picture quality is fine. I write this review to find out if there are other people experiencing reliability problems. Reliability has been my only issue with this camera. From day one, it left white horizonal line(s) in pictures taken with TIFF mode. Within a year the body seperated at the focus ring. These items were fixed within the 1 year parts warranty. Now, out of the blue, the camera turns itself on and off and inconsistantly fails to recognize the memory stick. I won't rule out the memory stick inconsistancy as a memory stick problem.
Sony proprietary, non-compatible Memory SUCKs - and way more expensive by yuwlyuwl ,Aug 29 '04
Pros: none Cons: Sony proprietary, non-compatible Memory SUCKs - and way more expensive
Reader take note: if you want a house of SONY products each requiring a memory type non-compatible with another or anything else in the world, go for SONY.
Otherwise, stay away from SONY whenever you can!
I bought DSC 707, now I'm stuck with MemoryStick while only MemoryStick PRO is sold in most stores; if I buy a DSC 717 (or any recent SONY model) then I cannot use the MemoryStick in my DSC 707.
SONY incompatible stuff simply SUCKS.
I'll NEVER buy a sony piece of $hit again. Ever. (Just recently bought
Plus, MemoryStick etc. is way more expensive than CompactFlash. (~twice).

Pros: Good Image Quality Cons: Everything else including the price.
This unit has plenty of good things about it. Sony has tried to incorporate all kinds of goodies in it so it may seem worth the price...well get pulled into it...it's a good deal. The apeture size may be limited and so is the focus, but it is still pretty good for such a camera. Of course, if you're into professional photography, always buy something more expensive than this. Buy a Cannon or an Olympus. This Sony unit won't cut it. Its bad thing is that it takes forever to take a picture. The MPEG movie is of very poor quality due to its very limited time and space on the memory stick.
Whoa! What a joy! This... by jeff)_dt3000 ,Jun 06 '02
Whoa! What a joy! This is my fifth digicam. My last, a Toshiba pdr-m70 NEVER took an in-focus picture. This Sony has everything, and the one thing that is not listed in the specifications is FUN!!! A salesman at Circuit City told me that he has sold many of the F707s, and that customers are so elated, they come back into the store to thank him, and they often bring examples of the printed pictures that they have taken.....When he showed me a GORGEOUS 11x14 that an older man had taken, I was speechless, and I yanked my credit card out of my wallet faster than I had ever done before! You cannot take a bad picture with this camera....even in total darkness! I'm EXTREMELY pleased with my purchasing decision. (I take so many pictures of my 5 year old with this camera that he is beginning to think that his father has developed a long metallic looking growth on the end of his face!)
Get this camera..... and don't waste any more time looking at anything else!
This is my 3rd digicam,... by billy_dt3005 ,Apr 03 '02
This is my 3rd digicam, and by far the best. It is very easy to use, and you can make 8x10 and even 11x14 enlargements of the images you take. This camera has thoroughly convinced me to leave film behind forever, and I'll soon be selling all of my 35mm equipment.
Iam a professional photographer and... by prorick_dt3000 ,Aug 24 '02
Iam a professional photographer and this camera went above and beyond my expectations. Before I bought this camera, I have already owned a Nikon F-5 35mm Slr camera, a Nikon D-100 Digital camera, and a Nikon 5700 Digital camera which I spent $15,000 ! This Sony Cybershot Dsc-F707 became my all-time use camera. It is easy to use, and even my 5 yr old brother can use it! Its amazing to see a camera that a professional or a fool can use. The pictures are superb and the quality of the Sony picture is even better than the quality of nikon's pictures which I invested thousands of dollars in. Accessories are easy to find and I have purchased them all and all of them work in accordance with the sony camera. All I can say is this sony camera is a great value and is truly remarkable and that which I can recommend to a friend or anyone who likes taking pictures!
Taken over 1,000 shots so... by jack_h._dt3000 ,Dec 01 '02
Taken over 1,000 shots so far. The camera comes very close to the quality 35mm Canon I previously used. The benefits of seeing your shot right away and then later being able to alter are a definite pluse over film. Sony had done a great job of bringing digital to the next stage as useful tool.
Poor online support. No email... by markp_dt3000 ,Jun 09 '02
Poor online support. No email access to get answers. The drivers are not very good and sometimes you can download a picture to your computer and sometimes you can't. The drivers provided are missing the file,"hal.dll and it causes the software to not function at times. When I contacted Sony they said it was in the Photo Suite software and to contact them and not bother Sony about it. I don't believe that is accurate info and they sluffed me off. They need to update the drivers ASAP!Ok, but they need to work out driver issues. The zoom control is in a bad location, not easy to use, you have to look up and position your hand in an awkward way to activate it. Difficult to get support help. Long wait to get accessories, if not impossible.
Picture sharpness below expectation despite... by picky_dt3000 ,Jul 07 '02
Picture sharpness below expectation despite proper setting even in highest resolution and sharpness. Unable to figure out how to reduce gigantic pictures while retaining supposed maximum resolution. Difficult to crop in Photosuite 8.1. Support people uninformed and cut me off three times when couldn't answer questions while supposedly checking. Can't find out maximum shutter speed for use with flash. My friend's other well-known make digital camera doesn't have any of these problems. My digital venture is a near flop and I am back to using my 40-yrs old M-3 Leica.
this is my sec digital camera, my first was a MVC-FD81 sony Mavica, I use it for four year and love it. But I needed a big zoom and that was what sold me on the 707. I use is for bike run and for our web sit. Take's great pictures well worth the price. The first option I got was the 128 Memory stick.

great toy,a hit at functions and sporting events in my homeland, instant easy superb quality memories.Love the memory stick, must use a 128 K,should have 2 or 3.Works great with a Sony Vaio,to store your pics.Great toy for the amateur photographer. Trinidad West Indies
I have a Nikon F-5 35 mm with 3 AFS lens . I paid
over $5500.00 for the set up . This very small Sony
707 takes pictures that look like the F-5 or better .
No kidding you ! I just don't know how far these digital
camera's are going to go . Why dod I spend all that money
on the F-5 ? I don't know ! Ok, More zoom . Thats it !
Take your 5 mega pixel pictures and put them on a C.D.s and
take them to your nearest Kinko's and have them put
them on their lazer printer ! WOW ! What pictures !
If any of you have a H.P. lazer jet , you know what Im
talking about ! WOW ! Thank you sony for making us a
wonderful camera . Now lets have more memory on the
memory sticks !!
I got this camera a week ago, and wow! this is a beauty. Trendy, with good looks and a lot of features for an enthusiast. I fell in love with this 5 megapixel soon as I bought it. The lens are of superior quality and they dont let you down under any lighting conditions. My only problem, the camera is a little heavier than I thought
This is my second Digital... by nubber_dt3000 ,Jul 13 '02
This is my second Digital Camera. I have been using the Kodak DC 210 Plus for over 4 years and did not want to upgrade until I found a camera that really improved my pictures enough to justify the expense. This is it. I saw some pictures that a friend took with a DSC-F707 and I had to get one. I am not a pro, but I take a great deal of pictues for work and pleasure. This camera really gives me the definition I needed for work and makes me a hit at family functions, as I am able to print beautiful pictures of all the kids and old folks to pass around and also e-mail to far off friends. Buy it, You'll like it.
This is my first D/C ...and the only thing I ask myself "What took me so long!!!" I take it everywhere I go. My friend's and family's always want to use it. I tell them to get there own. So get one.....well, why are you still here....GO AND GET ONE!!!!
Bought camera and I loved... by steffan_dt3000 ,Mar 24 '02
Bought camera and I loved its feel and clarity.
But four flash units I own are useless.
You must buy additional proprietary flash to use slaves and then the white balance is at risk.
My rating reflects the lack of satisfaction I received from the help site and their ignoring the issue.
We have owned for six months. Even the "serious" photographers in the family have been impressed. We all use most of the automatic settings most of the time. As with most cameras, using the flash generally produces harsh images. The wide aperture of the lens allows for shooting people shots in natural light most of the time. The results are much more pleasing than with flash. The five megapixel resolution is well served by the Zeiss optics!
We have used the movie mode much more than we expected we would. Short movies really enhance our digital slideshows.
Two friends/relatives have purchased this camera after seeing my photos. One commented that photos taken of tall ships looked better than being there!
The camera is bulky compared with a pocket camera, but the results are much better. The camera weighs about one pound less than our comparable film camera.
I had the DSC-505v and loved it. The 707 is the grown up version, with all the control over the media (film speed, apature, everything!) that you would expect from a professional camera. Add some special effects and cool high-tech features and it beats film cameras out the door. For the price, I don't see how you can live without one.
Changed from a Mavica to this 5 months ago.Suggest get a 128 MB RAM stick. You can just go on and on. Transferring is a breeze specially with XP. Tilt lenses save neck strain.Sony should attach a transparent cover on LCD Panel to protect it.Manual functions not that great. Video excellent.Difficult to carry all the time. Very, very reliable.Definitely best in the world now.

I currnetly own two Sony... by e.red._dt3000 ,Oct 27 '02
I currnetly own two Sony digital cameras, one being a Sony digital video/still shot camera and the Sony 707. I have taken some of the most incredible pictures with the 707 I have ever taken. I keep the 707 on the mid range of resolution - for me - it is all I need, and provides incledible resolution. Useing a couple of 128MB disks, I was able to take more pictues in a month on the road than I would have been able to afford in film.
This is my 5th digital... by garry_dt3001 ,Oct 20 '02
This is my 5th digital camera and 3rd Sony. This is a very easy to use camera. The quality of the pictures are excellent. It is easy to crop and resize pictures from the camera. I always shoot at the highest resolution and reduce based on need. I have shot approx. 400 pictures with flash at a wedding. The battery life was one of the selling points for me. When compared with other cameras this camera had the longest battery life. You can literally focus on any item, even at distance of less than 1/4 inch from the lens. A ring flash would be perfect. You might have to carry two or three 128Meg memory sticks to make up for the capacity. Excellent Camera from a Great Company!
I made A lot of investigation before I purchase the Sony DSC-F707. Everything about this camera is incredible. This is indeed the best digital camera in the world. Anybody who sees what this camera can do are in disbelieve. The combination of this camera and the Epson 785EPX is just perfect. When these 2 machines work together, you can really get results much, much better than any 35mm camera. After I purchased these 2 machines, I said goodbye to my 35mm camera. All the pictures I took in the park are beatiful, and every time I show these pictures to somebody they immediately ask me how I did, and when I tell them how they all want to buy the camera. great optics, with the exceptions that wide angle is no available 28mm or 24mm to start with , proprietary battery is definetly not a way to go if you travel internationaly alot and specialy on remote areas.
overall decent camera
recomended
This is my third Sony Digital Camera. It is well worth the money if you can afford it. It does everything that is advertisted about it. People I show my photos to think they are from a 35mm with film. I prefer 64 meg memory sticks with not as many pictures to load to the PC at one time. I suggest plenty of memory sticks and the external add on flash for great indoor pictures and greatly reduced red-eye.
This is the second digital... by dave1_dt3000 ,Sep 22 '02
This is the second digital I have owned for any length of time. The first was a Sony FD 95, which was stolen. While I have to amitt, the 5 mega-pixels of the 707 does surpass the 2.1 of the FD 95 for most shots, the FD 95 far out does the 707 on macros, also the times 10 zoom of the 707 pales when compared to the times 20 of the 95. Another of my gripes about the 707 is the image that you see in the viewfinder isn't the same as what you get, again unlike the 95 where "what you see is what you get". Sony no longer makes the FD 95 or the FD 97 (which is pretty much the same camera) I wish they did, the 707 sure doesn't replace it.
The only thing I recommend is if your going to ad and external lens(wide angle, telephoto)is to get an external flash. With a wide angle lens it works fine in MPEG mode but if you take stills half the shot will be dark do to the lens blocking half of the factory flash.
