Pros: small, lightweight, can hold a LOT of pictures with 128 meg memory stick, video feature. Cons: Videos are not clear if dark and in highest resolution is limited to 30 secs.
I first started to research for a digital camera last summer, because I didn't want to bring a non-digital camera on vacation.
I've seen some pictures from other digital camera where the color looks a little off and I was worried about that...

durable, practical and worth the value
by annhuang ,Oct 18 '03
Pros: ease of use, quality, convenience Cons: weight, size, time
I got this camera a little more than a year ago and it has been working great. it's really easy to use and it's simple but isn't lacking in its functions. it's also really great if you happen to use a sony computer, as i do, cuz u just pop in the memory stick - no need for usb transfers. the quality is really good too, i suggest buying the 128MB memory stick, that gives u a lot of pictures and movies each time. the only things i don't like is that the max. running time of a charged up camera is 60 minutes - which works fine for me most of the time, and i'd prefer a smaller camera - but then i'm a girl. the size is pretty reasonable.

Digital Cameras should be made by camera companies
by ikatsman ,Oct 14 '03
Pros: small(smallest), lightweight Cons: poor ergonomics, 128M_max memory, poor battery life, poor optics
Digital Cameras should be made by camera companies
I've been using Sony dsc-p5 for 1.5 years and can say I wish I bought camera from photo maker (nikon, canon etc)
Though the dsc-p5 was smallest and lightest on the market, it looks like 100 years of photo-equipment making experience was not for sony.
Example is placement of viewfinder in the middle of camera body that makes it inconvenient to use: humans have noses that interfere unless viewfinder is sticking out or is
on either side of camera body.
poor optics(line distortion), poor ergonomics (location of power button, viewfinder). Proprietary battery, bulky charger( 3 times size of camera).
Expansive spare is a must. Max memory size - 128m. Not compatible with newer memory stick Pro cards.

Knocked out by Sony DSC-P5...
by r_obert_c_dt3000 ,Aug 26 '02
Knocked out by Sony DSC-P5 features, size, shape. Overall photo quality and features compare favorably with larger, more expensive cameras. No-problem software makes for easy connection to PC via USB. Even though I own an Olympus digital camera, Sony brand loyalty played role in selecting the P5. It topped all others in my shopping comparison. Get it while you can. The P5's successor with near-identical specs is the DSC-P7, but it costs about $100 more.

I have had this camera...
by turbosteve_dt3000 ,Feb 05 '03
I have had this camera for a little over a year now, and purchased it while it was nearly $600. I haven't thought twice. It is excellent, especially for the size. Once you learn to use it, you can take pictures in any situation, including low light, and even complete dark. The AF focus is amazing and with a 128 stick, memory is no object even for highest quality pictures. It does take a some time to review pictures on the camera at the highest quality. Slide show and zooming into a captured picture is fun when attached to a large television for a group to see.

I have a couple sony...
by the_mc_dt3000 ,Feb 05 '02
I have a couple sony digital cameras and would not think about buying another brand. So far I like the p-5, it is small and can be carried in a pocket, but it still has the quality of the larger cameras.

I toss this little gem...
by pearl_dt3000 ,Nov 26 '02
I toss this little gem in my purse every where I go. I initially bought it for it's small size, and was blown away by the photo quality. The USB hookup is super easy, and the memory stick media allows quick printing with a number of photo printers. I especially like the fact that you don't need an IT degree to operate it.

This was my first camera...
by xanman_dt3000 ,Sep 01 '02
This was my first camera and I enjoy every pic.
It offers a great price for the mega Pixs and if you can find one before the P7 comes out you will have a great deal. It will go head to head with any camera in it's class.

I purchased this camera specifically...
by indy_irish_dt3000 ,Jan 08 '03
I purchased this camera specifically for taking pictures at concerts without a flash. Mostly I get blurry pics. I had one of the first clunky Sony Mavicas and I swear it takes better concert pics with better zoom than this thing. It is obviously taking too much time for this camera to focus even though the subjest is brightly lit. I'm greatly disappointed. And did I say the zoom sucks? THE ZOOM SUCKS! I have a friend with a Nikon that blows this one out of the water. If you are taking daylight photos or can use the flash it's a fine camera. It's the last Sony product I buy!
