Pros: Good image quality, Multiple media options, Great lens Cons: Some images dark in softer light, Could be a bit more user-friendly
Sony's first step into the world of digital SLRs is a good one, much to my surprise. Here are my initial thoughts on the Sony D-SLR Alpha 100. Brand Sony has long been a manufacturer of fantastic quality televisions. Sony's repertoire ...
Pros: Super SteadyShot, exellent ergnomics and handgrip, fine image quality and very high resolution Cons: Viewfinder not great for glasses wearers, high ISO a bit noisy
As other reviewers have noted, the Alpha 100 is Sony's first foray into the world of digital SLRs. However, this is not really a first-generation product, since it is actually the result of Sony's acquisition of Konica-Minolta's digital camera business. ...
Pros: Well designed, abundant features, compatible with old minolta lenses, beautiful images Cons: None so far. Will update if any surface.
In my closet, a nondescript camera bag sits in a dark corner. It's seen many of my life's great moments, but it hasn't seen the sun in years. Inside, a fully tricked out Minolta Maxxum 7000i slumbers next to enough glass to equip an army of paparazzi ...
Pros: good battery life; quick on burst mode Cons: expensive; slow to turn on (1.3 seconds), noise @hi ISO
Sony has some very good products; they just introduced the product recently. It is not an inexpensive camera, the body goes for about $750. For about an extra $100, you can obtain an 18-70mm lens. At 10.2 megapixels, it delivers a lot of punch for ...
Pros: Ease of use, quality of pictures at low ISO settings, uses Minolta lenses, price. Cons: Grainy at high ISO settings, external flash solutions not ideal.
I've had this camera for just over a year now. It has comfortably performed excellently and dependably all the time, as long as I haven't expected miracles! It has of course been superseded by the Sony Alpha A-200, which is good news if you can find ...
Pros: Ease of use and super shots even w/ a beginner Cons: Justifiably larger and more expensive than point and shoots
After having my daughter, I decided I wanted to upgrade my digital camera. I had a $250 point and shoot Toshiba that took decent pictures. I went to the store and came home with the sony alpha 100, an 18-70 lens and an external flash. As soon as I got ...
Pros: Compatible with Minolta lenses, easy computer connection. Cons: A bit complicated for a newbie to SLR photography
I was sick when I first hear that Konica Minolta was getting out of the camera business, but pleasantly surprised about their partnership with Sony. I've owned 2 Sony camcorders, and several VCR's and DVD players over the years. So, I had no concerns ...
Pros: Photo quality, build quality, works with Sony & Minolta accessories. Cons: Sony name adding cost to accessories.
This is Sony's, and my, first DSLR. I have been using point-and-shoots my whole life and found that I had outgrown them all; I needed something with increased resolution, but also had enough features to let me grow as a photographer. This camera did ...
Pros: SLR, uses Minolta lenses, and can take photos is low light. Cons: Only allowed to install software on one computer.
The Alpha combines the best of a film SLR and a digital camera. I like it better than my Minolta SLR. It has a comfortable grip and the buttons are well placed. I have printed some photos 13X19 inch, the largest my printer can, and they still look ...
Pros: reasonably priced, easy to use, lots of features Cons: kinda big and bulky, but that is expected for being a SLR
i bought this camera thinking that i was going to use this as a starter camera, but it is way more than just a starter. i did lots of comparisons before i bought this and almost bought the nikon d40x, but for less money, i got more features and a easier ...
Pros: Sturdy, easy to use, lens compatibility can save lots of $ Cons: Needs a little faster fps rate for fast sports
I've had several digital cameras, with the last being a Konica/Minolta Dimage Z3. I wanted to upgrade to a digital SLR and since I already had a rather long zoom lens for my Minolta HTSi, imagine my glee when Sony introduced the Alpha, which was ...
Pros: Nice design and layout your fingers just sit straight onto the controls, fast operation. Cons: Could have a little orange dot, on the lens cap to line it up.
Easy to use I mean really easy, everything in the right place, I went from 3 prosumer cameras to this camera after a lot of research and its the best move I have ever made.
Fast and easy with great photos and tons of lens to choose from. Keep up the good work Sony
Pros: Price, picture quality, Minolta lineage, battery life Cons: the built in flash - like all built in flashes
I cannot say enough about this camera. I purchased the A100 body and a Tamron 28-300 lens and have never looked back. Great pictures even in slower shutter speeds (1/10th of a second - handheld) with the Sony Steady Shot. The Steady Shot being built into the body saves $$$ when buying lenses as compared to N---- and C---- whose steady shot is built into the individual lenses.
The battery life is incredible at over 700 shots per charge. Out of habit, I always have a charged back up battery and have NEVER had to use it.
This camera is a direct descendant of the Minolta Digital SLR's and the majority of accessories/lenses/flashes work with the A100.
The only weaknesses I have found are: 1: the built in flash - like all built in flashes, is extremely weak but you can get non-Sony flashes with TTL capabilities reasonably. 2: with the original firmware the autofocus had some hesitation, but with the newer firmware it keeps up with the majority of the dslrs. As the newer issued cameras have the newer firmwarer, this should no longer be an issue.
Pros: It's just one hell of a Camera , Good Photo's Good battery life ,Nice feel Cons: None the I have found as of yet.
A Good Camera ,
I love my @100 I just wish I bought it with the @100H Kit with the 18-200MM lens
I got my @100 with the 18-70MM lens and bought the 18-200MM later at a
cost of just under $600.00 .
I'm very happy with all .
Sony Alpha digital Camera Warning by stewartmcrae ,Feb 16 '07
Pros: Sony Alpha is absorbing all Minota lens mount technology. GREAT in-camera body "anti-shake" technology. Cons: only 10mpix bigger capture would help sometimes. ALL digital cameras need A LOT OF LIGHT
I'm a knowledgeable buyer of this great camera. It's perfect for anyone that has lots of Minota gear/lenses. The price is now reasonable in the $600-$700 range. Full functions without being a pain to "learn".
When shopping for a Sony Alpha Digital camera [minolta replacement] be warned about YELLOW BEE PHOTO.com They are a bait/switch outfit. Online prices are super low, by about $50. After ordering, they require a phone call to confirm CC#. The sales rep only wants to talk you into buying a "package" or insurance or extra batteries and warranties. The NY-catalog retailers like the dis-honest guys @ YELLOWBEEPHOTO.com really make buying a pain. When I refused to be "sold" or upgraded, after 15 minutes of argueing on the phone... the rep suddenly says the Sony Alpha is -out-of-stock. When I said cancel, he was quick to send an e-mail confirming MY decision to cancel, so the fraudulent out-of-stock ruse, wasn't his fault. I'm mailing a stamped letter to the NY state authorities. Avoid YellowBeePhoto.com
