Pros: Ease of use, incredible picture quality, miniDV and DVCAM size tapes accepted without adapter. Cons: Inconvenient for air travel, high cost may shy away would-be purchasers.
Just over a year ago I purchased the DSR-250 to start a videography business, and it has proven to be the best investment I have made in my life.
I never owned a video camera in my life, but I was able to operate the DSR-250 right out of the...

Pros: Stability, Video Quality, XLR Audio Connectors, 3 Hr record time Cons: Zoom Speed too fast, Iris/Shutter Control
The quality of this camera makes it a great value. This camera can be used for professional videography including event, corporate, news, even low budget broadcast videography. I have used most of the Canon, Sony, and Panasonic miniDV cameras, but I ...

Pros: light and easy to use Cons: if people picky on color, sound and video quality, then dsr 250 will takes over.
This camera looks professional and works as professional, lots of function to control auto and manually, easy to find long hours battery, two sizes of tape can be used. Under the good condition of light it gives you superb video quality with dvcam mode, GREAT!

Great camera. always use sony tape
by shieldprod ,Jun 12 '05
Pros: cheap, light, dv-dvcam, long batt. life. Cons: Lightwieght loading mech. too large for some field work.
I've never had a head clog. I use only sony tape tho.:)
I didn't like idea of a fixed lens, but I've never needed any other lens. This camera works best on a gitzo head/sticks uses large or mini cassettes. Have run 270 minutes without reloading. Lighter and less $$ then competition. DV and DVCAM recording are great. Batteries last a long time too. 200

Unreliable Camera
by mikey_t ,Nov 20 '04
Pros: Fairly easy to operate Cons: Unreliable, Bulky
I use this camera at work. I just took it out on a shoot and I get back. When I go to look at my footage, it's all bad except for a few minutes. Everything else is choppy and half of it only has audio and a few cut ins.
in my mind a good camera should always record properly.
The camera is only 3 months old and has gone in for repairs twice!
I am not happy with this camera!

Awesome picture, great features, watch out for head clog
by mensoy ,Nov 25 '04
Pros: Picture quality, form factor, feature, price and quality/feature ratio Cons: Two head clog incidents lost all my trust for this camera
I owned this camera for over 2 years and shot many wedding with it. It produces awesome video with stunning results. Pro features such as 3 XLR inputs, phantom power, pro view finders are just some great features worth mentioning that are usually not found in this price range.
The only problem: Two months ago, I had two head clog incidents after about 50 hours of tape have been shot. The worse part is that there is no warning what so ever when that happened. You'll get thick gray bars when you play back the tape. Because of this, I cannot trust the camera anymore until Sony resolves this problem.

I only had a couple...
by h.lacanard_dt3000 ,Mar 06 '02
I only had a couple of days to play with it, courtesy of Sony in Vancouver.
Shot at high noon at a winter festival, perfect pix, great sound from provided mic.
Shot a couple of hockey games, the focus (electronic) , which others had warned me about, was not an issue.
Shot at high gain by firelight, again, outstanding pictures.
Easy to handle, but a bit lightweight for ENG, maybe a bit too much plastic for use where it's -40 half the time. Like here in Winnipeg.

I have this camera for over year and half, the quality is great but the sound is terrible. when I leave it on automatic and recording the music band playing, the sound was distort eventhough I set it at -20DB(bottom line at high level sound, the recording is terrible)and at normal conversation, the sound was not come in stereo. There is no audio input jack for mini or RCA plug.
