A great entry level HD camcorder

by coldintoronto , Jun 19 '06
Pros: HD@1440x1080i works; cheapest HD camcorder you can find;
Cons: no software; no cables; too barebones; no analog video-inputs.
Due to lack of reliable reviews, I bought this camcorder based on specs alone. As such, I was half expecting to be disappointed. Overall, it has performed surprisingly well, and I have not been disappointed. TECHNICAL SPECS AV Inputs ...

Sony HC3 hi-def camcorder - the wave of the future at lower prices!

by jemaer_rf , Apr 19 '06
Pros: Hi-def video, portability, and inexpensive, once you consider what you're getting. HDMI output!
Cons: Low capacity Memory Stick Duo card provided, almost useless viewfinder, proprietary hot shoe!
I have a camcorder because I have small kids. And I use my camcorder to record the special events in my kids' lives. I like electronics so if I'm going to do any recording, I want to record in the best format/resolution possible. So I've gone from ...

Amazing unit for preserving memories

by markneustadt , Nov 01 '06
Pros: Amazing picture quality, solid construction
Cons: Relies on tapes instead of a hard drive
My old 8MM camcorder finally bit the bullet. I decided to pick up a new camcorder. I got a JVC Everio and was really happy with it. My mother in law decided that she wanted it and bought it from me so I was in the market again. This time, I decided ...

Fantastic Upgrade!

by lawrenceingram , Dec 25 '06
Pros: Great image quality, good photographs, no worries of filling a hard drive, solid build.
Cons: Delay after switching on before filming will start.
I have been shooting and editing movies for some time with a Sony mini-dv camcorder. I use a Mac with iMovie for editing and I can say that the Sony HDR-HC3 is compatible and works just by plugging in the firewire. Downloading video is an absolute ...

Seemed like a great product until after 5 minutes

by dhwebb01 , Sep 29 '06
Pros: Picture quality
Cons: Faulty auto lens cover
I bought this camera because it is the best HD camera on the market per the www.camcorderinfo.com ratings. I opened the package, charged the battery, and recorded five minutes with my 21 week old little girl....then THE problem started. The auto lens ...

good solid choice
by kharin ,Apr 16 '07
Pros: Hd if you have to have it
Cons: this chip underwhelms but its better then regular camcorderers without
why? I saw it and its ok the colors need upgrading the video is great and better then regular mini dv The hd is ok... but 500 dollars more then regular? I don't think so. They are already onto the hc7 which has much better picture. To think people love this so much? in sd mode forget it...I just don't think its so great. period update got another like it better but still its worth around 5 hundred to me. If they added more color and less noise much more . Sony needs to put a focus ring and exposure compensation button on their camcorders, Still how can you go wrong for under 500 dollars ? You can't

Black screen of death after 1 year
by chugchank ,Dec 25 '07
Pros: Good picture and stills
Cons: Poor quality construction
I got the "black screen of death" a month or two after the warranty expired. This is a problem in which newly filmed videos and pictures are 100% black but the camera can still play back previously filmed videos. Sony refused to extend the warranty. I don't see how they can justify charging a premium with these reliability problems.

Wonderful Product
by orcaple ,Aug 04 '06
Pros: Glass, picture quality, battery life, ease of use.
Cons: Lack of an audio input jack; must purchase expensive attachment fitting into their proprietary shoe.
I bought this cam with a leap of faith because there were no reviews. Could have bought 2 or 3 ordinary cams for the price of one of these.
After having used it for 3 months now, I must say that this is one of the most amazing pieces of electronics I have ever seen. I love this cam.
I have taken more 4.0 megapixel pictures than I have videos! The glass used in this camera is exceptional.
