People who love radio will eventually wind up buying a shortwave receiver, if only to find out what else is out there on the radio waves. The first-time buyer will also, very likely, enter these shortwave waters cautiously, not wanting to spend too ...
Pros: Great reception and features. Superbly engineered. Synchronous Detection Cons: Display readability. Loudspeaker quality
Background:
I purchased this radio two weeks ago. I used to be a Shortwave listener during the 80s-90s but I discontinued the hobby after my student years. Recently, I became interested again and thought I should buy a good radio. During the 80s I...
Pros: Sync lock is awesome, size, memory scan, SSB is useful Cons: Less than great audio, no tuning knob
I'm fairly new to SWL (shortwave listening) but I have to give this Sony very high marks. Radio Netherlands reviewers agree (see http://www.rnw.nl/realradio/icf-sw7600gr.html for their review) and compared to other portable shortwave radios in this...
Pros: Excellent reception; 100+ station memories; extremely easy to use; flexible audio out Cons: not much: could have RDS display
I gave this as a gift to my father, who doesn't have the time to figure out SW frequencies and would like to listen to specific programs without having to search himself or enter the frequency. I programmed the stations for him, and he finds it very easy...
Pros: Selectivity, Sync Lock, SSB/CW Tuning, Sturdy Construction Cons: Only has 100 memories
I really like this radio, I use it on a daily basis to receive shortwave broadcasts using only the provided antenna. I have had no problems operating the controls and find that one becomes familiar with them easily. One feature which I believe ...
This Sony was nice while it lasted. I had its predecessor for 20 years and was very disappointed when this newer version died after only two years. Sony customer service was not very helpful. They do not repair this radio and could only offer to replace it with a refurbished radio for nearly the price of a new radio. These are not cheap radios so I expected more quality and durability.
Pros: features for price, reception, build quality, ease of use Cons: lack of ac adapter
I was looking for a high quality portable radio to use locally and something with SW for when I travel to remote places abroad (though I'm very new to SW). All sources pointed to this radio and I am not disappointed. I got it from Hypeaudio and despite their mixed reviews, I received it 48 hours after ordering it and didn't pay shipping. I've read that universal-radio.com has an appropriate ac adapter.
Pros: Nicely made; high tech Cons: Reception not as good as others
After hooking up this radio to my 100 ft antennae (with an alligator clip as it has no external antenna jack), I found its reception to be, at best, average, if not disappointing. I soon replaced it with a Tecsun BCL-2000 (also the Grundig S350) radio, for about one third less in price, and it performs infinitely better than the Sony, with many more frills included. Consider this radio before the Sony.
BEST SHORTWAVE RADIO ON THE MARKET TODAY by radiolove ,May 04 '09
Pros: -HIGH QUALITY MADE IN JAPAN! -SUPER SENSITIVE -POWERFUL HIGH TECH SYNC DETECTOR -GREAT ON BATTERIES, PERFECT TRAVEL RADIO Cons: Could have had a bit better speaker but listen mostly on headphones so doesn't matter.
Excellent portable shortwave radio still made in high quality Japan unlike all that other made in china junk on the market today. Blows them all away in performance and extremely high build quality. Super powerful high tech sync detection makes all the difference. Don't be fooled by all those others hyping those made in China radios, this SONY beats them all and will last a lot longer. Best radio I've ever used and even decided to buy several so to have a couple of spares before they stop making them. A real Jem and another great sony radio that will go down in history. I take it on all my travels.
I upgraded to Sony ICF SW7600Gr during Mar ch 08 from my Siemens RK 661 receiver. Bought if from amazon for around $150. Accessories included Sony compact antenna andmanual & frequency guide book. no Ac adaptor.
More sensitive comapared to my old receiver, had SSB tuning.. Sync detection.. I feel the radio would have been a lot better with a conventional jog tuning wheel on the side...And the LCD indicator looks very uprofessional.. Sony could have designed in such a way that it showed frequency & time in the same panel... A signal meter would also been great.
Overall its good value for money
Memory keying process could have been made simpler.
SW7600GR radio is an embarrassment to the SONY name by jimi12 ,Jan 07 '07
Pros: Good on AM and FM - good quality radio like all SONY products. Cons: Does not work well on SW.
I am a SONY fan and an armature radio operator. The ICF-SW7600GR radio is an embarrassment to the SONY name. I received this unit through my SONY points. My $39 no name unit works better on the short wave bands. An antenna does not help.
