Pros: Good picture, fine sound, lots of inputs... Cons: But only one HDMI input, some red push
One of the ongoing battles among tech nerds is the benefits of LCD versus Plasma HDTVs. Fans of plasma say they are a better picture while LCD aficionados says that LCDs last longer. But as technology improves, the lines will become blurred. Is this the ...
Pros: Amazing Picture, Decent Sound, Easy To Setup, Fun to Use Cons: 5 or 6 "Video" Channels, CC?!
Several months ago, right before the HD-DVD format war between HD and Blu-Ray was heating up, the wise folks over at the website The Digital Bits were beleaguered with questions over which format was superior and who would win and all that. The Bits ...
Pros: Plasma Quality Picture, HDTV Ready, Tons of Ports, Light-Weight, Very Dependable Cons: Price
Introduction The Sony 40" BRAVIA™ XBR® LCD Flat Panel HDTV is an excellent new alternative to today’s 42 " plasma televisions. The 40" BRAVIA™ XBR® LCD Flat Panel HDTV has the same brightness, contrast, thinness, weight, and screen resolution of a ...
Pros: Extremely sharp resolution during hi-definition TV programing. The clarity and color can be jaw-dropping. Cons: Slow reaction to channel and input changes. No PIP. No Firewire connection.
From Agoraquest: Bought the Sony Bravia in January 2006 and have been very happy with my choice. People who have other brands of HD TV's and have seen this model at my home are also impressed by its picture and the set itself when it is turned off. It ...
Pros: Played fine for 6 weeks-good picture and sound Cons: Terrible service and customer relations
Six weeks after I bought it-it went black. Sony had repair man come out and replace module-still no picture-2 weeks later still waiting for a part. It was a fine picture for 6 weeks but Sony doesn't support the customer with adequate parts supply or offer me any satisfactory answer. They just don't care that I spent almost $4,000 for the tv and cart and have a non functioning set.
Pros: Great picture, superb contrast equal to plasma, cable card for hd/digital programs Cons: nothing significant
I bought the new 40" Bravia as we were looking for a medium-large set for the master bedroom. Was focused on LCD due to high levels of light in the bedroom. Love the set. Picture is great, and the contrast is as good as my 50" Pioneer elite plasma set. LCD tv has never been like this. I also use an upconversion DVD player with the HDMI interface, which makes this a great set for watching movies. This is a real winner for Sony, especially given the mid/low $3000 price point. This set is cable card ready so you can get digital and hd programming without a set top box. There are 7 video input enabling you to connect just about anything
Nice, but could be improved by dcb6538 ,Oct 29 '05
Pros: Great picture, easy to set up. Cons: Closed captioning a pain to turn on, automatically changes letterbox movies to wide-screen
Overall, this is a good television; however, there are a couple of improvements that I believe should be made. For example, I have to go though three different menus to turn on closed captioning (my Mitsubishi is one). Also, when I watch a letterbox movie the TV automatically stretches it into wide-screen mode making it distorted and there is no way to change it. Those are my only complaints. The TV has a great picture and the sound, while not great, is pretty good. It comes with a stand, so no optional equipment was necessary for me.
Outstanding quality LCD HDTV by bahaba ,Feb 23 '06
Pros: Excellent HD picture, good color saturation, nice blacks with HD. Cons: Non-HD display is only so-so.
I bought this 40in Bravia in November 2005 after reviewing many alternatives and comparing LCD vs plasma. Overall, I'm very happy with the unit. HD, when it is available, is outstandingly crisp. Regular cable signal is good - not excellent - especially when in wide zoom mode. But the HD picture is excellent, with a quick pixel refresh rate. I picked the LCD due to lower power consumption and less weight when compared with plasma. This Sony doesn't disappoint. Can't say much about the onboard speakers since I run audio through a virtual home theatre system.
Expected to be top of a line by linelis ,Apr 11 '06
Pros: Really great HD picture Cons: No PIP feature, no direct CC button on remote
I returned a LG 42"LCD in exchange to SONY Bravia and was a little bit disappointed. I got it for $3000 from Best Buy ,but the LG with DVR was better than SONY,which I bought after some research on line ,when found out that this model was number one LCD at several websites.
I can't believe - this TV has no PIP !!! Even my 10 years old SONY 32"Sony had this feature ,I also missed separate CC button on remote . Some digital cable channels has no sound.
The Sony BRAVIA KDLV40XBR1 40 in. HDTV LCD TV has been nothing but problems. by tgaylor ,Oct 17 '09
Pros: NONE. Cons: This TV had major problems soon after I bought it; stay away from it.
I recently bought a KDL-40V5100 LCD TV. It came with a Sony Blueray player. The Blueray player worked the first time, but never again after that. After hours of troubleshooting; the TV was found to be the problem.
The HDMI ports do not function properly. I'm now faced with having the 2 month old $1000 TV tied up for weeks while it’s repaired. Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT by this KDL-40V5100 Sony product, or ANY Sony product for that matter. I will NEVER by anything made by Sony ever again.
This is my second LCD TV. The other is a competitor product that I purchased for a bedroom. There really is no comparison. The picture is sharp and crisp, setup is easy and the picture is better than many of my neighbors TV's. We watch football over at my house now. Love the TV and don't regret the purchase at all.
