Pros: Comfortable, Quality Sound Cons: Doesn't cancel out surrounding (aircraft) noise
I travel via airplane a couple of times a month and wanted my trips home to be quality downtime by watching a DVD. I assumed that since these fit comfortable into my ear canal (and I spent $50) that it would block out some of the cabin noise. Wrong....

Pros: Lightweight ,small, the bass is incredible!! Cons: Like everyone else says, the ear wax buildup really sux but it wont kill ya.
Well I just received my MDR-EX70LP earphones in the mail today and put them into my Sony MZ-N1 minidisc player and all I can say is WOW. The bass really hits you like nothing else before. For the price, (about$45) you really won't regret getting these. I...

a bit weird at first - loud breath
##### NEW REVIEW #####
I opted for sonys as etymotic [er6 $130 and er4's $260 ] were way too expensive for me....
After few months, I figured out my laptop has bad sound card... as I spend most of the time on the road, I decided to...

Pros: Good bass, fit inside the ear canal. Cons: EXPENSIVE!
After looking into many different ear buds I have to say that the ONLY thing I don't like about this pair is the price! They are comfortable, they seal perfectly inside the ear canal for a very personal sound. They have good bass, even for being so...

Pros: Exclusive auditory space for an ecstatic personal experience! Sleek. Cons: So clear it reveals the flaws in non-audiophile recordings
I was attracted by the unique design, which I've discovered to work wonders. If you don't want environmental noise from interfering with your music experience, especially when you are on the road, and yet do not want to blast yourself to deaf, you can...

Pros: Great sound, reasonable price Cons: My ears hurt
I bought these headphones and the Bang & Olufsen A8s so that I could compare them side by side. To my surprise, these puppies sounded significantly better than the $160 A8s.
The sound is deep, the bass very absorbing. The sound is not...

Pros: Price, size, looks Cons: Could have more defined bass, but nothing some tweaking can fix
I started looking for a pair of cheap canalphones when I trashed my first pair of Etymotic ER-4P's. That was an expense I didn't want to go through again. So I found Koss's Plug and The Sony's. I ruled out the Plug because of its obviously uncomfortable...

It takes getting use too
by camera2 ,Feb 19 '05
Pros: Keeps out the world.Custom fit. Cons: Sound average to good; not great.Takes geeting use to.
After reading the reviews I bought these headphones. First lets --stick your fingers in your ears and talk. Talk. Eat. This is what they feel like. These phones plug your ears and you can hear yourself eat during the quiet moments between songs. Yes on volume you can hear yourself breath --sort of like being underwater.
On the subway its a bit wierd to be so isolated from the noise train and chatter of people around you. Of course at Starbucks people will insist on talking to you so you have to watch their mouths --cause with these on; you'll miss their talking to you.
Sound quality --I found them average leaning to good. Not poor and the great. On a bike or when I need some awareness of the world --I keep the buds handy.
Note these are deep in your ear. They get waxy. Your not sharing these with anyone once you've been wearing them.

Take 'em anywhere
by erang ,Jan 05 '04
Pros: Good sound quality, great isolation, long cord Cons: Long cord, plastic case isn't even decent enough to be called a joke
Can't remember what I payed for these, but I'm pleased with them.
The sound quality is good, and the cord is long enough, so I can stash my CDP deep in my backpack. Then again, the cord is SO long, it can really be a mess, especially when the joke-case decides to crack open. Personally, if Sony lists the case as one of the features, I expect to get something that'll last more than 4 days- the case is, and excuse me for being blunt, $hit.
Other than that- good headphones.

Good sound...Bad design
by mitchi168 ,Jun 29 '04
Pros: Good sound, comfortable, stays in the ear if you don't snag the cord. Cons: Cord too long and made of "sure snag" plastic.
Cord material seems flimsy.
These earbuds sound nice and fit in the ear well, but these is a design flaw. The Soft, Silicon Earbud pieces are nice, but they don't stick the mini-speakers. They pop off easily you end up losing the a Soft, Silicon Earbud. The cord is also made of the worst possible material. I call it "sure snag" plastic. Only if they made tires out of this material. The cord gets caught on everything and the buds just end up popping out of my ear. The extra long cords sure doesn't help and the case is useless.

These earbuds are awesome!
by txtravelpro ,Jul 01 '06
Pros: Size, weight and sound quality Cons: NOTHING!
I travel extensively and my wonderful husband bought me a set of Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones. Unfortunately I HATED them... and I was too chicken to tell him. 300.00 down the drain, in my opinion!
Anyway... I hated that the Bose headphones were hot and made my ears itch and hurt. They also messed up my hair. They were too bulky. They require batteries.
I went on a hunt to find something that was basically the polar opposite of Bose.
I also needed silicone buds. None of the foam. I cannot use the buds with foam.
I found the Sony headphones at BestBuy.
I purchased the MDR-EX70SP model because I could take them back if I hated them.
They are absolutely weightless. The silicone buds fit perfectly without pressure, rubbing or irritation of any kind.
Here's the kicker: They cancel noise JUST AS EFFECTIVELY as the Bose headphones.
I just fell in love with these things! In fact, I ran out and got THREE more sets.
The short cord is perfect for our Shuffles, the extended cord works for everything else!

Not for me
by joroben ,Mar 22 '04
Pros: Low price Cons: Couldn't get an ear seal no matter which ear piece was used.
These may work for some people but not for me. I guess I could never get a good ear seal no matter what size ear earpiece I tried.
As a result, the sound was very poor.
I returned these and purchased the Shure E2's. I'm very happy with the E2's. The funny thing is that all of the Shure earpieces sealed my ears well. It was only a matter of finding a comfortable fit.

Bass dominated sound lacks quality
by lewingson ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: Good bass, block out the surroundings well. Cons: No sound balance and uncomfortable earpieces.
I was personally very dissapointed with these headphones. There is little balance in the sound, and the base line dominates the entire sound range. Some solos that are played midrange, such as Led Zepplin solos, can simply not be heard without a strained attempt to listen hard. They may be good for some listeners but I feel an XBS switch the music player itself suffices. You cannot listen to classical music or Jazz with these headphones!
Also, the earbuds begin to irritate after a while, espieicially whilst running or cycling.
