Pros: Lots of Storage per disc, small, light, easy to use Cons: Clunky Software, Could have a larger volume range
Over the last few years I have built up a large MP3 collection and for the last several months I have been seriously looking at different MP3 players so that I could enjoy these MP3s while traveling in a walkman type device. The flash memory ...
Pros: Remote control, save money if you buy now, great product, many different settings Cons: Energy conserving function is annoying
I recently moved into a new apartment and the building is quite old. Hence, the lack of a central air conditioning system. The building is right outside of Philadelphia and those of you who know the area know just how hot and humid the summers can be....
Pros: Great sound quality from MP3, good battery life and high-speed transfers with USB NetMD. Cons: Stupid menu, worthless headphones.
NetMD, where have you been all my life? I am a minidisc aficionado. I own two minidisc decks, and this is the fourth portable recorder I've owned. Since I've already got a full panoply of minidisc options for home listening, live recording and portab ...
Pros: High capacity, cheap media, great battery life, relatively inexpensive, fast CD transfers Cons: Quirky software, no mic input, output not very loud, OpenMG makes mp3 use difficult
After some research, I bought the MZ-N505 for use with my motorcycle audio system. I've tried CD based systems in the past, including Rio Volt, but always had lots of trouble with skipping. I finally resorted to an Intel Audio Player 3000, which worked...
Pros: Great sound, USB interface, impressive battery life Cons: MP3 Software is terrible, no microphone inputs
The NetMD series of MiniDisc players from Sony is a godsend for music lovers that want to take their music on the go. Finally, there is a platform that allows me to use my computer to manage music on the affordable (about $2 per MD) MiniDisc media.
...
Pros: 60 hour battery life (hicapacity AA), doesn't skip, portabilty, excellent sound Cons: no backlight, cheesy headphones, poor software
The MZ-N505 is one of the best alternatives in portable audio. Sony's advances in MiniDisc technology (allowing transfers of mp3s to MD) make for excellent storage capacities, a long battery life, and great sound quality.
Pros: Inexpensive, great battery life, cheap media, light, good sound quality, quality hardware. Cons: OpenMG software stinks, can't copy from MD back to the PC, no remote included.
I like to ride long distances on my motorcycle, and I've tried a lot of different portable audio solutions. CD players were too bulky to comfortably store in a jacket or pants pocket, and the Rio has only 128MB of flash.
Pros: Light, Small, Quick, Good Quailty Audio, Fast (LP2) transfer of audio. Cons: SOFTWARE :( , user interface possible dislike.
I was getting a little annoyed by the fact that my CD player was becoming more of an annoyance, e.g. takes a lot of space in side pocket. Other than that it was fine (shock proof), however, it was time i placed it to the side.
My uncle loved his...
Pros: Large storage capabilities for a low price. Cons: Creating minidiscs can be time consuming because the songs need to be formatted first.
Storage
The best thing about the MD player is that you can store up to 5 hours of music (depending on the sound quality that you choose) on one minidisc, not to mention the fact that a 5 pack of minidiscs will cost you $10 max. I can...
Sony has created an awesome technology in the Minidisc Walkman. Ive used everything in the audio world ranging from old-fashioned Tapes and CDs to MP3 Players and even my PocketPC. The Minidisc player is easily the coolest gadget...
Pros: affordable, doesn´t skip, NetMD capabilities, digital in, excellent sound, small and portable Cons: stone age remote, small LCD screen, challenging software with stupid copyright features
I bought this unit after my old r700 finally kicked the bucket (a used/new ebay deal I somewhat regret)... and I´ve never been happier.
This unit is, in my oppinion, the perfect mid-point between regular MD player/recorders and MP3 players,...
Pros: Small, Battery use, software, cool-looking, its a Sony. Cons: Discs can get messy, low quality sound the more you fill the disc.
After a long time, I got tired of carrying those cumbersome CD holders. I also must admit to being clumsy and scratching a healthy amount of my music. I had to find a solution. I went to Sony to look around for anything, open wallet for anything ...
Pros: size, battery life, capacity, affordible. Cons: no belt clip or carry case. Earbud headphones
I was going to buy a MP3 player, but a salesperson showed me the Sony MiniDisc. I went home and did a little research. I bought it the same day. I am very glad I bought this over a mp3 player. I have been using it for three days, and the battery is...
Pros: d quality is excellent, Numerous options and selections, Affordable, Cosmetically appealing Cons: Bulkier than newer Sony MD players, Computer software is hard to use at times
If you are considering buying a new portable listening device – specifically a MiniDisc player – start looking at the Sony NetMD MZ-N505. It is an excellent buy for consumers because it is affordable and it follows Sony’s reputable quality...
Pros: High Capacity. Excellent sound. Extra long Battery life. Cons: Display is small. My vision is not good this is kind of a problem.
I can't even begin to describe my joy! Man do I love this player. I was quite skeptical after the RIO 600 disaster to move on to any other portable. But as many times in the past. It Sony to the rescue. I decided to spend the $149.00 and get the complete...
Pros: Price of unit and media, features, operating cost amount of music contained on 1 disc Cons: Weird software, cannot voice record use with pc will sometimes kill disc
After only being able to listen to 20 songs on a cd, I became interested in mp3s and the first thing I bought was a cd/mp3 player. Unfortunately the unit I bought was a piece and would skip if I moved around while listening to it. Since I do alot of ...
Pros: Unit Price, cheap & available media Cons: OpenMG Jukebox media, small display, no backlight, format conversions, NO wav, mp3, wma play support
I bought this unit just a month after purchasing an SD MP3 player. Neither were perfect, but this unit comes close. Pay more and you get more goodies in this product line. Remote would be nice, but I can live without it for the price. The media is...
Pros: Light, Lots Of Space, Good Memory Life Cons: Buttons Hard To Use
I bought this item on impluse after losing my forever failing Rio MP3 player. I picked it out that morning and only 6 hours later i'd been to the shop, charged it and linkin park was blaring through the headphones.
The set up was quite easy, and all...
Pros: very light and great anti skip protection Cons: buttons are hard to get at if you aren't looking at them directly, no LCD
I bought this new off of eBay last week and I was very surprised with the quality of the product. I don't usually buy Sony because it's a lot of overpriced junk, but I have to say that this was a very good investment.
Pros: Great battery life Cons: Button issues, software bad
This player and its software has plenty of faults. I originally got it since I needed a music player that could both fit plenty of songs and have a very long battery life. A long battery life is something it does have. It runs for probably 50 hours ...
Pros: very light, compack in size, great sound, eazy to use Cons: no inline remote, LCD does not light up,
Very light weight and small in size. Great for work outs and runs. Runs for ever off of one AA battery. Puts out great sound. Software is a little tricky to use at first. I wish this product had a LCD that lit up when you used it or used its buttons....
Pros: Cheap discs, amount on each disc, price, features.... Cons: The lack of ability to tranfer recorded tracks back to PC via USB
This is a great little device. My sole reasons for purhcasing was the compatability with MP3, WMA and WAV, and the ability to record from an outside source. I purchased the gold version. It is very nice and the amount of features it hold is great too. A...
Pros: good hardware and concept Cons: draconian big brother digital rights management softeware make the whole line of MD players useless
I keep finding unbelievable restiction in the SW. The latest: The highly trumped PC independant RIPing is useless, the first time I tried to use it, I needed access to a PC in order to check the songs back in to the PC before I could overwrite them with...
Pros: small, lightweight, cheap media, no-skip, long-playing, USB interface Cons: mp3 software is funky
I like this one. Its very small, light, and fits into just about any pocket very nicely, making it ultra-portable. The quality of sound is superb, so long you upgrade to some better ear/headphones. I can normally get about 5 hours of music onto one mini...
Pros: Portability, durability, battery life, style, ease of use with unit. Cons: Small buttons, software isn't easy but works, no belt clip.
Having purchased my unit for under 90 bucks, I am QUITE pleased with the performance. I didn't expect too much, and have been blown away by the value. It is a wonderful portable audio device. I love the look and function of the unit. The software...
Pros: style, size, battery life, uses inexpensive minidiscs, fast transfers, optical input. Cons: no backlight, no mic. input, would prefer a volume wheel over buttons, uncomfortable headphones.
I have tried almost all of the available portable music players, including CD, mp3CD, mp3, and hard disk based players. Overall this is an excellent player. My biggest concern was about the anti-shock protection. Being that the minidisc is an ...
Pros: 32 time faster than real time recording. Small and sexy. Cons: Stock headphones are garbage. No convenient place to put it other than pocket.
Before purchasing the M-505 i owned an earlier model sony MD player/recorder. With the old one recording was in real time and one md could only fit 74 min. of music.
Well, this is the future and the Sony M-505 player/recorder manages to fit 2 hrs...
Pros: Great sound, affordable, comes with free 80 minute minidisc. Cons: Even though the nd is affordable the headphones included are pretty corny.
Lets start off by saying the mz-n505 is awesome let me tell you why. Some of the reasons why this md player is good are that the capacity of songs on each minidisc is the same as you could find on a cd. Its better to download then burn songs onto the...
Pros: this thing is awesome! Cons: a little complicated at first
i just bought an mz-n505 mini disc player, and it's everything i thought it would be and more. the possibilities are endless! the player came with all of the software needed to download mp3s and store them on your disc, and a program that allows you to...
Pros: Cheap, Convenient (very small), Long battery life, fast burning, generally good sound. Cons: Unclear/long instructions, sound not loud, not enough options, complicated PC applications.
Despite a few negative points, this Sony Mini-Disc player has too many good sides to consider it a bad buy. The first thing that made me buy it is the long battery life; it plays for over 50 hours on a single AA battery. Also, the player is very small...
Pros: Crisp, clear sound. Light, easy to work, fast downloading Cons: not as durable as some, slightly confusing controlls
As usual, Sony has succeeded in creating top of the line audio equipment. This product is easy to use and practical. The download speed is remarkable and the sound is crisp and clear. This product has been the best minidisc that I have ever listened...
I live in a 32 year old mobile home with serious insulation deficiencies. This air conditioner gets and keeps it cool in the hot summers of S.C. It is very quiet and has an energy saver feature that allows you to save on your power bill. It has a remote...
I love my Sony Mini Disk Player by promisedjoy ,Nov 29 '06
Pros: Music does not need to be erased to make way for new music Cons: I really cannot think of any negatives
I bought my Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-N505 Personal Mini Disk Player about 5 years ago and have nothing but high regard for this unit. I love the fact that it is tiny enough to fit into a pocket or purse & yet with Sony speakers I can bring out the best of sounds.
I used this unit originally when I led the music portion of my church's worship service by recording mini disks each Sunday with the desired music when we had no pianist. I simply purchased an adapter unit to connect to the sound system of the church.
I also have used this with background music when I have done solos. Currently, I use it for Christmas music that I have on 7 mini disks. Unlike MP3 players that have to be erased before you can load anything more all you need are new disks to add to your music collection and you lose nothing.
Sony Products and their Quality Decline by cmcm ,Dec 02 '04
Pros: The size is nice Cons: Overall SONY quality has taken a nose dive across the board
I'm currently deployed to the Middle East and I've gone through TWO SOny MD players and 1 set of headphones. Listening to music is the only thing that helps pass the months away from home. Nothing frustrates me more than having that taken away from me. Both Minidisc players failed me. Dust is not an issue where I work so I can't imagine why they would fail. One unit was brand new, right out of the box. Both units failed ot read any disc. Since all of my music was recorded on MD format, I have no alternative but to order more of these lemons. It's either that or no music to pass the time. Ordering a replacement MD player takes one month to get to me. I will never purchase a SONY product again and will disuade anyone I can to follow suit.
This Dealie Gizmo Rules! by phatsomcgee ,Dec 11 '03
Pros: Everything Cons: Software is crappy for MP3's, but quite good for CD to Mini Disc transfers
I love this machine. Greatest money I ever spent. Being able to have 5 hours of tunes in the palm of my hand and having another 25 hours in my pocket rules.
Pros: Small, light weight, portable. Cons: No radio. I'd be happier if it were a different color.
I heard the advertisement on the radio that said it could hold up to eight hours of music on one disk. I went out and purchased it and was thrilled to finally have something that works for my needs. The battery lasts for 56 hours on playback and that means you don't have to change batteries every five minutes. The disks are re-writable up to a million times and they really hold a lot of files. I tried the apple mp3 player and hated it because the battery life couldn't compare. So I returned it and kept my mini disk player and couldn't be happier. It's made really well too. I've dropped it a few times and it still works. It's easy to use the music management software that comes with the device and it transfers music pretty quickly too.
Pros: great bass, sound, and overall greatness Cons: menus could be a little easier to navigate
This MD product has great looks, sound, battery life, and more. I bought it at Best Buy and when I took it home I opened it and I was amazed at the size and the look. It was great! After I installed the software, I loaded all my CDs and MP3s to one disc and I loved it. The BASS IS AWSOME AS WELL!!! I recommend you get this MD if you want a MD.

If you're looking for a first MiniDisk player, this is the one to get. With Net MD so's you can drag-n-drop your files, and an insanely fast transfer time, I was impressed.
In addition, you don't need a fast computer for this MD to work -- I have Windows 98 and my player works excellently.
Also, it's one of the more inexpensive players, small, easy to work with...
What are you waiting for?
You need this MiniDisk player like you need food!
The actual device itself is great once u get home u have evrything u need in the rather large box. Except minidiscs. But the program itself (jukebox ver 2.2) doesnt like my wma files one bit and locks my computer up when i try "import all"
The CD to mini disc software is great. The MP3 to minidisc software is not. It limits the number of times you can transfer a song. Crazy Sony set an arbitrary number of times (3) that you can record an MP3 onto different minidiscs. That's just dumb. Other than that, and the fact that MD is dead and you have to buy blank discs online unless you live next to a major, MAJOR music retailer. Definately worth it for the minor shortcomings I found.

Nice portable music device. It is very convenient and compact. I commute to work with my md player in my pocket, and I will have 3 or 4 cds recorded on 1 md. I see other commuters carrying bulky portable cd players and cds in their hand, and I smile to myself.
I bought mine 2 months ago and I am still using the same, single battery, amazing!
The sound quality is good enough to me.

Awsome MD player, great for active people that enjoy listening to music while they exersise. The batttery life is increadable, the chargable battery will last you for a long time. With only one duracel batery it will last you for months with normal listening.JUST ONE BATTERY!!!. Easy to install and put the music on your minidiscs.
A great buy! I got one for each of my 4 children. 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 that are the shock & water resistant model (a little more expensive but better suited for the younger ones). My girls love the fact that they can store so many songs in one little disk (about 35 songs) They have had it since Christmas (I am writing this on 3/4/03) and they have not used their CD players since. The device itself is very easy to use. The software needs improvements. Every time I try to use a certain feature (the import tab), Windows XP closes OpenMG Jukebox, I have gotten around the problem, but others may not be able to do this unless they know their computers well enough. Because of this problem I have to do the downloading for the younger girls, which I consider to be a small inconvenience. Overall a great buy!!

outperformed all the other md recorders i own(all sony's) the editing software is amazing and the usb connection makes recording and disc organization so easy. I love the new "group" feature for grouping songs by catagory. this machine cost less than the other recorders and does 2x as much. i'm in love!

Very difficult to transfer music from PC to Mini Disc. Still cannot get it going no matter how many times we follow directions step - by - step CAREFULLY!
i think that it is a great idea, it makes life very simple, no more messing w/ CD's all you have to do is plug it in the back of your computer and donload. i like it ALOT.
