Pros: Packed With Features, Easy To Use Cons: Motor Can Be Quite Loud
INTRO
VCR's have become extremely cheap over the last few years thanks to the astronomical success of the DVD player, which is wonderful news for us consumers. You can now get wonderful VCR's packed with features for next to...
Pros: Good remote. Coax and line outputs. Good price. Cons: Motor is loud. Picture is average at best.
I bought the SLV-N55 to replace one of two older VCRs that had died. It's been several years since I bought a VCR, so I figured that I'd be able to get a pretty good unit at a reasonable price.
Pros: Great picture quality. Cons: Is that the tape rewinding or am I on the freeway at rush-hour?
Even in this world of TiVo and DVD, you still needed a good inexpensive VCR to record all those lame TV shows they call prime time. Just in case something decent shows up on cable, it's nice to watch it at leisure.
Pros: Proven Sony track record, abundant features. Cons: In five years, people won't care about VHS
Overall, this VCR has a great price, considering the amount of features. While it isn't a top of the line Sony product, I liked it. It rewinds tapes within a minute, has commercial skip, full onscreen programming options, a sleek design, and an easy to...
Pros: Good features and easy to use. Cons: Poor picture quality.
This VCR has a nice set of features for the price. The auto clock set feature worked flawlessly and is useful for setting precise start and end record times. The auto channel tuning feature saves time programming and worked flawlessly on our cable...
Pros: High speed rewind Cons: Does not record LP mode, playback "rolls" the picture
I got 10 years use out of my first VCR and replaced it with a Philips/Magnavox. It only lasted 2 years so I thought I would buy based on reputation and got this Sony unit. Big Mistake.
I can only site one decent feature - the extremely fast...
In an era where VHS is giving way to DVD, VCRs just continue to fall in price. I still can't believe I paid just $81.00 for 4-Head VHS Stereo VCR with the Sony nameplate.
I bought this model as a "second" VCR and it became part of the...
Very happy with this basic workhorse by sonyslvn55 ,Apr 26 '04
Pros: Cheap. Sony. good picture. fast rewind. Cons: Not perfect.
I felt obligated to write this review since I relied so heavily on these reviews when selecting this model. I wasn't disappointed.
This is a basic model, nothing fancy, but it works just fine. I connected it to a Sony TV. So compatibility was perfect.
I had a little difficulty with set up, getting the cable channel synchronized to the VCR and called the Sony 800 number and they helped me solve the problem in a few minutes. Very polite and efficient. I think the call was routed to India. I feared a hassle, but got pleasant surprise.
The fast rewind is great, and the sound is not really all that loud in my opinion.
The "commercial skip" is over-rated, it's just a 30 sec fast forward during playback. But, no big deal.
Picture is good, even during slow and fast play.
You can't use the clock on the VCR when it's recording, but that's not unusual for VCRs.
