Pros: Low price, 6x100watt @.09%THD, component video switching, fairly easy to set up Cons: Haven't found any yet
I looked high and low for a DTS receiver for my home theater that was affordable enough that my wife wouldn't kill me and had the features and quality I was looking for. A word of advice... Yahoo! There are a lot of great stores with excellent prices...

Pros: DTS, Component video switching, Powerful Cons: None
This receiver is terrific! I searched high and low for a replacement for my 10 year old Sony that had only a very early version of surround sound processing.
This unit has big power and big features for the money- including a great on-screen...

Pros: Price for the great features Cons: Doesn't have a 2-way remote. isn't THX certified. no A B speaker selection
I just bought my new Sony today, so i haven't had much time to play with it. I had a Sony str-de825, but I had to part with it. The DB1070 is already a great purchase on my part. It shares parts from the top end ES models, so is got great quality....

Surprisingly Good Processor, Weak Amps
by twox6spds ,Dec 06 '03
Pros: Musicality, features, decoder, set up. Cons: Weak amplifier section.
I've had a Sony STDB 1070 for about 2 years now. No problems - this is a solid high quality receiver. Doesn't do THX, but DTS is terrific. Although rated at 100 watts x 6 channels, I don't believe it. The one I have puts out much less than 100 wpc. I now use it as a processor, hooked up to 3 Onkyo M282 2 channel x 120 watts amps from the Sony's preouts. Sound is surprisingly excellent for both music and home theater, much, much better than it sounded using the onboard Sony amp. The bass management and set up features are really terrific for a receiver of this price. I really like this unit, more as a processor than a receiver. Use it with outboard amplifier(s) and you will really get the most out of this excellent Sony.
