SOUTH of the BORDER Forcast; "Chili Today, Hot Tamale" Stop Here in any Weather

by popsrocks popsrocks is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Hotels & Travel, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Mar 16 '04
Pros: A good stop to break up the monotony of driving.
Cons: It's the cheesiest of any place in the USA, but ya gotta smile.
If you have ever passed through the Carolinas on interstate 95 then you know of this place that borders the two states. The roadside billboards are posted over a hundred miles from the destination and the closer you get to South of the Border, the more ...

South of the Border of North and South Carolina: Come Meet Pedro

by jo.com Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, May 16 '03
Pros: A unique, tacky, plastic vision.
Cons: Tacky and plastic.
If you have never been to South of the Border you can’t miss it because you’ll be inundated with signs for miles and miles – 120 signs on I-95- telling you to go here.

The King of All Roadside America!!!!

by hickry-hawkins , Nov 29 '05
Pros: Kitschy gifts and neon sombreros everywhere! What else do you need?
Cons: Pedro rolls the streets up at 9
Right off I-95, where North Caroline meets her Southern sister state stands the crappiest, shoddiest, yet most beautiful tourist trap in all of the world! It's also the largest. You'll see the teasing, tantalizing signs advertising it all the way from ...

If you want to waste some money, stop here

by ziggybrunosmom , Aug 04 '08
Pros: None that I can think of unless you just want a good laugh!
Cons: Expensive, dirty, stinky, rundown; need I say more?
I now live in South Carolina, but I grew up in New York. For most of my childhood and teen years, my family has driven down Interstate 95 to Florida. "South of the Border" was always considered our "halfway point" even though we never actually ...

Pedro's...our annual must-stop on I-95 to Myrtle Beach

by brad1967 , Jun 16 '03
Pros: Very cool! The embodiment of the great American highway vacation stop!
Cons: None really. It is what it is. Tacky but a fun, must-stop on I-95.
South of the Border is GREAT. Yes, it's tacky. Yes, it's neon-lit, crowded, full of tourists, camp ...

Best thing is the billboards
by jlb87 ,Apr 24 '05
Pros: the billboards, the rearing horse statues
Cons: not clean, poor restrooms, lousy shops
South of The Border used to be kind of cute from what I understand, but now it's a broken down depressing place. Local "ricer" teens hang out there weekend afternoons..half of the place looks closed. But hey if you want some fireworks or a cheap toy then this is your stop! But not if you're looking to empty your bladder. Last time I was there the stinch was so bad coming from the restroom I couldn't stand to be within some 20 feet of the doors. Needless to say..I held it.

Stop at South of the Border once just to see for yourself if you're passing by, but I doubt you'll want to go back. But enjoy the cheesy billboards, they're at least something to look at driving down the interstate.
